A Win Before Some Losses
Fun Mothers Day walk off win. They kept trying to give that game away but Schmitt took care of business to give himself a batting average this year.
Lots of men down. Medic! Let’s see how they cobble this together with the Dodgers coming in to eat.
Slush said in Chron that RF Ollie Brown threw out 3 Mets in game at Stick May 1966. Kranepool and Lewis at 2b and Cleon Jones at the plate.
I had forgotten all about Ollie Brown. You rarely ever see stats like that now.
Game was at Shea May 14 and Mets beat SF 11-4. Ron Hunt was Mets leadoff hitter.
Looks like the Giants were hammered in that game, wasn’t Bobby Bolin’s day
I’m jazzed about all these guys from Sac. Let’s see ’em in action. Even if they lose like the guys on the IL, so what? It’ll be a different kind of losing. But, they might grow into the roles. Give me more Ramos…
By hook or by crook get the young guys in.
As seen on The Athletic:
“Everybody doesn’t like something, but nobody doesn’t like Jung Hoo Lee”
Unlike Grant, I do root for the Giants, in part because it’s a passive aggressive way to root against the Bitterati that blames Farhan for not signing the free agents who don’t want to play here, signing the ones who do, especially to one year, with a one year player option contracts. If they’re good, they’ll leave, if not, we’re stuck with them, unless they can be traded to the A’s, Mariners, or Pirates. Goldilocks, thine name is Michael Conforto, and now you’re hamstrung.
Soler, Murphy, Ahmed, Snell? They’re all hurt, and they suck anyway. Now we’re stuck with the same players who couldn’t hit or catch the ball last year.
Sure, Ramos and Chapman had a couple of good games, but that was against the Reds. Wait until dark. The pitcher Farhan is to blame for not signing will dominate the hitters he drafted who are now replacing the free agents he did sign.
What about Yaz, Estrada, and Wade Jr.? What about the serviceable fringe players Farhan traded a bag of pot, a few thousand bucks, and the guy they traded the guy they traded for, that helped them make the playoffs in 2016 (that’s crappy grammar, but not a typo). Forget about them, they ain’t hitting Yamamoto either. I’m calling a no-hitter right now, and will be happy if Junior can eke out a walk to keep his on-base streak alive.
I’m a utilitarian fan. I’ll root for the Dodgers when they’re playing the other NL teams, and may even root for them in the World Series if they make it that far, especially if Bochy’s team is in it again. Because screw that guy, and screw the Bitterati who like him more than the Giants.
Come on, man. Write your own inane shit to post. Farhan is doing the bidding of Greggie and the real estate corporation. If the ownership group hasn’t figured out by now that if they want to sign a big name they have to overspend, they are glue-heads.
They aren’t. They are smart businessmen and women who use Farhan and 5 or 6 convenient excuses as to why they don;t get the big names.
I mean, really. Barry Bonds is the ONLY true superstar the team has ever signed in free agency. In the history of free agency.
Barry Zito was coming off an AS season to cap his 6+ yrs (w/ a CY) in OAK. $119 million total (actually paid) and back then? Huge FA signing. Not of a superstar, granted.
$$ offered by Giants wasn’t reason Ohtani Judge etc. including Yamamoto didn’t sign here. They had high end agreement w Correa that thankfully both sides walked away from, as Boras pivoted first to Mets and then finally back to Twins when Giants voiced legit concerns over physicals. And Correa hasn’t lived up to $$ as most usually don’t in first place. Nobody misses this guy.
Fully behind Z staying out of FA SS market that exploded year ago and overpaying for “big names.” Do Giants really need to go back to paying old guys 6-8 years from now? Isn’t this what they were trying to get out from under w BC?
Was gonna give Zito a nod, but yeah not quite superstar status, and he was dogshit. Until he wasn’t.
Maybe the spark we need to make Giants baseball interesting once again.
Ooops. Wrong blog.
Can they hit?
Dave can hit . . . the pipe.
Hicks has been Giants ace so far. Dogs got shut out yesterday at Petco minus Ohtani due to soreness in back. Dodgers SP Gavin Stone off to good start in second year up. Only 1 bad outing in last 5, ERA of 3.55 in 7 starts 38 innings.
Stix puttin’ the work in:

Do the prognosticators for MLB.com have a major case of disrespect against the Giants? Sure looks that way, as once again SF was ranked 23rd in the dire depths of depression in their questionable “power rankings”.
No respect. Of course we all know that the major media centers are located in Gotham and LaLaLand…and they cream their shorts over Souper-Stars. Yeah, that spelling is intended. Why not? I have no respect for those weenies with their wet-dreams over the highly talented few. Baseball is a team game, where each individual has a role to play. When a squad gets an injection of go-juice, long before the dog-daze of summer, that team may jell…actually become a team more than a gaggle of underperforming individuals.
Drama? The Cincinnati series brought that out in spades. Injury piling upon injury. Yet they took the series vs a tough Reds team by something which did not characterize the April iteration…or even the first third of May. So they are currently ranked behind the Dagos, the Friars and the Reds…all of whom they have to date achieved series victories. When your Ace seems to be running on fumes and the Deuce injured and just now in the recovering state, the rotation has been stretched like bubble-gum that went with those ’57 Topps baseball cards for which I spent my gopher trapping money.
Pretty not too bad investment in hindsight. Had three #1 Ted Williams cards and sold one of them to a kid and his doting LaLaLand suburban mom for a hundred bucks back in ’88. Not a bad return on a one-cent investment (at the time I just wanted the card and at age 12 the word “investment” meant virtually nada). So with good three inning hurler Keaton Winn not able to stretch his starts and a couple of free-agent afterthoughts being sold and traded; Los Gigantes brought up Mason Black…who was having one helluva Sactown season in hitter-happy PCL contests. One issue I have with AAA baseball is their proclivity to not allow precious potential ML starters to stretch out beyond 4-5 innings. Black needs that in order to make it in The Show. He does seem to have the talent, if you take the time to check out his MiL record.
No. Didn’t read the tea-leaves or heed the words of a professional “seer”. First note to Flav of the season I suggested that what the “old and tired…uninspiring” lineup needed was a spark plug or two..namely Ramos and Schmitt. Player development folks realized that young Heliot had plenty of talent, but radically needed a bit of seasoning. Hell, back in the 50’s and early Sixties, five years in the pipeline before even being considered for The Show was steady-state reception. Habitually on almost a daily basis, being a farm-raised child and farm-town kid…I do keep regular notice of what’s going down on the farm. Ramos was leading the charge, while Schmitty, while having diddly for a B.A., was the #1 RBI producer in the entire Giants system.
So perhaps those injuries do have a bit of a silver-lining. Those two got a chance to show their stuff. Offensively, Ramos has arrived and may well be battling in the Two-Hole before August. But what really caught my eye was the fact that he threw out TWO Reds baserunners. Shades of Carl Furillo and a handful of other strong-armed bullet bandits nailing speedy, aggressive runners attempting to stretch singles into doubles…that has been a key feature of the successes Cincinnati has had…to date. Schmitty is not your classical slugger, but does get his share of doubles. Hard bat.
That ground-rule double he slammed yesterday to do the 10th inning walkoff dance was spring-tonic for a tired team.
So who may have awakened from his offensive slumber by the appearance of the youth-brigade? Non other than Matt Chapman with his first inning Saturday Salami versus a temporarily incapacitated but otherwise pretty decent Cincinnati starter. Engines do not run well without decent sparkplugs. No pizzazz was the story for the first six weeks of the season. Those injuries signal plenty of yo-yo performances by the Giants…but now there is a gleam in their eyes. No same old, same old.
Facing the LaBumbos, with their Googenheimedly cast of superstars…impressing the hell out of the so-called “sportswriters”…many of whom never played beyond Little League coached by their dad or a neighbor daddy. So who knows how these next three games will turn out. If Webb was up to his personal standards and his cohort was ready for this series, I’d say the Gints would have at least a fighting chance. But we are looking at a long season and as most of the injured have a bone in their teeth…some of those professional prognosticators may have to reassess their predictions regarding a team which may have finally begun to jell, even with several of their best players out of action…over this now past weekend.
At least we can agree that the early season blues…the boredom and disgust…may be engaging a higher gear. If Wisely and Matos show some stuff at the plate, there may be a few among the “old and tired” to be relocated. Currently on the I.L., Slater appears to be struggling and bewildered…perhaps beyond his “best by” date. Key injury to a Boston outfielder and Yaz may find a familiar home. Wilmer has been whiffing at a lot of bad pitches and does not seem to have that magic rabbit in his hat any more. Any or all of the above candy-dates may be wearing different uniforms even before the Deadline. There may be a slight oversupply of starters. Many would be contenders will be suffering hunger pangs for rotation hands with a bit of an edge. Not at the level of Seattle’s G.M., Zaidi may have some interested phone calls by or before the end of July. Should Schmitt and Ramos live up to their fast start on recall, one more solid RiBI man, a daily doubles delight, may be the target of the Tradewinds.
So after a few weeks of agony, there might just be a whiff of hope. Go Giants.
Stix always brings it.
As of now I highly doubt I’ll be spending any of my gopher trapping money at Citifield when the Giants visit in about 10 days…
yeah he’s amazing. Ted Williams baseball cards, wow.
I see Brett Auerbach got promoted to Sac. C, 2B, 3B, and something of a base stealer. Rather him than Reetz if the need arises again, I think.
Hopefully Bailey is over virus soon and can return taking over C duties as much as possible. Only Betts and Ohtani run much but Dogs have top offense in NL, like Phils only little better. They are #1 NL for runs hits doubles HRs BBs BA and all 3 slash lines w team OPS of .784.
They’ve also won 8 of 10 in May w 51-18 run differential, and swept ATL at Latrine before losing 2 of 3 to Padres over weekend.
Of course the Giants don’t go with the obvious Outfield of Ramos,Matos (a true CF)and Yaz
Instead Wisely a 2B starts in CF..Screw the Right/Left hitting situation which is totally overrated!
Looks like Bailey is back in atleast with a better chance to throw out a runner then Sabol ever would..
May 13 1923 born day of pianist “Red” Garland in Dallas Tx who passed April 23 1984. Played with Charlie Parker in 1953 on Storyville LP, then w Miles Davis great quintet later in 50s that included Coltrane, w whom he played on other recordings they both led. Really enjoyed his sound playing behind others and on his own dates for Prestige.
Beautiful solo and comping w Miles on great tune “Four.”
Pavs tweet a few minutes ago:
“Patrick Bailey will meet with team doctor later, Giants are trying to figure out if it’s really just a cold or if it’s related to concussion. Melvin said they’re going to be very careful with it.”
Baggs says Reetz is back.
Not good news.
Melvin did say today that Ramos will play every day and that Matos will play a lot in CF.
Just not today. And well, tomorrow never knows. One of their more vaguely interesting songs. Buck the Featles!!!

‘And sometimes you wear L’Air du Temps…but not today.’
That character was back in the news today.
“Ich bin ein Berliner” has nothing to worry about…
And now after taking my advice lol 😂 Melvin is starting Matos in CF over Wisely ( you think) but of course Bailey now not starting so his viral infection still not good as is my Viral venom levels go up as well watching Sabol&Reetz crackers try to throw out Doghair runners..
Betts has 8 steals Ohtani 9. Teoscar Hernandez 3 M Rojas 2. They don’t run much.
Reetz is a third cousin to good old “Krispy Kratz”…
Since the team is hurt and can’t hit for shit, they’ll sweep the Dogs. Fuck ’em. Fuck ’em sideways.
My daughter bought us all (me, Kathy, and G all have birthdays within 25 days) tix for the Webb start Wednesday, so that’s cool. Would be nice to get the sweep.
Giants baseball, and Beatles on the blog today. Very cool.
Giants pitchers have to not walk a bunch of Dodgers. Easier said than done, but some teams are so afraid of the Dodgers’ lineup they walk a bunch of and it’s just over. I watched a team walk four Dodgers in a row this season. Seemed cowardly to me. Make the Dodgers earn it with hits.
Yeah you don’t need to walk are steal when u can just hit bombs 💣
Betts raised one finger to remind us how many hits he had in the playoffs last year.
I think he had zero hits.
There you go. Hicks gets ever reliable ground ball to Chapman, inning over.
Roberts could do the same for W/S championships..
If u can even call a pandemic a championship..
Hello Mr. Matos.
oh man! Welcome to the LU Matos!
Andale pues! Wow what a way to get going for Matos!
MATOS BOMBS AWAY!!! Nice 1st hit this year!
3-1 thank god the Giants changed their minds and sat Wisely..
Matos looked great in spring training. Ramos is looking pretty good in SF too. Great to see.
whoosh Lux goes down. Hicks looks great but pitch count might get him.
Credit to Schmitt on throw after spearing that one hop rocket. I don’t think Ahmed throws guys out from grass.
Schmitt sure looks like a ball player. A quick inning would be nice,
There goes that.
Yaz, what a catch.
best RF in our park ever.
Damn, Yaz!!!
Don’t look now but team in all MLB on longest current winning streak is…Colorado Rockies w 4. They are leading Padres 5-1 tonight in 5th at Petco. Blog went ballistic when Giants lost getaway game. Rox ain’t gonna lose 120 more games.
Full layout grab by Yaz!
Yaz!! Flashing the Leather super catch! You can Betts on it!
Just what we can’t do it give shit away.
kooks like we are done scoring
Moises Alou played at Canada College in Redwood City.
Sabol ain’t able.
He’s certainly seeing more than his share of dirtballs.
Fuck. 2 unearned.
Wilbur looking ready for the glue factory.
Sad. Giants best hitter last year too. Can’t get untracked 2024.
Ramos with the 2 out RBI.
Fizzy Ramos!!
Vamos Ramos! Ends Yamamoto night
Ramos Fizz delivers !!
4-3 knocking in Chapman and knocking out Yamamoto…
pffffft
#9 guys in order killing Giants.
Get that run back, Giants.
I’m sure he’s lead the Giants in home runs.
Schmitt is forever 0-2
Gonna keep seeing steady diet of sliders until he pick up what’s hittable and what isn’t. That game ending knock yesterday is still his only hit.
Still can’t believe they threw him a fastball.
Giants hitters don’t need the extra help from this terrible umpire!
Wow. Traquillo looking good. End this game!
yeah great inning
Got the Greg Maddox strike zone today.
Fuck Fitzgerald.
Think he’ll be more comfortable in warmer weather in Sac.
Agree 100%.
Wow. Just wow.
DFA this idiot ASAP.
Ok Fitzretard back to Sac tomorrow you moron!!!
Tell us how you really feel, AK!
Need a Matos bomb.
“Ich bin ein retard”.
They got to get rid of Fitzgerald. He’s a walking disaster.
Genau …
Ja
Oh god. It’s the bad twin.
Yep.
Yeahyouright
Grandson would’ve had it.
Matos needs to take about 10,000 fungo flies and drives in the OF…
Matos needs to take about 10,000 fungo flies and drives in the OF…
I know it’s Freeman, but it was a L-L matchup and Rogers wanted no part of it, and now they’re down 2.
Wisely? Now?
Matos better get rid of the blue glove if he wants to stay a Giant!!!
Fuck that. Sloppy loss. FUCK!
So fucking frustrating.
Giants youngsters really need polishing, they are pretty rough in certain areas…
Of all the rule changes, the ghost runner is the one I hate most. It was created iirc for Covid reasons, no reason to have it now. It’s not real baseball. The sport is losing me. Well 60 something years is a helluva long run…
agreed
Tough way to lose.
Fuck Fitzgerald! I didn’t like him much before and I sure don’t like him much now.
Due for they’re usual DP might as well to end it!!
Fucking LA continues to Own the Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupid blunder by Fitz, but, man, what are first base coaches even there for? What do they even do? What are they “coaching”?
