Farhan Fails Again

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 30, 2024

Zaidi dumping Soler and Jackson for cash is so typical. He doesn’t have the first clue how to trade at the deadline. Now here comes the ol’ “we don’t know what he was offered” bullshit. How is it that every single deadline he does shit and we just fall back on that lame excuse? Other GM’s seem to be able to make exciting trades. Why not this fuck?

Reading & listening to the pundits and the universal opinion is this was a good trade for the braves. “He took a little while to get adjusted to SF and the west coast but over the last 2 weeks slugging over 1000%. Braves were in desperate need of an OF and gave up a injured pitcher and a low level guy not labeled a prospect by the Braves” GRR

In other words a salary dump of Farhan mistakes that very likely do nothing to improve the team now or in future…

Cobb was never going to pitch here again any way it’s an easy move to get rid of more useless players.Birdsong absolutely needs to move into this rotation. Yeah screw Farhan he’s never been in to ANY significant trades at the deadline unless you think Kris Bryant was which of course didn’t pan out either as a rental..

Morocco Mole needs to go He’s not an aggressive GM at all and he proves it, in 6 years of BS futility. All he does is dump bottom feeders which he brought in for payroll instead of going after a legit bat.So sick of this cartoon character..

    The Clark-less effect:

Of all the first round Olympic women’s basketball games, the US game was by far the lowest attended, only drawing about 1/2 the number of the highest attended games. The game wasn’t even broadcast on NBC, but appeared on alternate platforms. I watched it on the USA network.

Speaking of Clark, she’s having a good time at a Mexican beach resort, having a nice vacation.

    I will say this.

If Farhan does not trade Snell now, and the most likely scenario happens of Giants miss the post season and Snell walks with nothing in return to SF, Farhan should be fired as a failed GM. He still has an hour and a half to get it done. I don’t care what we don’t know is being offered him, we’re not paid like he is to evaluate offers. That’s a lame excuse for inaction. He’s paid to make deals to improve the team, not just to fix his mistakes. If we DID know, maybe the outrage would be even stronger because of the deals he rejected…

  12. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2024 at 1:47 pm

Birdsong fell into the Giants lap as being ready to pitch at the MLB level now, way earlier and way better than they expected. That’s the plus. So, Cobb had to go to get Birdie into the rotation, and of course the Giants get squat for Cobb in return because he hasn’t done dick this season to prove himself. Without a Snell trade, I can hardly wait for ESPN to rate all 30 teams for their deadline trade activity…

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2024 at 1:47 pm

Gaaaaaaah. Don’t mind the salary dump if it means we do something like trade for Vladdy Jr.

Otherwise, it’s just moving deck chairs around and correcting mistakes. Funny thing is, Soler finally looked like he was getting comfortable here.

So, we got an injured pitcher, Atl’s 17th ranked IFer prospect, and a low-rated 19 year old kid for 2 starters.

A Jimmer Fredette sighting?! Who’da thunk it! He was an epic fail in the NBA (drafted by the Kings, yikes), but he’s a member of the US men’s 3×3 basketball team. Yes, half-court basketball is an Olympic event. The full roster is four players:

Jimmer Fredette, Dylan Travis, Kareem Maddox, and Canyon Barry.

Who? Is that a Rick Barry son in there?

They got a look at Bauman, didn’t like what they saw, dumped him off and Angels picked him up. No harm no foul. He didn’t cost them a game or anything and he’s outta here.

  22. willedav's avatar willedav said, on July 30, 2024 at 3:01 pm

Unless Z can get someone to help immediately, as in within a year, nothing wrong with holding onto Snell. If teams don’t want to pony up appropriate value for top end SP, their problem/their loss. He’s been great lately but non factor, in fact negative one, for first 3 months when they were shorthanded with other injuries and down to 1.5 SPs. Let him go test FA all over again if that’s what he wants.

I’d be fine watching him atop rotation for rest of the season. giants appear dang near set for next year without him and don’t have to pay him (beyond bonus already agreed upon) next year and beyond.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2024 at 3:18 pm

Well, we certainly didn’t do that. All we did was dump salary and get some guys who will never sniff a cup of coffee. The Braves and Gaurdicles got better off our deals.

The women’s gold medal rugby match was good fun. Not a shock that New Zealand was the winning team.

I understand almost nothing about rugby, but I can see now where the word “touchdown” came from. In rugby the player crossing the goal line has to touch the ball to the ground for the goal to be scored.

  32. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 30, 2024 at 3:25 pm

So if I recall correctly, because Snell rejected a qualifying offer from the Padres, the Giants lost their third-round Draft pick in 2024, as well as $500,000 from their international bonus pool. Note: San Francisco had already forfeited its second-round pick after signing Matt Chapman, who also declined a qualifying offer.

Coupled with the aforementioned – as snarkk noted – we will likely lose Snell next season due to the opt out he has. Consequently, he is essentially a 1/3 season rental for $32 million. Zaidi better get that wild card spot!

I guess the attitude of Zaidi is that “He Wants His Cake and Eat It Too”*

*Meaning: This idiom means someone wants to have two incompatible things at the same time. It implies greed or unrealistic expectations.

Canha, since May 1, hitting .211 in 64 games. However, he’s one year removed from posting a 108 OPS+ year with a .262/.355/.400 slash line. If the Giants can get that type of production out of him, it will work out with him in the lineup. “If” being the operative word.

  36. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on July 30, 2024 at 3:47 pm

    What did we do?

Squadoosh. Fucking Soler is better than Canha by any measure, even with Soler’s power outage the first 3 months. So naturally we get the hose from ATL saying “thanks for warming our guy up.”

  39. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on July 30, 2024 at 4:05 pm

This is why Zaidi was ONLY able to do these piss ant moves. He got fucked (again), by these complicated 2 year contracts, with an opt out. No one in their right mind is going to do a trade like that straight up, without being given compensation. The Giants are certainly getting upside with short-term deals, but they almost always work out better for the players, who can chase huge contracts if they succeed or just stay with the Giants if they do not.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on July 30, 2024 at 4:32 pm

With a bottom 1/3 farm system, the Giants always have no leverage with FAs and Farrhan seeks to fill positions that he should be filling from the farm. So, he ends up getting reamed by the FA’s agents in these one-way opt out deals — its heads I win, tails you lose.

These deadline “moves” were all just housekeeping moves. The kind of moves a team makes at the end of spring training to fill a couple small holes or jettison non-contributors. Nothing that makes the team better short-term or long-term. At a time when the team is still “in it”, especially with the starting rotation looking strong, the FO steps up and… apparently thinks that a little housekeeping was all that was needed. Can’t believe all that’s left to talk about is Canha. I’ll give Z credit for getting the rotation into shape, but he has fucked this team from top to bottom for too long. Overcome by injuries, the Braves have started to run out of steam. A sizable advantage in the wild-card race has shrunk. The once-fearsome offense looks much tamer these days. So the team opted to reunite with Jorge Soler and Luke Jackson, part of the midsummer infusion of talent that buoyed the club to a World Series in 2021. It’s a charming idea. But now Soler is under contract for two more seasons. He has not played the field this season. Neither has the team’s current designated hitter, Marcell Ozuna. Soler’s value tends to diminish when he plays the outfield. The Braves were willing to risk it. We’ll see how it goes. — AM

    San Francisco Giants

The Giants’ biggest acquisition at the deadline? That’s right, financial flexibility and internal improvements. Not a bad thing. They opened their DH spot for Marco Luciano, and they opened up payroll for someone who would fit the roster better than Jorge Soler would have. They have a five-man rotation they’re comfortable with, so they traded a starter (who hadn’t thrown a pitch this season) away for a teenage raffle ticket. They also traded away a young pitcher to get help, although Mark Canha has crossed over from “pretty good” to “won’t kill you” on the usefulness spectrum. He’ll play first against left-handers, a sign that Wilmer Flores’ knee injury might be worse than expected (or that the Giants will move on).

Still, they had the best starting pitcher available, at least in Theory Land, and there was a chance they were going to get a top-100 prospect. They did not. — GB
