Wisely!
My dad’s favorite player is Brett Wisely. He loves him. I tried to talk him off that when he first said it a month or so ago but he waved me off and told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. The elder statesman was right again.

my first comment last year about Wisely was that I thought he looked like a big leaguer and commented the same here this season. I think he is an every day player and looks like he is proving it. Maybe we should be looking if Estrada could bring back something before the trade deadline.
Me too Flav I love this guy. As Melvin said doesn’t matter where he hits in lineup he’s come through. When Estrada gets back he’s guy I want in there everyday at SS. Didn’t catch any of game til top 9th on radio and then bottom 9th at home on TV. As is I can live with Ahmed there; 14 groundball outs and 2 DPs for Webb. What a satisfying W!
Loo thanks for Cepeda pics. big personality guy as was said on postgame. Disrespected by Dark in famous quote about lack of baseball knowledge by black and latin Giants, Mays quieted impending revolt and calmed everyone down. Cepeda loved SF music and dining scene, and didn’t have problem hitting at Stick or anywhere else.
I knew friends coaching Little League in Sunnyvale, and one of player’s Moms knew Cepeda and he wound up doing free talk and clinic for kids. Can you imagine? Would any of these millionaires of today do something like that?
Noticed something else in box: 2 outs in 5th after Dogs rookie SP( who had already allowed Matos HR and Wisely single) faced Soler for third time and gave up single (his only hit of night) Roberts yanks him with the 2-1 lead and Wade Jr. up. Analytics (rising OPS .726 to .784 third time through order) strikes again/manager doesn’t give flying F about meaningless stat of “pitcher wins.”
Sure, Willie. The Cepeda trade for Sadecki was devastating to me but as lopsided as it turned out it it actually made sense to get a lefty starter to stick between Marichal and Perry at the time. Sadecki won 20 for ’64 champ Cardinals…
Oh yeah, and Mac and Cepeda was untenable situation–neither of these guys were OFs and poor Sadecki got all the heat.
Great story in Chron regarding Tito Fuentes, who does Giants games for Spanish radio and couldn’t continue for awhile after hearing news. He talked about his time here with Cepeda. turned out day Tito went 5-5 Cepeda was in tears because he’d been traded to Cards.

Tito and Lanier are the only Giants still around from that day…
Thanks for box Loo, love those. 5 singles for Fuentes, Bob Barton threw out Brock at 2b. Tracy Stallard always gets a laugh.
Props to A’s for snapping 11 game road losing streak and 5 overall for comeback 9-4 W in AZ last night. They trailed 4-3 in 8th before scoring 3 in 8th and 3 more in 9th. A’s hit 4 HRs and 3 solo ones in 9th. Noticed around baseball 5 different teams won scoring 3 runs or less.
Sure hope Giants can find some more pitching this weekend before day off Monday and road trip to ATL and Cleveland.
Imagine how fucked up this is that we are the worst at STOPPING stolen bases and we are the worst at STEALING bases. And it’s not even close they are last by a country mile.

idk know man I get despair of watching other teams run bases but…Other than Fitz, none of Giants can run even among young guys; it’s how Zaidi put current team together and I don’t see a fix on horizon. Estrada has 1 steal, Ramos 1, Matos 0, Wisely 1. Lee only had 2. Luciano and Schmitt aren’t gonna steal bags either and Sabol stole 4 last year. Only guy in Sac with real wheels is McCray, who might be year away. Just not sure where they can play Fitz.
On other hand everyone acknowledged they can do better job, from Bailey to Hicks Webb, coaches et al. My issue is Giants pitchers are 13th NL for hits allowed and 11th for walks–they let too many guys on base in first place. That Crow Armstrong guy is hitting .194 with OB of .246. he went 0-4 last night as Cubs lost again–he shouldn’t be on base to begin with.
One other thing–the Reds lead NL in steals with 117 but they are 9th NL for runs scored and have scored 14 fewer runs than Giants.
last off season Zaidi said publicly that he was going to fix the stolen base problem. And, as you said, those are his guys. It is time to face the reality that Zaidi might not know what the fuck he is doing.
Sure and I wish they had guys that ran more. Conforto coming back and signing guys with power like Soler and Chapman isn’t going to do much for speed, though Chapman leads team with 7. HRs are going to help team score more runs than SBs, and they’ve hit few on homestand in past week.
Despite Wisely getting picked off the night before last, the kid can run. I wouldn’t discourage him from running. I hope Melvin doesn’t give up on him.
That box score Loo shared is like going down a rabbit hole, e.g., my 3rd favorite player from the 60s and and 70s, after Mays and Speier, Tito Fuentas, whom almost always twirled his bat upon getting set in the box. He ended up #3 in ROY voting that year (look at his OBP through 25 games and what he ended up at through the end of the season . . . hint – it went down quite a ways).
Lindy McDaniel, was another outstanding Giant that no one knows jack about today, other than a few Flappers here. Over a four-game span, McDaniel retired 32 straight hitters in 1968 or ’69. He had at least 170 saves, with about 150 wins. Giants traded him to the Yankees in 1968 and I consider that one of their biggest blunders, as he rejuventated his career with the Yankees, particularly in 1970.
Jim Ray Hart, another favorite of mine, had an outstanding year that season, the next to last of his 20 plus bomb seasons (total of 5 such seasons, including 2 with 30 plus HRs).
What else? Look at the Giants record after 25 games, where they were out of the “starting gate” like a championship thoroughbred, 18-7. I could go on, but you get my drift. Another golden age for Giants baseball. Thanks for sharing Loo.
I’m really not such a terrible person…
pen game?
Matos is a bit squirrelly out in RF.
Easy double!
Soler gets er started.
huh nice
duuuuuh what the actual fuck chappie?
That was brutal. Stealing 3b, ya just gotta make it.
What’s the fucking point in even trying?

Hell of a catch by Matos.
I thought that was a pretty good throw by Matos.
love these pen games
Valiant effort but kid didn’t strike out any of 16 batters he faced.
Nothing wrong with walking Ohtani but you could have sent him to 1b with one to the hip.
“you could have sent him to 1b with one to the hip.” Exactly, make em pay.
fuck. Doinks
are killing us.
Tough one hop by Matos throw kinda ate up Bailey.Otherwise a throw all the way and the runner was dead meat !
Geez now the wheels are falling off 6-5! This game has a lot more fireworks in it though in only the 4th inning..
good to see everyone sucking out of the pen.
Nice inning from Rodriguez. Just need a couple more.
Giants put wood to Dogs pen last night, gonna have to do it again.
Fuck John Smoltz ripping the Stadium and Giants fans!
Do you know why this stadium is the coldest in baseball?
No why says the other Announcer?
Cause it’s filled with Giants fan! WTF what a doucebag..
lighten up, Francis. How is that a diss? It’s a dumb joke
For play by play guys that are suppose to be somewhat impartial I didn’t care for it and I would blow up your drill sergeant with psycho throwing the hand grenade at Smoltz..
Doink for a doink.
Great AB from Wade Jr. off lefty.
Yeah Walker Ks them both.
Here we are in just the 7th inning, but it sure feels like the second game of a double header.
Slater has that base stolen 3 yimes

Larry Baer and Greggie are happy tho.
good old fashioned 4 hour game.
Think even the Ghost runner scored twice?
Such an embarrassment the Giants couldn’t get it done last inning ..
and we get another pen game tomorrow. This shit is just depressing.
What a fucked up game. I forgot to say fuck you FOX.
