A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Properly Walloped

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 2, 2024

Not much to say about that one. They just have better players. And goddamn, they have players with presence don’t they? It’s not just how big and strong Judge, Soto and Stanton look although that’s probably part of it. Dare I say it’s the uniforms? Regardless, our runs were produced by Wisely and Schmitt, two dudes who have no presence whatsoever.

I am going to the game today. I’ll give Snell the once-over and report back. Gonna pour one out for my daughter’s grandpa today. He was the biggest Yankee fan there ever was and I watched a lot of baseball games with him. His death last December was one of several my family has had to endure the last 8 months. This was his obit if you care to read more about him.

Fine obit Flav thanks for sharing and sorry for your loss. RIP to Mr. Waltuch.

Talent gap sure thing when you start 5 rookies including 1 in the 4th game of his ML career. But the offense that scored 22 in 3 games off Pirates and 19 more in 3 vs. Mets has scored 7 runs in last 4 games. Expect some changes today but it is good to see Schmitt do some damage.

More concerned about SPs though. Second game in a row where the starter put team in an early hole, eventually being followed by pen meltdown that put game further out of reach. Props to Webb for 4 shut down innings and going 7 to help save pen ahead of Snell start today and TBD for tomorrow vs. DBax, but too much damage done on his watch.

Wasn’t that long ago Giants beat Phils here 1-0 while taking 2 of 3. Phils have one more L than Yanks do, same amount of Ws, and have scored 17 more runs in one fewer game than Yankees with near identical +100 run differential. The gap can be overcome.

thanks for sharing what a life. Amazing people like him built this country and many like your former father in law came here as children and appreciated our country that much more. We played well against probably a pretty good team in the Phillies after getting swept in four games in Philly and playing an obviously better team in the Yankees and probably would have the same fate in NY. Let’s get one today.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 2, 2024 at 11:05 am

LHP going today and Soler this season has OPS of .727 against them, 100 points higher than what he’s doing vs. RHP. Also he has 6 HRs on season–beside Chapman the other 7 hitters in lineup have 8 combined. Day off for Bailey Brooks and Yaz, plus Estrada has bad thumb.

Ramos can fire higher for a bang bang throw em out, but he often uses that low accurate fastball multi bouncer to get the ball back to the IF on hold em plays. Nicaraguan father of a kid on our Oakland LL team one year tried to teach that running wind up OF throw. Most of the kids couldn’t understand why throwing at the ground made sense.

Was following along on cbs site, and cutter and fastball/sinker were still at high velo, 99 and up. Really surprised how hard he was hit, by Soto Stanton and Volpe. Other than bad location dunno what’s wrong with him. Yanks knew what was coming maybe?

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 2, 2024 at 9:38 pm

MCC site in column by Steven Kennedy “Doval devolved in 9th” shows the ball Volpe lined for double was cutter inside and off the (box zone of) plate. Cutter to Soto for monster HR was belt high in middle of plate. Sinker to Torres who led off with single down and inside at edge of strike zone.

  68. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 2, 2024 at 9:09 pm

Just read story that said the first place AL West Mariners, now 34-27, fired “offensive coordinator and bench coach Brant Brown (former dodgers hitting coach 2020-22) on Friday.”

Further, “Director of hitting strategy Jarret DeHart and assistant hitting coach Tommy Joseph will expand on their roles with the hitters.” Turns out the M’s per SI story also on MLBTR, “…have one of the league’s worst offenses. They entered Friday with the second fewest runs (211 or 3.6 per game). They lead in strikeouts and rank 28th in batting average, 25th in slugging percentage and 28th in OPS.”

Wow, I though Kap had big coaching staff but these positions I guess reflect new analytical era. So howinell is a team that hits that bad in first place ahead of defending champ Texas Rangers, let alone 6th best record in AL? Only 3 teams in AL have allowed fewer runs.

Memo to Giants–pitching (and D) wins.
