What’s That Smell?
Snell today. I am looking forward to it the same way you look at car crashes on the freeway. It’s astounding how bad he’s been this year. I guess some of the blame can go to Boras who forces his clients to sit all Winter and then jam the ramp up with a week to go before the season starts. But regardless he’s been terrible and I have almost no hope that he’ll turn it around this year.
Hey All, Just checking in with y’all. Everything is mostly good on my end .. dealing with some geriatric health stuff (no fun!) & been running like the proverbial headless chicken.
Reading the Flap is my “first-things-first” morning ritual and has been for years. Have not been able to respond lately.
Anyway, out the door now for a day of more unfun stuff — damn, getting old sucks the big one! But, want you to know I’m with you all. GO GIANTS !!!
Hang in there, BB…
Suck-ass fucking day for me. Had to put our 12 year old lab down at 2:00 am this morning.
No sign of anything until late last night. Fucking sucks.
oh no. What was wrong? All of my condolences, Chuck
Oh Dear Unca, my sincerest condolences!!
I’m a dog person (2 German Shepards) one just turned 8 last week and has recently been displaying the classic G Shepard symptoms of hip dysplasia .. dreading the coming inevitability.
Again , my heart is with you & yours.
Sad day. Sorry chuck sometimes this world truly sucks.
Sorry for your loss, unca. Even when you know ahead of time, that is one fucked up day, can’t imagine an unplanned emergency one. Take care man.
Nice pics in Chron of Mays event yesterday. Jon Miller Dusty Felipe Amalfitano et al.
Always sad to hear demise of beloved pets. Their time here always seems so short.
Saw another pic in Chron of Warriors Jackson-Davis trying to block out Embiid, as he and Podz got to practice vs. some members of Olympic team in Vegas. No idea how Kerr figures out who to start/sub and what combos work best. Other teams out there gunning for US (host France beat them in Tokyo iirc) and gaining on them; look forward to watching this unfold.
she had a huge mass in her chest that wasn’t readily apparent. She had blood work done in April and they didn’t detect anything g then. She was fine yesterday morning we rook our walk but when it was time to eat dinner she wasn’t hungry. A very bad sign. Then she had trouble breathing as the night wore on. By midnight it was clear something g was bad. I thought it was the flipped stomach thing but it was worse.
the mass had caused her lungs to fill with fluid and she was just struggling to breathe and was really getting uncomfortable. By the time they did the shots she was almost gone as it was. It came on so fast though. She wasn’t in pain at least.
im devastated for you and your family.
So am I, Chuck. Like I tell everyone who goes through this always remember what a great life she had because of you and your family…
I am too. It just breaks your heart and it doesn’t go away anytime soon. I inherited 3 cats and they are all getting along in years. Just a matter of time. If I get another one along the way it won’t be a kitten I’ll just go to the cat rescue and get a 10 year old so we can die together.
So sorry Chuck that really does sucks bigtime! Gone thru many dogs Chocolate ,Chesapeake,Border Collies,Siberian Husky..Mine like yours over the years are FAMILY for life!!!I know this cuts deep! My condolences!! And it does Fucking Suck !!Deepest Condolences to you& you’re family
I have a 14 year old Chug named Meister right now still moves ok and when I grab the leash he goes balletic he knows Im taking him to the dog park with the windows rolled down for the ride! Most of the other dogs seem to know to bow down to senior respect when he shows up lol.. I’m dreading the day I would have to do this to him as well..
So sorry for your loss Unca (along with everyone here whom have experienced similar losses).
Baldy praying for your health to get better. I hope it improves going forward.
Gausman to pitch Wed game. Getting hit hard in last 5 starts, 21 runs (19 earned) in 27.1 innings. Yanks lit him up for 7 runs in 4.1. ERA up to 4.64 worst mark of any of their SPs. 3rd year of 5 year deal @$110 million. ouch
Jays also bring to yard Justin Turner. 5 HRs so far in 245 ABs…sounds like last chance to boo this guy.
Feeling it for ya’, Unca.
I still have the photo avatar up of the snarkkdog, he’s gone 3 years now. And, he’s one of my backgrounds on my computer screen. Paddy was 90 pounds of affection and fun and Choco lab doofusness. Never missed a meal, for sure! I regularly think about and miss our black shepherd Urs, a great, smart, loyal, protective girl, she was the big sister and playbuddy to our snarkkettes in their early years — she had to leave us in Aug 2006 at 12 1/2. Dang, that’s enough…
So sorry to hear Chuck. Losing a family dog hurts. Hang in there.
Lost our pup in March and I still miss him when I come in the door:(
we’ve had 2 labs the past 22 years. Really sucking right now.
There’s nothing to make it feel better right now. Sorry you have to feel that pain, Chuck.
what Loo said is true though. As pet owner you make their life as good as you can and take best care of them while they’re alive.

Whoa, thanks Flav!
Makes sense to me. A Wisely choice.
So sorry, Unca. Sorta went through the same thing with my last dog 7 years ago with the sudden part of it. It’s tough to deal with though no matter how it happens.
Last minute decision to witness Groundhog Day in person. Will Snell see his shadow or not? The season depends on it!
Not certain, but I think Flavor indicated that the Snell signing was one that would likely go “south.” Unfortunately, I have zero clue how to use the WordPress search query to find his comment and/or daily post . . . use to be EASY when I had my travel blog or searching Flav’s Flap blog (but that hasn’t been the case for at least a couple of years now).
Yeah, at the beginning of the season BF said that Snell’s success last year was no guarantee that he wouldn’t crater this season.
Thank you Zum. That was almost verbatim what he said (with salty language added of course).
Sorry for your loss, Chuck. We’re all thinking about you and your family.
Dumping Ahmed to me means the Giants might be all in going after SS Bo Bichette..
The Phillies are shredding the Dodgers tonight.
In the days of pennant races that would be welcome news…
True, but since visit to SF Dodgers are 4-6 and dropped 2 of 3 vs. DBax before taking 2 of 3 at Latrine vs. Brewers.
Agree Loo, but James gets to do more mathmatical equations with 12 or is it 15 playoff spots?
Sheesh, looking at the Blue Jays LU . . . How the mighty have fallen. Obviously, I know about Chapman, but what happened to Bichette? Damn, he sucks now. Biggio, the other part of the 3some, sucks too (but for the Bums . . . a good thing). Only one doing good is Guerrero. The outfield is geriatric with Kiermaier and Springer.
”Grading the off season: Gotta go with an A. Farhan started slow and finished strong. It’s impossible to say we aren’t better than we were last year. Certainly from the standpoint of how incredibly boring our players were. But also, this team is just flat out better. Am I a huge Snell fan? Hell no. It shocks me that this guy has won 2 CY’s. But for max 2 years? He’ll do just fine. And he instantly takes the pressure off Harrison and even the infirmed who now don’t have to feel like they need to race back to the roster.”
Auspicious start to James and Snell’s evening.
You can tell analytics dept. didn’t craft lineup tonight–Thairo and his .264 OB leading off.
Soler a late scratch.
Thanks Mac.
Not that any Giants have gotten on base yet. Kikuchi looks awesome. 95-96 with fastball and most pitches at bottom of zone.
Kikuchi sounds like something you would say when you’re tickling a Japanese baby…
Ramos!
Ramos bomb!
Vamos!
This guy’s for real!
True that.
Ramos says I can handle your Fastball Kulich!
1-0 on the Bomb to Center Field!
That’s are A/S and Ramos proves he belongs along with Webb..
Yeah good matchup so far.. Snell holding his own so far,KOO KOO Kulich impressive as well..
As good an outing as you can ask for from Snell.
Agreed.
Thanks for the well-wishes. What is killing me is the suddenness of this. I didn’t expect it even though Maggie was 12. She was in good shape and was fine most of the day.
Ooooh that Snell with a lead after 5?
Be still . . .
I know it has been a major fucked day for you, unca. Take care man.
Unca, it’s the absolutely the worse scenario. I feel ya bro.
My young (4yrs) & beautiful black G. Shepard collapsed and died in my arms within 60 seconds of me coming in the door one day, 6yrs ago. Vet figured it was an aneurysm.
Hang in, it’s gonna take some time.
I cried for at least a month, and still get overwhelmed thinking of it.
Heartbreaking. So sorry, man.
Damm 1st and 3rd no outs and on cue they don’t add on!
Kuklich 9 strike outs all swinging is impressive..He blew cheese past both Fitzgerald &Wisely ugh 😩 Well Snell held up great in his best start that’s a good sign hopefully..
Now 11, with the first caught looking.
Ah shit.
Kruk put the jinx on Walker with the All-Star talk.
Dang. Burnt by hanging slider both times.
Shit! I was going to post a YAY for 1st good start by Snell. Grr
Time for SF to hit a 3R homer. Do we ever do that?
Walker can’t put guys away. He’s had favorable counts to everyone and can’t get the out.
Chuck our small dog was 15 and doing great but had a heart valve issue. Bugged me for an after dinner treat (success), went to patrol the backyard after just like always and didn’t come back in. Weird so my wife went to look, and found him in the yard 10 ft from the door. Devastating. Hope we pull this game out so you can have a moments joy
Was just the 40th anniversary of this tragedy. You might have to be a racing fan to appreciate the shock of it…
Suddenly a young champion is gone – Sports Illustrated Vault | SI.com
29 years since Jerry Garcia passed away as well. I was trying to get tickets to a Shoreline show when i heard the news.

Yaz pinch hitting so I’ll settle for Yaz!
Should’ve stuck with Matos. And why not pinch-hit Wade for Flores?

Dodgers DBax and Padres all lost tonight.
Adam Duvall with 3 run HR off Zac Gallen for ATL in 6-2 W. M’s smoked Padres at Petco 8-3.
Jays only got 3 hits all night.
Giants kids at bottom of order Matos Fitz Wisely had 4 (for 10 ABs) with all important walk.
We were there for the Wilmer walkoff walk, too.
