A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Lame Loss

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 16, 2024

Friday night they got smoked, no doubt about it. But they really should have won that game yesterday. I’d love to know where they rank as a team with situational hitting. To the naked eye, they are atrocious. Matos hit another bomb last night. At least we have Slater’s bloop singles to comfort us.

Paul DeJong numbers, vs. last year w SF (9-49), really are amazing. Hasn’t helped ChiSox much but at least they beat DBax last night as he hit HR #14.

Look at what Joc is doing for DBax. Slugging is up 100 points and OPS is .891. He even has 4 SBs. No way I wanted him back but compared to what Giants getting out of DH spot… He’s only 32-why does it seem like that’s off by 5-10 years?

I could say the same thing about Wilbur Flores being 32?

Winn said afterwards that he felt pretty good, and he was getting swings and misses on split. Previous 4 starts he was getting whacked around. cursory look on B/R for OBP and slugging against are way up (and line drive avg.) and he’s walking more guys this year than last (3.2 vs. 1.7) so WHIP has risen from 1.04 to 1.34.

What about strand rate, LOB? is he worse out of stretch, making poor pitches in high leverage spots? Line sure looked a lot better after 5 than after 6.

Matos homered twice last night and stole a bag. Fitz had inside park HR and Ismael Munguia and D Walton also homered but Cats lost 7-6. Luciano 0-4 with 4 Ks yikes. Night before Mason Black gave up 3 HRs in second inning and 6 runs total in1.1 innings at Reno.

Her own teammates don’t have her back.

      What’s up with that?

IDK — is there a Euro Women’s League, one that doesn’t go into Russia? If so, I’m guessing she’d get a better reception by players in Euro. Who’s running this WNBA — whoever it is should be fired, and get somebody in there that runs it on the proposition you don’t S on the Golden Goose…

      • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 16, 2024 at 11:29 am

yeah I don’t get it. The league is just letting other players fuck with her and no one is doing anything. Not even her own teammates. It’s like she’s Jackie Robinson out there breaking the color barrier or some shit. Don’t those dummies understand that with CC thriving in the league they all thrive? Do they not like money or something? lol

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 16, 2024 at 11:12 am

She played well today, better job of not hunting stupid contested shots and moving ball around. She’s great in transition when there is more time and space to do things. Worked PNR well with Aliyah Boston, who took it to Cardoso today. These 2 teams combined 8-18 coming in. W is a W.

Reggie Crawford’s on the IL in Sac. Hope he hasn’t blown out the TJ elbow he was healing when the Giants selected him in the first round 2022. His WHIP and ERA were both about 1 in 8 relief innings. May be a quick exit.

What are those clanking sounds at the park today?.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 1:38 pm

SF must not get swept by one of the worst in MLB, at home. That would be a complete embarrassment and a look in the mirror moment for this organization. I don’t care who is out. Angels flat out have sucked all season…

If he’d rocketed home he’d’ve made it. Instead he kept looking behind at the lumbering 3Bman chasing him.

  14. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 1:53 pm

Giants must lead MLB in not scoring a guy from 2nd on base hits to the outfield. Then, Wisely wanders too far off 3rd and gets tagged out for the fielder’s choice…

  15. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 1:57 pm

Giants are so lame scoring RISP with no outs or 1 out. They are very adept at finding various ways to fail to score. Maybe some team(s) is worse, but if so, it’s hard to believe. I think the absolute lack of team speed on the bases hurts their ability to score, big time, plus just bad base running ability …

  16. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:02 pm

Passed ball sets up a run.

    Bad baserunning.

Giants already checking their usual boxes.

  17. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:07 pm

Bivens with nice outing. 4 Ks 3 ground balls. keeps ball down for most part. Only gave up the 1 hit, that left the yard, in 3 innings. iirc he had streak of 19 scoreless innings in Coast League before being called up.

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:12 pm

After his first excellent SO he seemed to relax and he grooved a FB for the solo HR. Then he was back to work around the corners with good movement. Gawd knows we need a pitcher.

  18. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:11 pm

  27. xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:17 pm

Thairo finally turns on one! Low breaking ball, so it wasn’t a high drive, but it looked good and scored two runs. If he’s heating up watch for a HR into the LF bleachers next AB.

How ’bout one at Wrigley coming up?

  28. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:21 pm

Wisely needs to improve his baserunning.

Otherwise, I don’t see a reason to put Ahmed in there against LHPs. Wisely is mashing both lefties and righties, and his D has been good enough at SS. Put Ahmed in only for late inning D purposes…

  29. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:24 pm

Soler should be deadly in this kind of AB. Scoring pressure is off…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 16, 2024 at 2:27 pm

Yep, there it is. Gone, 3 run dinger.

Soler must be wound tighter than a golf ball. He needs to relax and just swing at strikes.

Plenty of other options for tomorrow. Tyler Rogers threw 16 pitches in his 1 inning, Walker 9 getting 2 Ks. Doval hadn’t pitched in 4 days, since June 12 vs. Stros when he faced 3 batters and threw 9 pitches.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 16, 2024 at 4:44 pm

Hjelle only threw 10 pitches himself in his inning.

At this stage, I’d say all 3 of the above more effective than Doval is.
