Cain will turn 40 in October.

Drafted age 17 in 2002. 2003 he was in A ball, 2004 he threw 158 innings btw A+ and AA. Next year 26 starts 145 innings AAA and 7 for SF 46 more innings. so he went from 158 to 190 innings in one big leap and by 2006 he was full time SP throwing 190-200 innings and making 30 starts a season for next 7years.

Different era different approach these days.

Thanks to Loo for putting all the stats together!

By far Lincecum was the “ Freak”king of SF..Timmy was the “Billy the Kid” gunslinger of his day.You could not miss one of his starts in his prime years, he was that dominant, with electric stuff, his personality was off the charts dressing up like managers/players, like that old school Giants jersey Black Baron with the Cub on it real rad jersey btw coming up in of June.

Cain much more reserved ,Yeah “The Horse” built much larger in stature but boring to get behind maybe it’s the lack of CY’s are being Cained to often? The perfect game was his only claim to fame for me otherwise it’s all Timmy all the time..

2022 at age 20 Harrison made 25 starts btw A+ and AA for total of 113 innings.

2023 btw Sac and SF he only pitched 101 innings in 27 starts partially because of hamstring injury iirc.

This season 14 starts/77 innings. I’ve read Z thinks based on studies it’s prudent to only upgrade SPs about 10% from one year to next. So you have to wonder how many more starts and innings he has left, even if innings total got to say 125.

Contrast is just so stark compared to what Cain was doing 20 years earlier, throwing 190 total innings in 2005 before he turned 21 that October.

fwiw quick addendum to RCs game last night when Matos went off for 2 doubles and HR driving in 6 in Reno: SP Carson Seymour for Cats had 6 shutout innings in 17-3 W.

The Timmy playoff game vs ATL was just flat incredible. 15 K’s iirc. One or two hits.

Magnificent game. Early the next season Atl laid off the splitter and got to him.

Part of the narrative of Lincecum and Cain is that by time Giants finally got to 3/5 status, cracks began to show for both. Lincecum’s last good season was 2011 though he did have couple good 2012 postseason outings in relief (vs. Reds and WS vs. Tigers). Cain’s was 2012 where he was still going well into postseason.

Happens to everyone but it was sad to watch what happened to both at end of careers.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2024 at 11:37 am

Hip trouble for Timmy, bone chips in the elbow for Cain. I remember Lincecum pitching a beautiful shutout vs Oakland in 2011. Something like 143 pitches. His no hitters were strange aberrations. Recently called up Panik handled the final out in the 2014 no hit game.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2024 at 11:51 am

May 21, 3 hitter but I was wrong– only 133 pitches.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2024 at 11:38 am

And yeah Cain’s 2010 PS era was something to savor.

  11. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2024 at 10:49 am

Lincecum’s last year of college 2006 at UW he pitched 125 innings, then when Giants drafted and signed him he threw 31 more for them in minors.

By 2007 he opened year at Fresno AAA but after only 31 innings he was promoted and threw 146 for SF before being shut down in September by Sabes. 2008 he was full time starter going 227 innings and onto greatness.

Been to many Reno Aces games in the past it’s a real nice park the “Mini Oracle “all brick look with a railroad track beyond LF pretty cool 😎 and downtown a few nostalgic bars nearby Lincoln Penny I believe?and a real authentic Basque restaurant&Bar with killer food& their signature drink a Pihncah (sp)..

Can’t take much stock with games played in Aces park as everygame is Coors field Pat your stats like the 17 runs scored by Rivercats, but it’s good to see Matos swinging better, Ahmed a couple hits, same with Bishop,McCray in CF hmmm? Sabol a bomb, think they pounded out 24 hits? Seymour SP was sharp.Wonder if the new pitcher called up Hayden Birdsong will pitch in Reno? Are save him and his era somewhere to pitch first..

Bishop is actually playing? I thought Hunter was in witness protection.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 13, 2024 at 11:33 am

Well he wasn’t in the field Bishop was the DH going 2-4 run scored 2 walksHell the team had 15 walks which tells u how bad the Aces pitchers were.Rivercats have all these dudes including McCray a speed burner ( yes a Giant that can steal incredible)who had a double stole a base, looking for playing time.Hell Villar is at first now in his farewell tour with the Giants..

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 13, 2024 at 12:56 pm

I really thought Villar had a shot at being a good player.

Watch him go to another organization and turn into a MLB player…

My oldest daughter had tix to Cain’s perfecto and traded out of going at the last minute.

Real cool feat turned in by AA Richmond Squirrel Pitcher Eric Silva recently, who threw an immaculate inning striking out 3 straight batters on 9 pitches!

Looking at Webb’s numbers, was he hurt his whole minor league career? I mean except for the 80 game suspension? He was drafted in 2014 and didn’t reach 100 innings until 2018.

    Then the 2019 suspension.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 13, 2024 at 6:34 pm

Yes he was Chuck. He got his head stuck in a vise for several months. Still hasn’t fully recovered…

A few crazy plays that were close. Forgot about Cabrera’s couple decent catches in LF.

Giants drafted Villar in 2018 and he’s hit at every minor league level since. did OK for Giants in 2022 (9 HRs 180 ABs .450 slugging) after good season in Sac where had OPS over 1.000 and .500 slugging.

Been hot lately for RCs: 21-54 with 6 HRs 4 doubles, as many BBs (11) as Ks. .800 OPS in Sac, little off what he did last year there at .870. 27 years old.

Still one of my fav 5-minute videos, the 27 outs of 2010 WS game 5, music by Coldplay. I still get little chills sometimes watching this. As even Joe Buck had to admit, “So good”…

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on June 13, 2024 at 7:19 pm

It always amazes me how fast Wilson got the final three outs, which totally went against his usual way of closing games most of the season.

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 13, 2024 at 7:52 pm

Timmy had paralyzed the TX hitters, screwed them into the ground for 8 innings. They were so done by the 9th, Wilson just lowered the hammer and put ’em out of their misery. What a performance.
