A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

K Avalanche

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 22, 2024

San Diego trip in the books, now off the Black Butte then Portland. Saw Birddog k’d 12 in 6 innings. Impressive. What’s not impressive is needing that to stave off getting swept by the shitty Rockies.

good ole Word Press Black Hole falling off the Flapp. Did you have a golf champ vs San Dawg??? Who is the Schauffele of that twosome??? Or a couple of Colin Montgomeries???

If Snell has a good start and if Cobb can get a couple before trade deadline, do we move one or both? Would Flappers be willing to even trade them to the Flodgers??? I think of the Flodgers delivered solid prospects, I would move one of them there.

Dogs have kid SP Raack going tonight and another one from farm tomorrow. Glasnow and maybe Opie for last 2. See how well pitching can hold up through 4 before Rox come back into Oracle and then 2 vs. A’s.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 22, 2024 at 10:08 am

Landon Knack. Pitched against Giants at Oracle, went 4.2 gave up just 1 run 7 Ks 5 hits 0 walks. Drafted 2020 still has rookie status.

MLB.com says LA using our old friend “TBD” to start tonight. apparently it’s call up River Ryan, who has made 8 minor league starts this season with ERA of 2.22 across 24 innings total.

  6. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 22, 2024 at 1:43 pm

River Ryan should be a interesting start originally drafted by the Padres but the Dogpile fleeced him for Matt Beaty a utility scrub.Ryan express has firepower a 98.5 2seamer 91.5 four seamer he will probably be on a short lease pitch count wise.Along with Knack Dogpile is going all in with youth along with Vets Glasglow&Kershaw who might be monitored as well both just coming back.I like are chances against Opie who has a lot of rust and just might break down again.

Looking at the Giants at the AS break last year and we were 11 games over .500 and in 1st WC spot.

Houston on June 10 was 30-38. Seattle was 38-30. 8 games up.

They are tied now. A lot can happen in a month.

And yeah, it’s the pitching. If Ray, Snell, and Birdie can pitch, then hey we can reel off some wins. Hairy Webby of course have to pull their own.

  8. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 22, 2024 at 2:10 pm

Not going blade and guaranteeing a win, but Tonight should be the best chance for SF to take one from LA. Giant killers Muncie and Mookie are out, and a first-ever MLB starter just called up for the Doghairs — vs. “Dodger Killer” Snell…

M’s called up ex Giant Jason Vosler from Tacoma in Coast League. putting up good numbers as he usually does, .883 OPS…which translates to 113 wRC+( 13% above league average) park adjusted. Comps on Giants for that stat would be Patrick Bailey and Yaz, both of whom have OPS about 100 points less. M’s now game back of Stros AL west battle.

One thing about Z he will dumpster dive till the very in .Giants pickup another scrub pitcher for cash in Michael Baughman a reliever..

In his make are break deadline for Z to save his job ( unlikely) he will buy and sell..

He’s pretty much toast after 1 winning season in 6! Giants should go after Kim Ng who turned around the Marlins to an 84-78 record before the stupid orq wanted to restructure her power and she said stick it..Very talented woman would make a good GM ..

AK, I don’t think the Giants (NY or SF) have ever fired a GM or President of Baseball Operations (Zaidi’s title) prior to the expiration of their contract, and Zaidi’s 3 year contract does not expire until the end of 2026.

Knowing Pee Wee Johnson, he’s too tight to fire anyone before their contract runs out.

Tom Haller (GM) got let go late September before end of 1985 season when Giants lost 100. per his sabr page “Team was 56-88 at the time of his dismissal.”

Giants have 4 younger guys in starting lineup tonight—Bailey Wisely Fitz and Ramos plus Wade Jr. Lee will be back next season. It’s new group post BC.

2 games out of 3 last series SPs were Harrison and Birdsong and there’s more younger guys (Miller Walker Rodriguez) in pen. As long as above don’t crater over last 60 I think Z is probably safe. The yutes have arrived and maybe more on the way. Cue up Robert Cray’s “New Blood.”

As Loo said before, the SABR bios on B/R are really fun to read. didn’t realize Haller played QB for Illini in Big Ten in addition to baseball. After he signed with Giants and left before senior year, he gave part of the money back to the school. and in off seasons later went back and got his degree.

I agree with Blade that Mauer getting in the Hall of Fame makes Buster a slamdunk to get in. Maybe not on the first ballot, but he’ll get in.

And it’s generally gotten easier to get into the Hall of Fame. The younger sportswriter voters are more willing to go outside the stat box.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 22, 2024 at 8:06 pm

It’s a procedural move. he is allowed to pitch one of the games in DH vs. Rox. Then he has to go back down to Sac and yes, rest for 15 days. Helps save spot for Ray and Cobb. calm down his season isn’t over but they are going to limit innings.

IDK why you call for another fastball lower thigh high down the middle to Hernandez in the bottom of the 8th on a 2-2 count with a RISP. He’s been the only dude hot for LA all game. What about a slider down and out? 2 of ’em. If you walk him, you’re still OK. I guess Bailey called for it, but sheezus, that was a hit me fastball after a couple of prior fastballs — so he was on the speed of it. I just don’t get calls like that, calls that lose the game…

    • Michael Dikas's avatar Michael Dikas said, on July 22, 2024 at 11:02 pm

Totally agree with Snarkk…I think the calls come from the dugout…either way, a brain-dead call after 4 fastballs to an All-Star…also don’t see why the play at 2nd wasn’t sliding interference…video obviously showed the fielder was hit by the slider…isn’t that the basis of the rule? or is their subjectivity as to the “severity” of the interference…calls have to be black or white…Giants should be at least 5 games over .500…they have squandered 3 Blake Snell starts…he’s becoming a Matt Cain…

  74. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 23, 2024 at 7:45 am

Rodriguez was one with ball in his hands. No reason to throw anything to T Hernandez near the plate. He had 3 hits, entire rest of lineup 3-25, one of those critical “double” from K Hernandez that should have been caught.

Smith Ohtani and Freeman 0-9 and Giants handled them just fine. Bottom of Dogs lineup sucks, plain and simple. Giants have better hitting IF, and Conforto and Yaz having better seasons than Pages and Vargas (and Heyward), other 2 guys in OF. Frustrating game to lose.
