A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Birddog goes from the friendly confines of Oracle to the scary yard in Atlanta. But upon closer look maybe it’s not so scary? Of course the Braves have some stud hitters but it’s not translating into runs. Can you believe we have scored more runs than Atlanta this year? 380 > 354. Of course we’ve played 3 more games but still. And it’s not just because they don’t have Acuna, they’ve been pretty impotent all year with run total. So who knows? Maybe Birddog surprises them?

Nothing would surprise me these days. This team waffles from outstanding in their field to shitting all over the field.

Which I guess is why we can’t escape the grasp of .500. It would be nice to see at least Rachel Ray contribute at some point. The rest have been gone so long, it’s like they weren’t even here.

Lets win another series! Weird ATL hasn’t been scoring. Acuna having a bad year by comparison when he got hurt. Lets hope it continues for 3 more days!

If you haven’t seen it, look up the back story of Spencer Bivens! Played in the French pro league, and bounced around independent ball for years! Such an awesome story! A great win for him!

  4. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 2, 2024 at 10:06 am

Yeah, Bivens is great story. Hopefully he can continue to contribute in near team til other SPs are ready. Wiping out Ohtani with last pitch was fantastic.

btw saw this one in TA: O-for 5-tani.

Angel Pagan is 43 today. Did he ever really retire? wonder what he is up to.

I’m guessing that, to start getting pension payments, the player has to finally admit their MLB playing career is over and officially retire. Accepting that it’s over can take several years for some players, though.

“Love all these remembrances about how you guys got hooked on reading. Not certain, but is this “lost” on today’s generation?”

It’s probably hard to say. Sometimes it takes the right books to come along at the right time. The Harry Potter books obviously were huge at the time. The Twilight series and Game of Thrones series were huge. The youth are fixated on their phones nowadays, though, so I’m not sure how the book market can break through that now.

    As per usual:

“Sunday’s Fever-Mercury WNBA regular season game averaged 1.93 million viewers on ESPN, marking the fourth-largest WNBA audience since Memorial Day 2001. The top four have come this season alone, all for games involving Caitlin Clark and the Fever.”

I kinda like are chances against Braves the run difference even if they have played 3 more games is +26 doubt they would score that many runs in their 3 game makeup..

Yeah 1st road start for Birdsong but he grew up in the shit humidity of the south so I’m not worried especially with the league still trying to figure him out.I like his easy going demeanor his stuff for a 22 year with 4 pitches,FB Slider,Curve,Change up is remarkable if he can control it better.Ryan Vogelsong in a bold assumption thinks with his build&size reminds him of a young Justin Verlander the way he delivers pitches.Hey if he even turned out half that good the Giants would be thrilled..

Kids are really starting to payoff Ramos,Wisely,Fitzgerald,Matos just need to be out there ALOT!!

Seems like the Sac yo-yo bus and more patient Discipline approach hitting is beginning to work with these players..

You never know with certain players, look at the Dogpile with James Outman( local kid born in Redwood City)3rd ROY last year now after hitting .148 he’s back at AAA needing a reset..

Like all the others he has to keep the walks to a minimum.

    Randy Arozarena slash lines:

    2023: .254 .364 .425 23 HR’s

    2024:.196 .307 .356 11 HR’s

There’s a lot of disappointing players this year on all teams..

  12. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 2, 2024 at 3:07 pm

Not trying to wake him up, but look at Matt Olson.

Last year 54 HRs .993 OPS. This year after 82 games 12 HRs .748 OPS.

How bout Austin Riley? 37 bombs last year, .861 OPS, this year 9 and .745

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 2, 2024 at 3:23 pm

I think anyone not named Ohtani or Judge is way down in their numbers compared to last year.

    Jorge Soler

Norm Cash won the 1961 AL batting title with a .361 average. Never hit over .286 in any other season…

Didn’t realize how good hitter Harvey Kuenn was before he came to Giants. 7 straight years over .300, then once again for SF.

  17. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 2, 2024 at 4:57 pm

Had to mention Riley BF ? Geez upper deck..

Yeah he always does good against SF.

Well back to back Birdsong gives up bombs atleast their solos..

  18. djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on July 2, 2024 at 4:57 pm

    Bombsong

  19. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 2, 2024 at 5:10 pm

Chapman needs to hit a 3 run bomb here!

  20. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 2, 2024 at 5:15 pm

Damm ball was smoked twice now by Chapman and nothing to show for it.Hitting it to the wrong guy Kelenic ?as that would of tied it..

When Estrada returns from IL, hopefully signals end of Ahmed time with giants. Better off keeping Fitz and sticking Wisely at SS.

  28. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 2, 2024 at 6:09 pm

Ahmed is like having the pitcher batting ninth.

  29. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 2, 2024 at 6:12 pm

How about the homeplate ump stealing several walks from the Giants early in the game. The electronic pitch challenge system is coming to MLB. Maybe as soon as next season.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 2, 2024 at 6:15 pm

I predict fans will love it.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 2, 2024 at 6:29 pm

I doubt it Zumie to many kinks to iron out including players some like some don’t philosophy and the player I believe can challenge a robot call even once, so they game slows down even more..Maybe in 2 years at the earliest time will tell…

Quality win. Ramos to AS game for sure. Have to have one. Who else? Maybe a great start from Webb gets him in? If they need a middle reliever it will be Rogers

  42. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 2, 2024 at 7:30 pm

3 more HRs. working on that run differential too.

Yeah Ramos doing it all. 2 hits HR stole a bag and made nice grab in OF.

About 110 degrees in the Calif. Central Valley the next two days, and over 100 for the next week or so. That’s July in the Central Valley.

    • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on July 2, 2024 at 8:53 pm

110 or so for the next four days actually. And 100+ for the next two weeks.
