First Game to Us
Great to see Harrison finally pitch effectively and my dad’s boy Wisely continued his strong representation of the orange and black. Birddog goes tonight and wouldn’t it be nice if we could finish the first half on a bit of a roll? Back to bold baby!
Does anyone remember why Twinfan called himself Twinfan? I know he told the story but I’ve forgotten it.
His dad was Twins broadcaster from 61-66 per Wikipedia…
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Scott_(sportscaster)
Missed all but top 9th last night though I did catch Flems excitement over Conforto double that extended lead to 7-1 on way home from basketball. Bailey missing 100 mph pitches from Doval was odd and could have got someone hurt but was not about to break success of game time silence.
I like Conforto and I hope Giants keep him. He has bizarre splits home and away so hopefully he can build on evening those outs. Seems like good guy publicly and I’ve heard zero complaints from him about occasionally being platooned by guys with lot less track record of being good hitter. He gets XBH every 10 times up, equal with Ramos for team lead.
Great to see Wisely highlights, Harrison with good outing and bounce back from resilient group. I’d still trade Doval though (smiley face here). Thanks again to James and BB for musical tips.
Another 4 PM game? Shadows aren’t good.
I do remember Twin talking about SS Zoilo Versalles having quite shoe collection. Wasn’t everyone that could make 30+ errors and still wind up MVP.
Slush said the interpreter went out to mound by himself because “PitchCom wasn’t working in Spanish.”
Just saw Loco’s response to the IP numbers. 6 of the 10 games they’ve used a one inning opener were in June, which explains the lower IP average for starters that month. 10 games so far in July, with one opener and the Harrison and Webb aberrations (we hope) to account for the dip. In any case, I think the point stands, the bullpen will continue to be used heavily just like it has been around the rest of the league.
It’s the quality of those first 5 innings that’s been the Giants’ biggest problem. And any August game Randy Rodriquez has to come in to start the 5th after Ray or Cobb has thrown 4 good innings, I’m ok with. If by September, it’s 5 innings, all the better. But, first, SF has to play well enough the rest of this month for it to matter.
I may have missed an opener, but the obvious ones I used the IP from the first two pitchers. Some of those were at or over 5 and others were not. Still, with limited pitch counts coming for Harrison, Ray, Cobb and maybe Snell I would expect to see a downward trend in August.
You are right about the quality of the 5 IP which I agree is an issue. Yep, a solid 4 and out is better than an exploding 5th.
Yeah probably right Loco I feel the only 2 Starters that can give u 6-7 innings are Webb&the young strong kid Birdsong ( yeah he might be raw but he pitches like a seasoned vet) after that u have 2,, 5.3333 guys lol 😂 still shows 5.1 on the stats but whatever,Snell&Harrison then the 3-4 inning rehab on pitch count Ray&Cobb( Cobb I don’t know at all what he has left at 35 coming off hip surgery, then fucked up shoulder setback)Hicks I feel will be better off now helping out the BP and with the break, and less usuage maybe 2 inning stints I think his velo ticks back up to 97-98 again as he can just sling it for 30-35 pitches..
Ha, I just assumed you used the splits available on BR. I’m not sure if treating the opener/bulk combos as starters raises or lowers the avg., and I’m not going to bother to find out!
A one-inning start would lower the average, eh? Even the 2-3 guys in the order go 1-2 innings so it’d push it down. Bivens went 5 the other day bu he’s by far the outlier for the pen games.
I suspect you’re right, Chuck, but I’m still not looking!
As you’d expect, Webb is our inning eater. In June he started 6 games 4 of them he went 7 and 2 he went 6. Harrison’s 2 starts in June were both 6 (6 and 6.1). Of the 5 games Hicks started 2 went 5 IP. Winn’s 3 starts had 1 at 6 IP. Snell, Howard and Birdsong each had 1 start where they went 4.2, Bivens had that 1 at 5IP (I know that was supposed to be an opener, but ya go 5 and get the win it’s a start).
What a useless exercise on my part, sorry about that. It really doesn’t matter if we average a little above 5 IP or a bit below, winning is what counts.
Yeah that’s right with the pitch com it wasn’t working properly and this other coach u never heard maybe just wanted some airtime debut?went out to talk some Spanish to Doval saying Caba aSol ( what’s happening)I don’t want Bailey crossed up which was happening ( not needing new glasses Chuck) frequently and didn’t want him to take 101 FB in the cojones when Doval’s throwing a slider. It
It wasn’t just Doval. It happened all night.
Birdsong last season pitched 100 innings btw 3 levels of minors. So far this season 57 in minors/14 with Giants. Again Giants philosophy has been not to exceed 10% jump in innings pitched…so if he goes 5 today that brings him north of 75, leaving another 7 starts at 5 per before he gets over 10% threshold, like Harrison.
I don’t think Harrison makes it to September so let’s see how much more they get out of Birds, especially if September games do become important.
After weekend Giants will have 65 games left, or 13 times through 5 man rotation. Might need another SP at deadline, like lot of teams.
Forgot about Bivens down in Sac. pitched 93 innings last year mostly in relief. Don’t think he has started game since he went back down. 44 innings for Sac 17 with Giants 1 start.
Nice to see a game like yesterday I missed but caught the highlights.
I liked twinfan not sure felt the same about me though. At the Splash at first I thought he sounded like a knowitall(which turns out he did know a lot) and at times I could be an asshole. There were so many on the Splash I just thought that was the way it was. But I always paid attention to what he said.
Buxton looked like he was lost out there in CF last night. If SF keeps hitting some deep in gaps, he looks like he’s not catching ’em…
highly doubt Z trades for an SP unless all his plans fall apart (Ray, Snell AND Cobb don’t make it back).
After this weekend Giants have 65 games left. At 5.1 per start that’s 330 innings for SPs.
Webb and Snell give 150 say in 13 starts each. Harrison and Birds another 80. that still leaves 100, or 20 starts of 5.1 for Cobb and Ray, who have made 0 so far. Best laid plans and all, unless Z wants to promote more of the kids I don’t think he has enough to make it if any of above listed have issues.
I’m not so sure they won’t bend a bit on the IP totals for Harrison and Birdsong, if things are going well. It’s not like 140 innings is a form of child abuse. They do have Bivens and Young in Sacramento, who would just have to be not terrible if they’re needed.
Yeah Twin could be a real pain in the ass from the splash to the Flap as we used to go off on a few disagreements along with plenty of others, especially BF lol ,but he was knowledgeable about baseball, and their was his soft side when he wanted to give away computers with his prize contests.I actually won a computer for closest total in runs scored by Giants in 2012 W/S I believe? I text him saying I don’t need it , and thankfully he didn’t call me a dickhead and understood and shipped it off to 2nd place guy Blade I believe?
You know his old man Ray Scott was a tremendous broadcaster, called the first 2 SB’s games on CBS along with 2 others later. He also did the play by play in the Famous “Ice Bowl” game in 1967 between Packers and Cowboys, it was -13 degrees with wind chill factor at -37!
It was so freaking cold the referee’s had to yell out infractions due to their metal whistles would stick to their lips! Watched that game as a kid and even I felt cold, one of the best games alltime and the Cowboys lost which made it better!
Ray Scott was voted 28th out of the top 50 broadcasters alltime and was beloved by many of his peers, for his unique style.Long career calling college football games including the Orange Bowl once, plenty of baseball games with Twins and plenty of awards!
Jerry Kramer is still alive at age 88. Instant Replay great book from 1967.
The ball is so juiced. Judge just homered on a poorly hit pop-up…
Today’s obituaries: Richard Simmons (76) & Dr. Ruth (96)…
I hate it when these health fitness nuts drop dead early.

It makes me feel great about not jogging.
Trump just got shot.
In the ear. Apparently they have the shooter. Or they killed him.
Or it’s a movie cap. False flag deal.
Didn’t think Bailey was gonna make that play.
Karros again lol. My sister worked at KCAL in LA when he was first hired to work for Dodgers over there. she used to call him “Kharis”, after the character who became the Mummy played by Lon Chaney Jr. in the follow up movies in 1940s after Boris Karloff original.
Rust movie star Alec Baldwin was acquitted in a courthouse so he couldn’t of been the shooter of Trump..
Birdsong is all over the place.
Trump getting all the breaks.
Yazzzzzzzzzzzz gives up 2 bags.
Go talk to the Birdie, Bailey
Bailey sucks at catching balls. He’s given up 5 in the past 2 games.
Maybe he’ll be the first catcher to have a syndrome named after him.
wtf? Kid K’s Kepler and then Bailey PB with runner on 3b. You call that pitch you have to catch it.
Where’s my ballgame?
Damm we got Trumped.I like to give the network an earful since both are mine working..
Heidi bowl 2
Really, Minneapolis and the Bay Area could give two fucks about this. I might have been interested if they had some better marksmanship to report on. Put the game back on!
I nominate this as the most incredibly unbelievable day in sports history. How could Rozelle among others allow it?
1963 NFL Scores – Week 11 | The Football Database (footballdb.com)
Coincidentally, Dallas and Washington both on the road…
Meanwhile Ramos ties game up and Twins kid SP is gone one out bottom 5. At least Birds got that far.
A mere graze of the foul pole, I’m sure the Giants will defiantly raise their fists and triumph!
Trump has to be the luckiest fuck in human history.
Reaping the whirlwind.
The devil is working overtime.
At least streameast has come through for me.
Bailey with the peg! Dumb move but hey.
Our fuckin stadium strikes again…
yep
Yep, Belt Alley.
5 foul RBIs.
Hjelle might be out of gas too.
Third game in a row he’s given up a run. 3 innings 10 hits 6 runs.
Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft.
No worries. This is where we win either 2 or 3 in a row, as we are in the rinse cycle of the “rinse and repeat” pattern.
Go check the game logs to the beginning of the season.
Tonight’s consolation jazz on the turntable is Frank Rosolino’s first record. A great trombonist and a pretty good marksman, too!
https://www.elsewhere.co.nz/weneedtotalkabout/6786/we-need-to-talk-about-frank-rosolino-the-night-the-lights-went-out/
Ah, “consolation jazz”, wonderful concept. Lately I’ve been watching games more often with sound off, especially Sundays. I have Curtis Fuller CD from Jazz Heritage with Yusef Lateef on tenor, but otherwise unfamiliar with trombone leader LPs. Mal Waldron’s “The Quest” was quite interesting!
A satisfying Fuller go-to is Bluesette. To my ears, Benny Golson plays too many notes at times, but a classic from a great year. You may like Waldron’s earlier stuff better. Mal/2 is the other LP I have.
NBA summer league quite more interesting than I thought. Lot of high draft picks in there like UConn guys Stephon Castle and Clingan, plus locals like Jamaree bouyea of USF Dons and Keshad Johnson San Leandro HS. Warriors best guy last night was Daeqwon Plowden of Bowling Green someone I’ve never heard of. Last NBA guy I know from same school would be Howard Komives.
Podz (even longer hair than last year) and Jackson-Davis (much shorter hair) both look good for GS, though Podz can be as infuriating as inspiring. Hit his 3s last night and moved ball well with less overdribbling. Still don’t understand how NBA guard can shoot 63% FTs but he um has lot of confidence. Jackson Davis looks more mobile on D.
Interesting box score in River Cats game at Salt Lake–11-8 W. Dunno where yard is but average elevation there is 4300 ft.
Luciano (2b) homered to RF in both first 2 ABs. Overall 4-5 scored 3 drove in 2
top 4 guys lineup including Schmitt (3b) Villar (DH) and RF Jerar Encarnacion had 12 hits in 18 ABs 4 BBs 1 K. SS was 26 year old Christian Koss, who also homered, his first since promoted.
Whisenhunt lasted 4 innings 5 hits 4 BBs 3 runs 7 Ks 80 pitches. Faced 20 batters almost half got on.
Nice hitting from Wade Jr. and Bailey (robbed earlier by Margot). Reds Mets and Cards all lost so far, good day to start making up ground.
Snell clean thru 5 innings with 6 K’s on only 58 pitches! The pitch count for him recently has been remarkable, 3Straight starts with the one at Sac has been sharp only allowing 2 hits.Real good sign for the 2nd half..
69 thru 6!
Ocrap lives up to his name.
Nice way to finish off solid 7 with GIDP and K.
7-8 guys (Yaz and Thairo) 3-5 today with rbi.
Great job by Snell 80 pitches 1 hit 8K’s looks like he’s thru so Luke Jackson can close it out lol 😂
Wade Jr. with hit off LHP. Nothing against Melvin trying to get Flores going, but Wade Jr. if healthy is every day player. Left in vs. more lefties I think he’d do fine.
Very scary.
“Dustin May underwent surgery to repair a torn esophagus earlier this week and will not pitch in 2024.
According to a statement from the Dodgers, May was at dinner Wednesday when he felt “sudden pain in his esophagus and stomach.” It continued after he returned home so he contact the team’s medical staff and immediately underwent surgery.”
Probably trying to get a few AB’s for Flores hoping to get his average up some before they trade him for an A prospect..Dumping both Flores &Jackson should be a no brainer with this dumb brain trust organization..
bottom of the fucki g line up walks are not smart.
Goddamit Doval I’m ready to have Walker the closer and trade your butt for a high prospect are 2?
bad bad bad
well wisely fucked that up. Esp if they score this run.
Another hanging slider to guy with OPS barely above .600. Haven’t changed mind about Doval one iota. as Kuip says, “Outta here.”
Yep they’re you go Doval gives up the double to tie it up And Snell’s brilliant effort is wasted!!
just telling my son, Bailey calls way too many sliders with Doval.
Better walk this off
I’m sick of the damn ghost runners
win this fucking game
This was almost a haiku.
I fixed it
Ova!
little league home run!
Cut off guy airmails throw into dugout lol
Wow now another new way for a Giants win unbelievable Yaz 3 bagger and a throw into the dugout for a Yazoff
The long ‘ol All Star break starts. Bummer.
First round pick from Florida State.
Giants select Mr. Tibbs in the draft. OFer.
7 strong for Mach Schnell. Maybe he is coming around.
They call me Mr.Tibbs, well James Tibbs anyway Florida St OF LH hitter batted .363 28 HR’s 95 RBI’s last year and everyear in the past 3 all his stats are better especially lower K’rate higher walks OBP we’re solid too.Feels like a Buster Posey influence pick?
Dropping in the draft is Cam Caminetti ( a relative of former big leaguer Ken) though maybe the Giants might of been interested in.Glad they passed now as he keeps sliding down the board..
I didn’t know the NCAA gives a Best Catcher of the Year award called the Buster Posey award.
One crappy Webb outing prevents a 4-2 home stand and a better outlook on the last 65 games. At least for me.
An S.F. buddy finally convinced me to see a vintage baseball league game today:
https://www.bavbb.com
The gloves look like they’re meant for pruning roses.
Padres and DBax lost today too. Productive day all around.
The Indy Fever also defeated a Minnesota team, and is sitting comfortably in the 7th playoff spot at the moment.
The NY Liberty ended Chicago Reese’s double/double streak. She only had 8 points, time was running out, she got the ball near the basket, and the Liberty swarmed her with four defenders. The Liberty said: “You shan’t be extending that streak vs. us, Sunshine.”
