A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Marching Onward

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 6, 2024

We let Washington off the hook several times last night. Shoulda smashed them 10-1. But it’s a good sign we still came out with a W. That team deserves to lose every game just due to that stupid shimy each hitter does when he gets to first base.

Hope Birddog knows how to pitch in the humidity…..

It’s deja vu (as in 1968) all over again. LaMonte Wade Jr. is batting .298, which would be 6th NL if he had enough ABs to qualify. Ohtani leads league-at .306, followed by Arraez at .305 and 3 guys (Profar Ozuna and K Marte) at .300 even. Pads rookie J Merrill is 10th at .283.

wtf? 1968 I was listening to Otis Redding and Sittin on the Dock of the Bay in HS.

Reading A’s-Sox game story, A’s got 5 runs on 4 hits, mostly because Sox pitchers walked 9 (in 8 innings) and hit a guy. One solo HR by Lawrence Butler who homered off Giants, #13. A’s per story in Chron drew almost 82 thou for weekend series with Dogs. Which obviously won’t ever happen again. Back to 4900 “announced” last night.

Must be a new generation of Dodger fans. They took over Yankee Stadium a few weeks ago and these folks ain’t local. You rarely see anyone here wearing anything but Yankee or Met gear. Maybe the days of arrive late and leave early are over out there…

HS buddy of mine was ChiSox fan and he loved Tommie Agee who was there before he became a Mets hero. Awesome bio on SABR page…didn’t realize there was Gil Hodges AL connection, nor all the “firsts” Agee racked up with Mets in Championship series, WS etc.

That’s quite a story Loo, Dogs fans showing up all the way in NYC. Yanks still draw well? We sure see legions of dang Dogs fans in blue at Oracle.

Yanks pack the place every night. Far out draw the Mets whose park is 100x better. And believe it or not tons of pretty girls there dressed to distract you from the game. The place is a nightmare to drive to if you’re crazy enough to try it. Good luck getting out of the parking garages in under an hour post game, but a pretty quick subway ride from midtown Manhattan.

iirc Bum liked pitching in hot weather and said he loosened up easier. Grew up in North Carolina, different weather especially summer than SF lol.

speaking of NC, hoping all “locos” in the area safe n sound from tropical storm.

Thanks, Willie. We are keeping an eye on how it’s tracking, but right now we’re all set for minor flooding. We’ve been getting a ton of rain already.

I still vividly remember Chi, Loo, Mac, San Dawg and I leaving our seats after the game. We had just completed singing, New York, New York with these hot women behind us . . . and then we left. It was a fucking “scrum” all the way to the outside of the stadium. Fairly certain, we said our goodbyes to Loo, Mac, and San Dawg near the wall of the stadium, as we had different subway trains to catch. Chi and I continued our “scrum” and “ant slow” movement to the subway train we had to catch. Complete, fucking pandemonium. It must have taken at least 45 minutes to an hour just to get to the subway train we had to catch. Total time from end of game to beddie bye at our Bronx hotel took almost 1.5 to 2 hours.

Giants lost that game, but that being said, it was probably the best losing baseball experience I’ve ever had. Had a blast with Mac, Loo, Chi, and San Dawg. Photo we took before the game outside the stadium is classic.

If Fitz can just continue to handle SS defensively that will be big plus going forward. throws sometimes sail on him but he’s making all the routine plays.

    • Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on August 6, 2024 at 11:45 am

Getting a chance to stick at one position should help. I think they had him play everything but catcher.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on August 6, 2024 at 2:56 pm

Good point. More I see it, less I value the flexibility of playing multiple positions.

My wife and I will be at the game Saturday if anyone else is going to be there! Can’t wait. Living in Socal makes it harder. I haven’t been to the stadium since the Playoff game in 21. Hopefully it will be a better result this time. I had to promise the wife I’d have fun and not be a pain in the ass if we lose! Added bonus Aloha shirt giveaway:)

Webb pitching so I’m calling a 5-1 victory!

Birdaland is from Illinois and pitched in college there so he’s used to the heat.

    Shouldn’t be a problem.

Still having problems really getting jazzed about this team as they lurch around the ,500 mark, but the kids are starting to really play better. Webbie has come around and Snell/Ray combo seems to finally be paying off.

As I work away my phone tells me Ramos just jacked one!!

6-4 in a shootout.. 9 days off didn’t help Birdsong tonight, lots of rust

well, there’s a lot of time left. Only down 2 is kinda lucky considering the fact Birddog had nothing tonight. Still don’t know how Abrams hit that ball out though.

    Nats 5-9 RISP

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on August 6, 2024 at 5:31 pm

  33. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on August 6, 2024 at 5:38 pm

How many fucking times can we leave guys on base? 1-10 with RISP and it;s the goddamn 5th inning. We should be up 6 runs.

    This is fucking disgusting.

  34. Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on August 6, 2024 at 5:39 pm

Rinse and repeat. Make it 1-11 RISP.

What a frustrating game. Over and over we ger RISP with 0 or 1 out and can’t get a hit. Nats (who are a bad team) get runners over most of the time, and get them in. Hard to not lose hope re winning enough to make the playoff’s:(
