The Dream is Dead
My dream of us being .500 by just after sunset on Flag Day is over. What to dream of next? I’d like to dream of not being last in SB’s by a country mile but I fear that dream is dead, too. How bout a game with 2 or more bombs? Today seems like a good day to show off whatever power we’ve got in there…..
I’ve been done with Klay for a while and was already hoping the Warriors wouldn’t resign him. But his behavior yesterday was absurd. What kind of man sends a passive aggressive message like unfollowing anything that has to do with your team and deleting pictures of you and your mates winning championships? Total pussy move.
Whoa, story in Chron of woman mauled to death by black bear in Downieville. Great pics of “town” and man w family fishing in N. Yuba R. off Hwy 49. Could have been my family from 60s, where we had relatives we visited in summer. At time population was listed at 325 no stoplights. Nearest town was Sierra City, 11 miles away.
Every afternoon we’d walk downhill (room for only 1 car at time) into what passed for downtown to get daily morning Chron, including the one w Marichal/Roseboro incident.
2 things I don’t do: camp in remote places or swim in deep ocean. That’s where bears and sharks live. Fuck that.
I have done a lot of camping, but ALWAYS have a gun (usually a .45 glock). Agree about swimming in the ocean. I use to surf and snorkle in Hawaii, etc. . . . No longer, particularly California waters near Monterey, Santa Cruz, etc..
Ironically, I feel totally safe with sharks while SCUBA diving (because I can see everything going on around me).
when I was young, the infamous red triangle had one side running from Monterey to Davenport, excluding Monterey Bay (and Santa Cruz). Now most renderings of the triangle are larger; they include the bay.
My younger son’s enthusiasm for surfing waned after a great white attacked a kayak just on the other side of the kelp bed from us, on the east side of town. Tv news stories that night didn’t help.
Willie, I just saw this video of a 20 man robbery of a Sunnyvale jewelry store (El Camino Real). What the hell is happening to my home town??? This occurred Wednesday – any other news about the rest of this gang being arrested?
https://abc7news.com/post/video-shows-20-smash-grab-suspects-ransack-png/14951107/
I noticed that most of the names seem Tongan, which surprised me.
From the names arrested, I didn’t know they were Tongan, but thought they were some sort of Hawaiian, Samoan or Polynesian (I think that is Tongan?). My bad, but I assumed they were all black.
Well the Tongans live out of town for the most part, too. I met some of that community when I hired in-home caregivers for my father years back. Mob robberies of jewelry stores and high end clothing stores are common all over the Bay Area. Apple stores, also. The racial compositions of the mobs will vary.
Awful–this used to happen in Chinese business center off Wolfe Rd past Homestead. I was in Sunnyvale Friday to grab lunch with mentor coaching buddy, up and down El Camino from Wolfe to Santa Clara and back to where he lives near Hwy 85 and Fremont. they have Murphy St. entertainment during summer I might check out. Drove past HS alma mater on way back, which has gone lot of renovation to old buildings in front.
That’s up near Sardine Lakes. Love that area. Took the dirt bikes out there a bunch of times.
Went up to the ranger station at the Sierra Buttes. Very cool. Great fishing, four-wheeling and biking.

Good column Flav. Jenkins is spot on, when he says, “Because, at best, she’d be a fourth-string guard on the team.” Brutal, but accurate.
Surprised I was able to read this, as there usually is a paywall on the Chron, Merc, etc.
thanks hadn’t seen that one. Glad Jenkins has regained senses of this issue. Marketing lol, I always thought was weakest part of any brand that was sold in travel store where I worked. Those people were worst part of any company. Same w WNBA–it’s the quality of the players and skills they bring (i.e. the product itself) that are most important thing about selling the league. And as you said Flav she’d be tremendous and embarrassing distraction on Olympic stage.
Great pic of my hero J West and “Fritz” Williams, Warriors guard that was very frustrating player in 5 years there, also out of West Va like The Logo. Fantastic road uni too.
Did this in Hawaii. It was a trip being out in the middle of the ocean. Guide said it was about 400′ deep.
Cool video Unca. Yeah, when you are underwater with them and know where they are, they’re usually not a problem.
The guide said they sometimes got tiger sharks with the Galapagos sharks. She said they weren’t a problem out in the open water like that. Saw barracudas as well, but glad I didn’t see any tigers!
@xoot
I’m about halfway through auto bio of Rex Chapman, great read from early life and playing ball in small town Kentucky, to UK and NBA. didn’t realize Dad had played in ABA and was coach. Title is: It’s Hard for Me to Live with Me. A Memoir
Speaking of Apple Store robberies.
One of the bars on Murphy features blues. I keep meaning to check it out and never do.
Yeah used to visit one. Guy I went to HS with pianist Sid Morris played there in past.
The Apple Store story is briefly touched upon at start of book.
Eli’s supper club used to have some good blues and an open mike night IIRC.
Elis was the best until Troyce Key died. Turned into a punk club for a while. Grad students used to get mugged there in the 80s.
power of The Flap. I’m making a sardine sandwich today.
Comfort food!
mashed sardines on white bread, thin sliced raw onion, salt & pepper.
LOVE IT!!
i just toasted bread, mayo on both sides, I wilted some arugula and slapped that and the sardines on the bread, squirted with lemon and BAM! That shit was tasty.
Sounds absolutely delicious!
You’re not called Big Flavor for nuthin’!!
Sardines on a saltine cracker with a beer is a simple, but hard to beat combo…
Chicken of the sea (packed in oil) and triscuits.
Lobster rolls from Monterey Fish today. Accompanied by a glass of white burgundy. Under the umbrella in the backyard. I didn’t realize the “white wine sipping” insult goes all the way back to Randy Cross in 86.
Per Steven Kennedy on MCC, run differential in first 4 innings for Giants: pitching has allowed 172 runs/159 earned, “boasting 5.11 ERA, the fourth highest mark in the Majors.”
Contrast that with “the offense has only scored 114 in those innings, again the fourth lowest total in MLB.”
Hopefully Winn (and offense) can help get those totals adjusted favorably starting today.
As opposed to last night.
i’ve got no fucking clue what Stix is talking about here but I shall always pass on his musings. The Giants are -135 to win today, btw, so Vegas likes them.

Flav: I’m a bit perturbed by both the starter and the lineup. Is it even conceivable that orders are passing down from the Vegas gamblers relating to the chances of a Giants victory today…? Well, the Angelos also are “sporting” a starter with questionalble stats, so maybe we’re looking at a high-scoring episode, so that will be in play as well. I’m also extremely pissed at the MLB site for constantly and consistently pushing the “hero” meme, most probably to appeal to the comic-book and gamer crowd amongst the youngest generations. The high-end commercial which blasted forth on the day when the Yank-Me’s current #1 hero was featured in that “contest” in which the media darling slammed Giants pitching for a pair of dingers. The game is all hype on many levels and as a Giants fan since ’54 World Champs; I detest all the attention given to individuals rather than teams. The greatest player who ever donned glove, spikes and bat never received that kinda attention. That all goes to the monopolistic two premiere media centers, LaLaLand and Noo Yawk.
Just my opinions, but maybe I’m not alone in that.
-stix
this is a big start for Winn at least considering all the shit I’ve talked about him this year. If he gets blasted again I’ll have to face the uncomfortable possibility that I was…..wrong…..about….something?
Hey take a look at Kevin Pillar’s numbers this year btw
Didn’t he suck for the sox? Did he do that on porpose?
Regardless of place in the world, most shark attacks are on beachgoers near the beach in cloudy water or swimmers/divers at the surface. Sharks rarely attack scuba divers in the water column, unless the diver is screwing around chumming, to attract them for photos or some other dumb reason of spear fishing and the “attack” is merely an outgrowth of aggressive feeding behavior that the diver brought on himself. After hundreds of millions of years of evolution and adaptation, Sharks are cool and the ultimate garbage disposal ocean predator…
Jenkins: “The backup guards, Sabrina Ionescu and Kelsey Plum, are world-class elite players in every way, not to mention a delight to watch.”
Who’s watching them? How many of you Flappers are delighting in watching them? WNBA or Olympic games? I’m a regular watcher of the women’s game now, and Clark is as good as Ionescu and Plum, and a far better passer. Plum is probably a little better defender. But who cares about Plum? How many of you could identify her in a collection of photos? Plum is one of the four Vegas Aces on the Olympic team, an Aces team that is currently at about .500.
I do agree with Jenkins that Clark will appreciate the rest. It’s tiring carrying an entire league.
the entire league? LOL she can’t even carry her own team.
leagues been around since 96. It’s one reason more people started paying attention to players like her in college.
say, what’s the Fever’s record?
Even with CC RIder, I’m not gonna be clamoring to watch. Maybe when the Vulvas start playing. Isn’t that our new team?
Zum, no she is not as good as those 2. Ionescu is solid vet player and Plum is pure scorer. Both are better at what they do, due to experience. I do in fact watch both, and Clark is turnover prone passer who makes poor decisions when pressured and loses the ball and cannot guard anyone. Did you watch her vs. Liberty or Sun? DiJonai Carrington kicked her ass, twice now. She took ball right out of her hands, again, and drove right by her to hoop. Clark’s own coach yanked her off the floor and sat her for long time.
Plum should be Clark’s role model-she can score in variety of ways, go left and right and shoot midrange, none of things Clark (who only has right hand moves off dribble) does well at this level…yet. Her true value will be as spot up shooter coming off screens, ala Klay thompson…who was btw good defender in younger days.
By Clark “carrying the league,” I obviously meant ticket sales and TV viewership and revenue.
And the Fever have won 2 out of their last 3. (grin) Their opening schedule was the equivalent of if the Giants had to play a bunch of games against the Dodgers, Yankees, and Phillies to start the season. The league wanted to capitalize on her to start the season and threw the Fever into a buzzsaw.. 5 of their first 10 games were against the two teams in last year’s finals.
Ramos gets it going. Boom.
flav has point about Pillar off to good start.
My fondest memory is Loo dubbing him part of the “Vanilla Triangle” when he played here. Night we all went 2019 ball fell in for bloop hit (I despise those) btw Pillar Crawford and Panik and after I said something about it, Loo came up w spot on moniker.
All Star.
Heliot Ramos Allstar!! Another HR!! 2-0 Giantes!!
Clark’s a rookie and makes some rookie mistakes, but some of her turnovers are great passes that surprise her teammates and they botch the passes, and Clark gets the turnover. But the Fever are starting to find better cohesion together.
And I’m not saying her not making the Olympic is some big tragedy. We have an election coming in November that makes the Olympics seem pretty small.
I had Ramos high in this LU for along while, he hits the ball harder then any player and was wasting away batting 7-8th it’s not a RBI spot are seeing good pitches from.
I dug the Flapper lunch report. I had more of a brunch today, scrambled eggs, apple slices, and half of a sweet roll.
Stix’s Vegas reference was probably in regard to players and an ump being disciplined for breaking MLB’s gambling rules. How can that ump ever be allowed to ump in MLB again? Every time he blows a call, he’ll be suspect.
he called an immaculate WS game, didn’t misfire once.
After picking up a 50 pound bag of just picked Mattamuskeet sweet onions, for lunch we stopped by a small hole in the wall place for fried porkchop sandwiches. Very tasty.
You were still hungry after eating 50 lbs of onions???
“No man can eat fifty eggs.”
The Vegas Aces, who have 1/3 of the Olympic team, lost today. They’re at .500. Bummer. 10,000 people showed up. That’s pretty good. The Fever played the last place Mystics the other day and 20,000 people showed up.
Birria with fresh tortilla and a surprisingly good mezcal margarita.
Winn have another inning in him? Or is it 5 and dive?
Ramos starting to generate mound conferences around the league.
Give ’em Hel!
Ramos is flat out raking.
Earlier today I was dropping by a Barnes and Noble, and while I was in that area I planned to go to the Dick’s Sporting Goods nearby just for the heck of it. But Dick’s had left the building! The place is now an auto supply store. The business world is rough.
Ramos!!!
Halos did their homework, IBB Chapman and load the bases for Soler.
Yep, after Wilmet ground out everything worked for them. I don’t care for Alonso as rental, but Flores just hasn’t been able to get back in groove of last year.
sigh
1-2 to missing wlildly
O’shit.
Yaz owns right field.
makes the rough plays not the easy ones
wow. Ineptitude at its finest
Wow. There’s the fly ball. Too late
of course. This team is sofa king maddening.
What the Giants do best except for Ramos being good in the clutch..
Man that was some butcher job fielding attempt by Pillar on Ahmed hit looking like a goalie trying to deflect it..
And even after that and Ahmed stealing 3rd with one out they couldn’t score meh 🫤
weeeeeeee! Send in the clown ball.
just whe i start
feeling good about these guys.
Man, Ramos leadodf double. Now comes the hard part — getting him in.
Fuckin’ pathetic.
Is there any Soler System that we could jettison one-way Jorge too??
I’m so sick having to watch his AB,s that puking 🤮 just might feel better..
When the 1b, rf, and dh are weak-hitting, that’s a rough situation. Teams rely on those spots to do damage.
Besides Ramos&WadeJr this WHOLE TEAM is Weak Hitting and probably easily lead the most left on RISP in baseball.2 players Estrada&Flores leading the pathetic offense with 30+ RBI’s now Ramos joins the club at 30 with tons left AB’s ( only bright spot).
Luciano would be a better dh than Soler, but there’s no spot for Luciano, unless he looks OK at 2b for Sac-town and the Giants give that a try.
Losing 2 straight and the serie, at home, to the putrid Angels — wow, that is lame, embarrassing..
Another of the Giants’ many faults burned them today — stolen bases allowed, 2nd worst per game in MLB behind only the Mets. Angels steal 2nd, to 3rd on E throw and score winning run on 2-out single. And of course the flip side is Giants are dead last in SBs.
Casali E on throw allowing base runner to get to 3b reality hurt.
Guy woulda scored on the flare anyway. Course, it mighta turned out different.
That’s one of the many pet peeves about this team MacDog.DEAD LAST in SB with 23 and it’s not even close.Hell I remember saying after the first couple of weeks saying let’s have a poll on the 1st SB? Leaders coming in at 92nd place with 5 each is Chapman &Fitzgerald (a part time back a forth player) next at 154th place we have 2 SB’s from The Patrick Bailey Daily Double&Slater…And how in the world can Thario Estrada(23 SB last year)have1 SB and be tied with Joey Gallo lol 😂 ..
And yes every team can run on this team easily unless Bailey is back there and even he needs help from the pitchers who all go brain dead when runners reach 1st.But man teams are just laughing waiting to steal when the catchers were Murphy,Sabol,Reetz, now Casali with all rag arms and no accuracy
Then Theirs The RBI leaders 3 (Flores&Estrada, and now Ramos with tons less AB’s)with just over 3O and the lack of HR power yada yada yada ..
But wtf they got Winn’s ERA to drop to Exorcist number of .666 after giving up 2 bombs the second one 467ft🚀.And no I’m not ripping him BF I thought he was pretty good today it’s just there not getting anything from 4-5 spots that matters..
i don’t think you ripped him, he seemed to be ripping himself pretty good in the dugout. The dude has good stuff he just can’t finish stressful innings very well. I’m hoping he learns how to do that, quickly.
and the other thing is that I didn’t realize how bad his hard hit numbers were. I think the league has learned to lay off that slider or splitter or whatever it is and then they just sit back and wait to mash. He needs to adjust.
Zumiee– one other thing about CC and I think I’ve already said it but want to say it again cause I think it’s a big deal. She seems to be pretty universally disliked as evidenced by all the cheap shots she’s taken. My guess is that it’s just jealousy even though all these players should be bowing down and thanking God that CC came into the league. But I suspect there is a fair amount of “this white bitch” getting bantered around the league between many players who feel she hasn’t earned a damn thing yet. Putting her on the Olympic team would intensify that dislike by X 10. She’s better off earning her way on next time when she will likely be one of the top 10 players in the league by then.
And she could use the rest.
I want to hear James or anyone else chime in with his “saber” take on stolen bases . . . I seem to recall reading/hearing that statistical analysis clearly showed that the success rate of stolen bases is relatively low (even with the recent rule changes) and getting caught can be costly, i.e., an out. Conversely, walks and hitting for power were seen as more efficient ways to get on base and score runs.
Yeah, it’s irritating to read that the Giants suck at stealing bases, but that’s only one of their problems and to me anyway, it is a minor one versus all the others they have.
What a really terrible Giants’ loss will do:
Mrs.James: “Who is this again?”
James: “Remmy Ongala, from Tanzania … Dar Es Salaam, what a fucking great name for a city. I want to go there. It’s right across from Zanzibar. We could visit them both!”
Mrs. James: “What if Dar Es Salaam means ‘Death to the Infidel’?
James: “Who fucking cares? Better to be carved up by a scimitar than become a withered husk in memory care.”
salaam alaykum.
Get a room.
Dejong just slammed his 14th bomb for the White Sox
A comment I understood! Thank you…
The Royals are leading the Dodgers 7-2. The Royals have quietly become a good team. They have a young star, Witt Jr., that every team would love to have.
Good TV coverage for the WNBA tomorrow. Indy vs. Chicago, sort of billed as Clark vs. Reese, tomorrow morning on CBS, 9(!) AM Pacific Time. And ABC has a game after that.
In the WNBA, 8 of the 12 teams make the playoffs. Everyone is still in the playoff chase, lulz.
And CC Rider still won’t get in. Her biggest problem she has is her teammates don’t like her. They don’t have her back.
Dodgers lost. That ends the sports day on a little better note.
Last year, the Giants were 3rd in NL team ERA. As of yesterday, the team with the third ranked ERA in 24, the Braves, had given up 262 runs. The Giants, 328. SF has scored 299. In case you want to factor in defense, the difference in unearned runs is 7 in favor of the Braves.
299 runs scored, 269 given up = a team about 6 games over.
Imagine a game today where Winn does not give up the 2 run bomb.
I can imagine all kinds of stuff. I SAW the Giants leave runners on base all day.
Yeah, it was frustrating as hell, too. But you also saw Winn give up two bombs, and you saw the Angels score 12 runs against the Giants over two games. In a ball park that favors pitchers, during a year when runs are scarce.
SF has given up 332 runs. The Dodgers, with their stacked offense, have scored only 20 more than that.
A Brebbia sighting. Pitching for the White Sox vs. Arizona.
Well the Asiles are pretty barren with the Whitesox’s team,so a good spot for Brebbia to work on his diminishing career..
Check out DeJong’s #s.
When’s Wade coming back?
