Hicks Is The One Who Got Bent Over
I guess I can’t even hold this against Hicks. He passed his all time season innings total yesterday. It’s not even July. He hasn’t had a quality start since April 27th. I think the best course of action would be to put him in the bullpen when more than 1 of our starters comes back. We have so many arms down I don’t even know if that would work. But how many innings does he have in him the rest of the year? Realistically. 60?
Not sure how many more innings Hicks has left in his arm this year, but when he started losing it yesterday, it sure went fast.
Rockies win on a walk off pitch clock violation. Think that rule needs a little tweaking with men on base. And if the ghost runner is here to stay, they should play at least an extra inning or more the normal way before implementing that crap immediately in the 10th…
Hicks said legs got heavy after 3rd. Sigh Giants pitching has given up 26 runs in last 4. Webb goes today then it’s idk–they don’t have day off til next Monday. Btw Hicks Hjelle and Jackson they gave up 13 hits 3 BBs 4 HRs in 7 innings. ay
Ramos 1-19 since Giants won Estrada bomb off Neris game Monday. At least Conforto (and Chapman 7-46) got going–any spike of hitting and he can be dealt to team that needs OF help.
Slush said this is worst roadie since Philly 4 game sweep one at start of May where they went 3-7 and lost getaway game 9-1 to Rox. Winn and Webb lost 2 of those 7, Hicks 1 and erstwhile Jeffries and Black the other 2.
Found something I was unaware of that is great read: “After Jackie” by Carl Fussman ESPN books 2007. There’s very little writing by author; it’s oral stories by players and others, as in Monte Irvin Don Newcombe, sons of Larry Doby Bill Veeck and Satchel Paige, Orlando Cepeda. Maury Wills Buck O’Neil and others. Only 200 pages but stories are great.
Something else I heard yesterday was CD 2007 by Ishmael Reed as leader of quintet on piano with multi instrumentalist David Murray “For All We Know” and Roger Glenn on flute. lot of Ellington tunes including nice version of ballad Come Sunday.
With Hicks it will be an ongoing situation all year with his health and stamina to continue to pitch.Hasn’t he gone out there 2-3 times are more not feeling right from food poisoning, fevers?, are more then anything his insulin sugar count out of whack occasionally? the day he pitches.I admire his toughness and commitment, but yeah both him and the Giants need to be honest about his health moving forward ..
Jesus heading for another loss quickly 3-0 on 4 hits and 30 pitches off of Webb in the first.
Road-trip from Hell plus no inspiration ball from Willie’s Death and will be 0-5 trying to “win one for the Gipper” oops wrong sport but who really gives a shit.
can anyone hold a runner?
Bennie Molina could steal on us.
opposition is running WILD against SF pitchers lately
Coaching cannot escape some blame for this.
The pitchers don’t even seem to care about trying to keep runners from stealing. Anybody on the oppo with any speed and stealing skills who gets a single has a good shot at an effective double. So far, this BoMel era of coaching is not impressive at all..
Another steal.
4th in 5 innings. That is insane…
they could steal 100 bases today and it won’t matter if we can’t even get a fucking hit
They definitely need Wade back, he seems to somehow get them going. And I find myself finding that weird because Wade is a good player, but it’s not like he’s a superstar. This team seems back in the doldrums, and they are such a mediocre squad they could perk up from it or go down the dumper the next month with equal probability…
can’t beat the good teams and now we can’t beat the middling teams.
getting perfectoed is the ultimate shit icing on the crap cake.
This whole coaching staff is a disgrace!
And fucking Melvin just sits their with his head up his ass and just says we got to be better holding runners on lol 😂.I feel for Bailey who has no chance when even Big Tiittes gets 4-5 choppy steps toward 2nd!
Now for the laughs Giants 25 steals dead last ,Given up 87 SB’s a -62 and growing dailey tops in the league by ALOT!
I’m pulling for a Sonny Gray perfect game now since it would cap off this unforgettable road trip!Giants look like like they’re usual shit hacking at crap 💩 are Striking out!
Got one.
This team never seems to have any real direction or identity…
The roster is a mess with new guys like Soler and Chapman, and the young guys, both position and pitchers. Roster moves made by all the IL requirements and by plain ol’ non-performance contribute more to that to make this team have no soul. The local media doesn’t say it, but it’s just a bunch of guys, and most of them aren’t very good. Compare this to the 2010 team of “misfits” that had a lot of different characters, but it all seemed to mesh, plus they had a historically kick ass pitching staff, which helped a ton…
I don’t think a casual baseball fan in NY could name a single Giant. Maybe the occasional Met fan knows where Mr. Ed and Confloppo can be found. That’s about it…
can we do Debbie a favor and pick him up for a change?
J.D. Davis to Yanks…
where he will immediately catch fire
6 years of Farhan has netted Bailey and a ton of 1-2 year deals that have netted nothing.
If no playoffs this year, he’s got to go. He hasn’t developed anything much of his own picks, and he just seems to make up the roster as he goes along. If no post season, 6 full years at the helm is long enough to evaluate the approach. The 1 season of playoffs was clearly an outlier — because several legacy guys had career years and the team hit a ton of HRs. Ditching an analytical dude like Kapp as manager for a complete opposite traditional guy like Melvin told me right away that Farhan was flailing — if you believe in what you’re doing, you don’t do a 180 degree change when the going gets tough…
if Matos and Ramos can stick we would have a little something.
wtf? Yet another injury?
I remember Jermaine Dye breaking his leg like that.
thairo earned that base.
Agree with Loo’s 8:17 am comment. Manfred has been an idiot since he was elected Commissioner by the owner cabal. You or I could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out smarter words or rules.
Lulz.
I haven’t had alphabet soup in decades. Maybe I should get some to sharpen up my vocabulary…
Talk to Xoot. He’s the bloviating pontificator.
It appears he’s scuttling away across the floors of silent seas on a pair of ragged claws.
And of course the announcer has to say that the ground rule double was a bad break as if it’s ever a good one…
OK Ramos.
Time to strike and go ahead. We don’t need another 1 run loss…
Strike a hit, not out…
Wow. Any way they could have pinch run for Wilmer there? Ya gotta do something to at least help the situation to tie this thing up. Somebody could take over 1b for him, no?
well, we won’t lose by 1
Yeah, Craw adding insult to injury. How many RBIs does he have this season before then — a handful?
he has 3 now.
Criminy…
Giants are just hard to watch/listen to. This is NOT a good team. I don’t see how they can fix it without a massive mid season trade.
Adrift? Use your own word.

Not shocking that Snell cratered in a rehab start.
What a bust this guy has been.
Soler’s production looks great compared to Snell’s contribution…
Been following Sonny Gray (Cards pitcher today) since he was with Oakland. It just struck me how close his win/loss record is to Timmy (obviously, Timmy’s last few years were not stellar). Weird, how Gray has zero accolades, but a higher WAR versus Timmy. Anyway, here’s their record comparison:
https://stathead.com/baseball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&player_id1=gray–001son&player_id2=lincec001tim
Probably Timmy’s steep drop off contributed poor data to his last few years. I think his hip was hurt a lot more and a lot sooner than they let on…
Agree. The disparity in WAR is striking. Timmy was a “shooting star,” where 4 of his seasons were outstanding (and 2 of those were the best ever seen in MLB).
After the game, the Giants couldn’t wait to “get up and go” away from St. Louis.
ESPN got its money’s worth in the Fever/Sky game today. Very competitive one-point win for the Sky. Both teams are still a few years away from having the roster depth to compete for elite status, but their instant rivalry is the most interesting story in the league.
Robbie Ray also pitched in the game Snell was in today. According to Baggs, “Robbie Ray, made his first Triple-A appearance while ramping up from Tommy John surgery. Ray’s fastball sat at 93 mph as he threw 45 pitches in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out two, issued one walk and the only hit he allowed was scored a double that second baseman Marco Luciano lost in the sun.”
Baggs also noted that Johnny Cueto threw 6 innings for Texas and held the Cats to 1 run on 2 hits. He also mentioned that Johnny C has an opt out clause July 1st…
Feeling optimistic about Ray, could be a huge boost. Much less so about Snell ever contributing anything this year. I did love me some Johnny Cueto.
I agree about Ray. If Snell wants that opt out next year, he’s going to have to figure things out pretty soon. I don’t know how much shimmy shake Johnny C. has left, but ya never, never know.
Cueto was fun and definitely a gamer but he was always hurt and his contract turned out to be one of the worst in Giant history.
$ 130M for 39 wins over 6 seasons = $ 3,333,333 per win and 18 of em were in his first season…
Meaningless I know, but every time Cueto won a game as a Giant, he earned about twice what Marichal made in his entire career (238 SF wins)…
Marichal would make $50 million a year these days…
At 86? He’d probably only make the league minimum.
That is pretty abysmal. Wonder how much he made per shimmy. Still loved watching him pitch, but his injuries definitely sank his effectiveness…
Saw a couple of Cueto’s games and he won them both easily. Defintely fun to watch.
