Luckily Detroit got their nuts kicked in last night in the 9th inning and maybe they show up in SF a little bruised and worse for wear. And maybe our guys got some sleep on the ride home. One thing that better not happen: I don’t want to see that dumb motherfucker Doval within a country mile of a high leverage inning. I don’t give a shit about what kind of stuff he has. There’s something not right about him. You can just tell by looking at him that he’s not all-in sometimes.
And here’s the other thing. I don’t really follow closers but I scanned the list of them today and Doval’s WHIP of 1.61 is so far and away higher than any other closer it isn’t even close. I found a couple of guys at 1.41. Everyone else was hovering a little above or below 1.00. Enough already! Fuck this guy.

I have to say how excited I am to go to a game. I haven’t been since the 21 playoff game (We live in socal, our kids in Chicago so our weekend trips money often taken..
As a retirement gift to myself I told the wife we are going to a game. 10 days ago I booked us on a flight. We are flying up in am. Going to the game, and flying home that evening. A splurge! Turns out it is 2014 aloha shirt giveaway AND anniversary celebration of the 2014 WS team! I had no clue until flight booked and game tickets purchased! YAY!
Make sure you get there early . . . particularly since they are on a roll, i.e., a lot of these giveaways they only provide 1/2 to 2/3s the attendance. Consequently, you snooze, you lose. Surprised that the Giants have stuck with him so long this season, considering how bad he has been. Back in the day, Boch would switch a guy out in a proverbial nano second if the dude was not performing. He was very respectful about it, but still he would not stick with a closer that did not perform.
Bochy definitely had a faster hook than BoMel. Of course, he did not have to deal then with the 3-hitter rule for relievers. It’s hard to even guess what is going on with Dovall, he is not an English speaker to the media, so if you don’t speak Spanish, you can’t really even try much to assess anything he talks about. I don’t read the Athletic, does anybody in there have a take on what’s going on with him?

don’t forget, Doval rejected a 50 million dollar extension some time last year. What a major fuck up on his part and a massive dart we avoided. Fuck him in the 8th inning, he can fuck up the game just as badly there. I’d sit him for a week and let him work on his mechanics and if he comes back from that fucking up he sits the rest of the year except maybe for mop up duty.
I don’t believe in unilateral roster freezing, and give the other team a leg up on the active roster war. If he needs a mental break, IL him short term, and bring some other arm up. He can’t be exhausted, he’s not been used much in the last couple of weeks. He could be pissed about blowing the cash, but that’s his own fault. Closers are usually short timers in that position anyway — couple of years. Guys like Sutter, Gossage, Rivera, Hoffman, Fingers, Eck — those long time top guys are really rare…

Walker is clearly the best reliever on the staff, he’s been used as an opener and Melvin usually brings him first after the starter is taken out.
Without Estrada and Ahmed, Tyler Rogers is not a great 8th inning man.
In tie games, 9th inning, you want to save your best strikeout pitcher for the 10th.
You don’t bring your closer into a game when you have a huge lead, twice.
