Wiped Out
Ever since the Monday night loss, last night seem inevitable. I even told the butcher I thought we would lose 10-2. Of course there’s no way to prove that short of me bringing the butcher to the Flap to confirm. But I did say that.
The real bad news here is that our shittiest players are also our healthiest players. Why does it always happen that way?
LA rolling out an opener tonight. They don’t care. They know they can beat us any number of ways with very little effort.
Yeah, it’s a sad situation this team is even worse than the 85 team and the only reason we won’t lose 100 is that the whole league sucks excepting for a few. At this point all the blame goes to the FO. I don’t see how any real changes happen with the ownership as is.
Bingo.
Ownership — essentially an anonymous group of rich dudes led by the scion of a right wing mutual fund billionaire, a scion who we see a little more often than the phantom John Fisher, and who let it publicly slip that as long as the organization “breaks even”, ownership is good. Funny, a mutual fund that only breaks even is a one-star Morningstar POS performer.
Giants — a real estate company with a laggard baseball division…
Baggarly in the Athletic today briefly endorses the change I think needs to happen–Matos in LF, Ramos in CF. Not ideal, but both offer a lot more at the plate than we’d see from Fitzfuckup or Wisely.
and Ramos has the stones to take charge of the OF. Matos exerted no control over their convergence on that dropped ball at the LCF wall last night. His timidity botched the play.
As Melvin told Baggs RF is harder than CF at the O so he’d rather leave Yaz there than CF. Let’s see if Webb can do better job of holding LA down tonight.
I think Yaz developed into the best defensive RF to play here. Thats where he belongs.
worth a try. Ramos hustling and playing hard. Hopefully Luciano gets some starts now that he’s up.
Keaton Winn — forearm tightness…
How can an OFer in the Giants system as long as Matos be so bad in the field? A caller into KNBR this morning said he was a Giants employee in player development in 2017-18 time frame. Sounded legit. He said at that time the Giants were known to having poor player development operations; minor league players came to him saying they didn’t know what they had to do, what they had to improve and work on consistently, to get to the big leagues. I believe it, and I have to believe that’s still the case. How else do we get minor leaguers up here that look like they are friggin’ clueless on how to perform, how to think situationally, etc.? When you observe what’s actually on the field, the “Giants Way” thing that Kruk spouts occasionally is a complete fabrication …
I think Neukom coined the phrase way back and even had a bunch of instructional and inspirational pamphlets printed up with The Giants Way as title. I’ll bet the only surviving copy is in Farhan’s office for him and his staff to page through occasionally for laughs.

Looks like young Baggs’s article may be behind a paywall. Sorry. I was able to read it all before they caught me, though.
That Evelyn Wood speed reading course really paid off, eh?
Yeah. Lots of practice reading.
Here:
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/67591-william-neukom-wants-things-done-the-giants-way
You read sci-fi? 3 Body Problem was really good. Even the Netflix series was good.
not much
iirc one of Neukom’s strategies was to acquire two somewhat similar players at once, if he could. Javvy Lopez came nearly simultaneously with another reliever who also did well for a while. Year before, 09, Freddie S and Garko showed up together. Like buying two similar start ups– chances are one will pan out. Of course, Beltran like exceptions abound.
About only bright spot last night was Rodriguez, 3 decent innings out of pen. Giants aren’t going anywhere without pitching, so if he can stick this will be boon to pen.
Saw that morning line favorite Muth is out of Preakness and Baffert to take him to NY. Maybe this opens shot for Flavien Prat’s horse to get Triple Crown W.
Juan Hernandez was to ride Muth, and he continues to dominate SoCal. Watched FDTV at Santa Anita and Churchill Downs…only 5-6 horses in lot of races at Santa Anita, sad.
Really disheartening to see what this team has become. And that is nothing but a bauble for the real estate/finance tycoons. NONE of them even give a shit about the team or how they do.
The A’s, last in payroll are 19-25.
Gints? 10th. 19-25.
Yeah we have had a bad run of injuries and injuries and weird injuries, but this operation looks very similar to what Fisher and Wolff did in their dismantling of a once-proud franchise. Work the numbers, play the revenue-sharing game, and rake in the filthy lucre.
The Giants look to be the Raiders of MLB. They will coax out of town fans to their cool stadium. One thing the Giants have over the Oklamento Athleticats.
Giants are the exact opposite of the A’s. Giants got their huge new development built with two big anchor tenants–the franchise and VISA HQ. That’s the Giants way.
Not in the way they run the bottom line for the product.
Really though, the A’s have drafted 2000 light years better than the Giants these past 25 years.
But as far as turning a blind eye to the product on the field, they both do that in spades. 2 more weeks of this and the crowds will be down to 8,000.
And I’m really not looking forward to being outnumbered by Dodger fans tonight.
Crazy what’s out there on the interwebs. Never seen that before. I guess the Stones had to dip their toes into psychedelia, but I always dug this song. As well as Rainbow. The album is a rollicking mess however.
historical perspective’s good. You know what they say: those who cannot remember the past are condemned to be fascist dupes.
One man’s fascist dupe is another man’s pretentious twit.
For a guy who brags about flouting rules you sure do like to pretend you’re a cop.
Now that’s some funny shit! How you made that connection I’ll never know in a million years. I’ve been called everything under the sun, but a cop? maybe James Dewar said it more appropriately.

give it up chuckles.
Give up what? Trying to make sense out of your tangentially opaque ramblings? Ok. ? Is it nice in that ivory tower?
That’s a lot of solecism for a short sentence. You’ve outdone yourself. But I hear you. You don’t understand.
I don’t care.
The four biggest acquisitions for the Giants this season were Snell, Soler, Lee, and Chapman. Things could have gone better with that group, obviously.
One thing I would do is NEVER deal with a FA who has Borass as his agent. Never again. Rodon, Correa, Snell, Harper, Bryant, Conforto come to mind. His clients tend to use the Giants to rehab their rep, I don’t think the guy is trustworthy and it’s always overpayment and under delivery. Rodon is the only one who performed for the Giants, but used them to leverage his next deal with the Yanks, then his arm blew out. Conforto was hurt a ton last year, he re-upped using his player option, because nobody else would touch him last offseason for more than that price. With Borass, the deals ar Heads I win, Tails you lose …
Don’t forget Robbie Ray. He and Cornonthe Cobb can hang out in the hot tub together as the season passes them by.
Heck, I didn’t know that. And, I didn’t know Chapman and JH Lee also were Borasses — they are. No wonder the Giants are screwed, friggin’ half the roster are Borasses. Only Lee looks like he’s going to potentially worth the coin and contract length…
Well, this is by design. The more this goes on, the more the team doesn’t want to commit big money to big players.
We know now why Winn seemed to lose his stuff in the 4th inning. Krukow noted how Winn lost his command of his pitches.
He couldn’t finish his pitches, and left pitches up, and very hittable.
Is there more news on his arm?
I haven’t seen any.
Giants sign Casali.
mlbtr says he’s been playing AAA ball for Iowa Cubs and hitting well after being released by Reds.
Well, sort of a known quantity. Reetz poteetz begone.
Yah Reetz back to Sac. Just hope Casali can settle down pitching staff, especially starters.
He was good behind Buster every third game in 21. Caught a bunch of shutouts. I remembered that and hit Google for a headline: five shutouts in a row–in April.
I was really looking forward to seeing Lee play and adjust to the MLB this season. When he was injured, he was still adjusting to MLB pitching . . . Or, as one sports site said, “Lee is batting .262 with two homers, eight RBIs and .641 OPS in 37 games as he adjusts to a new league, but has excelled in the field.”
So, now with him likely gone for the entire season, you have to be realistic and consider this all important factor – Lee wont be returning from injury to some mediocre South Korean league, but to the MLB (again), where it may take him FAR longer to adjust to MLB pitching . . . In other words, that’s a whole season of not playing baseball and he isn’t returning from injury to a “cushy” South Korean baseball league that he excelled in and is familiar with, but to the MLB, which he was just beginning to learn/familiarize himself with.
Worse, I doubt the fan base will be patient with him, as they will want to see an immediate payoff to the $113 million, 6 year contract he signed, particularly after already losing a year to injury. Having Boras as his agent, just makes this entire situation worse in my opinion.
Lee will be fine. This team has about 99 other problems bigger than Lee’s adjustment to the bigs.
The fan base? I remember the good old days when they counted asses in seats, and a game I went to was under 1,000 people. Something like 952. Like watching in the grand canyon.
Coulda been this one.

I doubt it . . . How’d you get there? Pan Am? United? Check the venue (Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium).

Good news, but Winn needs to check his mechanics and talk with coaches on his uber reliance on the Split.
He’s throwing over 50% Splits. That’s tough on the human wing.
Second arm issue this season, with elbow strain in late STraining.
Losing Lee is the biggest drag on this season there is. At least I got to see hi a couple weeks ago. Casali is our savior? At least he can catch the ball. Can’t remember his CS %age.
The standards around 24 Willie Mays Plaza are getting lower and lower.
Off to the game. Webbie need to bring it tonight.
BoMel should probably let him hit for himself…
Are you excited about it in any way? Can you smuggle in a baloney sandwich? How many beers you think you’ll have?
wrong atlanta game. . .

Just kidding you Chuck . . . Have a blast at the game and bring home a win!
Seriously Curt Casali ? this is the best they can do being the 9th Catcher?Upgrade over Reetz cracker for sure but since it’s a novelty position right now, why not bring “Krispy Kratz” back out of retirement..
Kat, I am amazed that Casali has fashioned a 10 year career. That being said, the Giants are lucky Casali was available, as he knows the organization from his previous stint with the club in 2021. Moreover, the GMen had little and no alternatives. Good defense, no offense type player (although, he apparently was raking .362/.489/.551/176 wRC+ with the Cubs Iowa minor league triple A club).
Exactly. Maybe snagging that near wild pitch is good omen
Nice ! Hopefully Chuck’s BP survives few more innings.
Dang it. Webb got 2 outs in 7 pitches, was ahead of 9 hitter Outman 0-2 and then walks him w top of order up next.
Webb got Betts, but flyball went to the wall.
Betts continues to amaze me. Listed at 5-9 180, 31 years old. Last 2 years combined he has 74 HRs and 80 doubles. Last year 96 BBs 107 Ks, this year 30/20.
Shocked that the Rockies have a 7 game win streak (w/3 coming against the Rangers and another 3 against the Padres – both contenders). Giants have yet to sniff a 3 game win streak. Let’s get it started tonight!
Yaz!!
Matos with the catch.
Wow.
Hella grab.
Awesome play.
wow. Just like that Matos says he can play CF just fine. Lucky he didn’t get hurt.
he looks fine running back to the dugout now. That section of BP fence is treacherous.
They need to look at that and maybe fix something…
Mr. RBI Ramos.
Hel yeah!
Yaha Ramos Rocket
Another head shake from Ohtani.
gotta love it
hell of a game so far
Who ya wit?
Wife and 2 of 3 kids.
tangential but interesting.

Matos with the insurance policy.
Steady diet of sliders to kids. Matos gets sinker elevated and whacks it. Great AB!
Big insurance run let’s close this shit out Doval!
Give ‘em the number 1 heater Ricky!!!
Let’s get nasty, Rick.
Doval making me nervous…
Phew, got ‘er done.
Nice game, Chuck brought the sweep buster…
Win of the year.
Victory!
Welcome back Casali.
Great game, Giants.
Winner Winner Chucky Dinner!!
Damm Doval always has to make the blood pressure go up!!
The Rogers Bros. make my BP go up…
Hitting of Matos and Ramos making me not miss Slater. Maybe Matos is better going back than going sideways. Casali looks like he’s able to settle down the pitching situation…
Torture, me encanta.
clutch hitting, great pitching and D behind it. 2 run HR from Yaz.
Way to bring home the win, Unca. Looked like a fun game to be at.
Always fun sending whining bitch Dodgers fans home with a loss between their legs..
They are annoying As Fuck ! This was definitely a Must Win game! Happy for Unca makes the ride home much better!
Give Webb credit for gutting out 6 after rough start.
After top 3 in order, rest of Dogs 1-21, single by Smith. Muncy and others all 0 fers.
Giants w only 2 XBHs of night., w help from Matos. 7 hits for LA all singles.
Amazing what happens when you play defense and don’t let the ball get past you. Casali had the awesome 23 mph grounder to raise his BA to 1.000.
He’s our good luck charm.
Definitely a fun game, and the Dodger fans weren’t especially terrible. But it was a pretty small subdued crowd for a Dodger game. The Matos catch was flat insane. He covered a lot of ground to get there.
Tyler and Camilo were torturous. Jelly Man Kelly was solid. 2-0 this year!
