A September to Remember?
I expect Birddog to shut down the woeful Tigers offense now that he’s back in the comfort of Karl the Fog and 60 degree weather. After today’s victory we will be knocking on the door of the 3rd and final wild card spot. With 42 games to play, destiny is in our hands, gents.
Pitching.
Other than Birds last game pitching from SPs and pen beside former closer has been very good, led by Webb and Snell at top. Chapman leading defense by example at 3b.
We’re already knocking on the door and ready to sledgehammer it down.1.5 out of the last spot with Mets and Atlanta both playing like they don’t want to get in.
And special thanks to the Braves prior to last night and that was a struggle 11-8 against the Rockies they had lost 6 straight games after picking up Mr.All world Leadoff hitter Jorge Soler&No Action Jackson, and now they come here for 4 to get there butts kicked( yep an Ass Kicking is coming I’m calling it.)There in the midst of basically a 12 game home trip( 2 in Oakland big deal) so there going to be the 3rd W/C team after this home stand..
Z gets a lot less criticism when we beat up on shitty teams…
usa.girls win again! Man can you imagine the post storm zum would have unleashed on the blog had they lost?
lulz. Taurasi never played minute in finals game. I’m amazed how physical FIBA game is even for men. guys are getting planted to floor off high ball screens and nothing gets called. No one fouls out even though you only get 5.
In Finals game Aja wilson got away with smacking French gal in head after swatting shot away. You could hear groans from crowd after replay. to their credit US did nail FTs down stretch.
USA women’s b-ball barely survives France team 67-66. Best player on floor was UConn guard Gabby Williams who banked in shot in last seconds just inside 3 for hosts who just missed pulling off upset. Really physical game-forget freedom of movement it was more like Riles 90s Knicks style and reffing. US was down 10 midway through 3rd quarter, missing inside and turning ball over 13 times in first half.
Coach will get lot of heat for rotation, as Ionescu sat first 25 minutes, but she and other reserves Kelsey Plum and Kahleah Copper all got going in second half and ultimately got it done.
No mention of Soler going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI?
The pitching better be nails because Atl isn’t gonna roll over like you guys seem to think they will.
No mention it was in Colorado?
As Flav said earlier, Canha over Soler, great deadline move to save $$. Atl has to be nuts to trade for 2 years of him when they already have Ozuna as DH. Z kept Snell and he’s been really good. Cobb finally started a game for Guards and went 4.2 allowed 9 hits 5 runs/4 earned 1 K . He’ll be 37 in October.
Yeah big deal about Soler getting in batting practice hits in Colorado..
He was 4-24 before the last 2 games and the Braves are 3-6 since the trade losing 6 straight before yesterday and add his liability of playing OF now( that’s the biggest laugh)but Ozuna can’t play out there cause he’s the DH and even worse if he knew what a glove is used for.Braves have one of the worst outfielders in baseball and only made it worst with Soler out there..
Mark Canha is are Marco Scutaro pickup at the deadline, just an experienced player and adds solid bat& leadership! Dumping Soler for Canha only a win win for Giants
SF is not exactly beating up other teams. Braves are coming off a long losing streak and still have the second best ERA in the NL. Plus they now have Soler joining Duvall to lay some of that ex-Giants hurt on us. I wouldn’t be unhappy with a split.
James, Unca and Loo are exactly right . . . We’ve been beating the crap out of POS teams. You’re supposed to do that if you are a so-called contender. Braves have had a bad stretch, but we still are looking up at them.
Also, insofar as I’m concerned, Zaidi is still so full of shit, he should have flush handles, instead of ears.
Teams like the Rox will win 60 games even if they lose 100–all bad teams will have their share of good days over course of 6 months. Nats took 2 of 3 from first place Brewers before Giants came to town, and Tigers took 2 of 3 on road from M’s before they came here, a team vying for first place in AL West. maybe Giants “should” beat these teams every time but baseball isn’t like that. Tigers already have won 55.
Just an FYI, Rox have won 2 of 3 from 68 win Cleveland, 61 win Boston, 65 win KC, and are 6-4 vs. 66 win San Diego. By your reasoning they should be 0-19? get a clue
The game yesterday was so fun! Cool to see all the 2014 players. Some like Petit got huge cheers, and a shout out in the video message Bochy did.
The Aloha shirts are cool. Blade I tried to get an extra shirt for you and the guy looked at me like I was some kinda moron:)
Webb looked good, but 5 guys hitting under .200 so he should. Need another win today!
No worries buddy! Thank you for trying!
Best part was Kuiper telling Mad Bum he needs to feel the loves from the fans for what he did for them. Huge cheers, longest lasting. He was thew last one introduced and carried the WS trophy out to a table. Then he threw 1st pitch to posey. Fun!
Atlanta Braves carry 7 outfielders on their 26 man roster, who does that in baseball but them?Thats how bad their outfield situation is..
And Soler playing RF at Oracle will be certainly entertaining as he will be heckled hard by the fans all series.
August 10 born day of bassist Chuck Israels, still alive at age 88. recorded lp with Coltrane and Cecil Taylor 1959 and with Herbie Hancock (recently in town for San Jose jazz fest) on My Point of View.
Instead of the original release with CT as leader, I have the reissue “Coltrane Time,” but Taylor’s the one who makes that album unique.
Going from my very (these days) fallible memory and no giving it a ‘Goog’, I had Coltrane Time, thought it to be the original release. With Kenny Dorham trumpet, correct? Cannot recall drummer … ? Dorham detested CT. What was original title?
I also have a CD called Hard Driving Jazz that credits Taylor as leader. I can imagine Dorham et al not being thrilled with the noise behind them!
Ah Yes! Remembering that title. Thanks! Guessing/recalling … Louis Hayes drums?
Yes!
Infinite thanks James, you have affirmed I’m not on the fast trak to dementia quite yet. Yay!
Honestly, I was reaching for the keyboard to look it up but showed some self-restraint for a change.

What’s your point Willie??? Read what I wrote, i.e., point out where I said we should beat teams “every time?” Seriously dude, you talk over everyone, but the “Giants can do no wrong” take is tiring. They have been a sub .500 team 80-90% of the season thus far. Fantastic that they are doing well, but your take that they are infallible is not true.
I don’t think Whitesox’s feel they have any good days at all and will be lucky to get to 40 wins..They make Casey Stengel’s 1962 Mets look like world beaters
No one is more tiring than doomers like yourself who ignore how many NL teams are in same boat as Giants are. If the shoe fits…
I call it the way I see it. Conversely, you see everything through “rose colored glasses.” Here’s a breakdown of the Giants’ win-loss records since Zaidi took over:
2023: 81-81
2019: 77-85
2020: 29-31 (COVID-shortened season)
2021: 107-55 (Franchise record for wins)
2022: 81-81
2023: 81-81
Basically, since he has taken over – no improvement over Sabes. I also would argue the team has significantly digressed since the phenomenal 2021 season (albeit, we will see how 2024 turns out). Me? I want him fired unless the Giants make the playoffs this season. Ask ANYONE HERE AND THEY WILL TELL YOU THE SAME.
Chapman is money 2RBI Single for the lead 2-1
Birdsong one meatball breaking pitch to leadoff hitter for a HR..
Montero wild,29 pitches out of him to end the first..
Geez 6 pitch feeble inning WTF zzzzz
Way to start it off, Conforto. Time for some runs.
Nice hit Chappy!
weird .. Gameday briefly posted balk scores Conforto from third, then it was removed without explanation..?? Wtf?
tigers had called time before the balk call.
fucking Bailey is sucking hard.
Thanks Unca! Yep Bailey sure has lost his Irish Cream allure lately.
But Beer League is looking better each time out there. He actually seems kinda ‘clutch’. What a revelation that could be for this team.
Bass, what happened is the catcher called TO to the 1st base umpire (I think). Consequently, the home plate umpire – after discussion with the 1st base ump – reversed his call.
Wow, a rarity! Thanks for the explanation Blade.
Yeah, he called time because the center fielder was out of position.
beer league is impressing the shit out of me.
Unca, I will try to find the scouting report/profile column about this dude when he got called up to the Marlins about a half-dozen years ago I think. Everyone was impressed with him. Just about everyone in the organization said he can’t miss. Dunno what happened to him in the intervening years, where he ends up playing in a Mexican baseball league.
Again, if I find the article, I will post it here.
Aye Lad! Me too!
Jerar, two out hitting.
his approach is excellent. All these doofs could learn from how he approaches ABs.
unlike Oh Schitt
Pinch hitting with Schmitt? Luciano, must be deep in someone’s doghouse.
They were going to put Schmitt in at second anyway. If you don’t play Luciano there, then it makes some sense to save him for later.
Fuck Schmitt he’s useless like a turd in a punch bowl!
Should have PH with Luciano, but it’s obvious Bomel has no confidence in him. And he’s the better hitter what a joke!
The Tigers don’t seem to gyrate and gesture after they hit a single. This is commendable.
Found it Unca . . . written in 2019.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/1053194/2019/06/29/prospect-spotlight-jerar-encarnacions-power-and-athleticism-a-rare-mix-the-marlins-value/
nice. Jerar’s opposite field approach on outside pitches is very commendable.
Schmitt is dead-pull every fucking time.
Playin’ for a run, although I think I’d rather see Late Nite swinging.
I thought that was a head-scratcher too, especially since Wade got a walk on 10 pitches in his previous AB.
Gotta love me some Luke Jackson right now. Way to give up 4 in 2/3 of an inning.
Yeah Loco between Jackson &Jiminez they blew an 8-2 lead by both getting hammered for 7 runs total are boy Luke the light saver not working anymore 4 earned runs on 4 hitsJiminez the other 3 earned runs on 4 hits S well..
Gotta love it Kat.
Chapman, gettin it started’
Shit.
gaaaaaaah!!!!
Giants have so much trouble scoring runs, and running the bags.
My gawd, WTF are they doing?
WTF?
how not to run the bases by the Giants.
wow. Just wow.
As usual the “contact play” is being blamed on the radio for the latest BR fuck up. How about a little common sense instead of a play from 1953?
Come on, Big Beer League Fly, RIGHT NOW!!!
Egad, the baserunning.
ugh
I don’t know if there’s stat for evaluating base running. If there is, the Giants must be near the bottom of it. A leadoff triple, followed by embarrassing failure. Ouch…
Giant players decided we will do something different with RISP and just hit into rundown outs to clear the bases..
somewhere Reuben Rivera is lauging
runner at 3rd no outs
runner at 2nd one out
runner at 1st two outs
no one scores
That was brutal. Now we have Schmitt leading off.
One pitch, one out.
Only the Giants.
Yep, if Miller called that the worst baserunning in the “History of the Game” by Riviera. Then these 2 bonehead run plays have to rank 2nd!!!
a Luciano sighting
The Giants outplayed the Giants today.
3 for 14 with RISP and no HRs ain’t good enough…
Oh, and deranged base running…
RISP 3-14 today ..2nd worst since the break at .192 only Whitesox’s at .179 the worst..
Soler, 4 dingers in last 3 games…
fuck that guy. everyone in Colorado does that.
He didn’t do that there while a Giant.
SF needs to get better with RISP with Atlanta coming in. Braves may be wounded, but they can still score some…
Giants catching is in a bad way. Joey Bart — 154 ABs, 10 Hrs, .857 OPS.
Giants catching corp right now is challenged, to say the least. I thought it was a bad move then to get rid of him. Murphy has disappeared still rehabbing or some shit, what a bust that was. Casali is just OK, can’t throw anybody out, hits like linguini, and now Bailey looks plays like he’s exhausted with 40+ games still to go. Nobody on the farm looks any better…
Giants already knew the Braves fucked up their game and would have been just a half game behind them, such a momentum buzzkill starting this series up.But as usual when you can’t hit with RISP,and run the bases like the kids on jr baseball field by the coke bottle you don’t deserve to win for sure..
Not sure the Birdman is a guy we want going for us down the stretch.
Agree John. I think he has too many innings on that arm this season and he has hit a wall.
It is flat insane to me a guy like Chapman makes such a stupid fucking play.
You could expect it from the rookies to make a dumb move on the bases, but we’re talking 2 Veterans Chapman &Canha on these plays..
Well the good news is Seattle is absolutely destroying the Mets 10-1 after 6 innings and the Braves loss so everyone stays at 61 wins but Giants still 1.5 back due to more games played..He’ll the Cards got closer too up to 60 wins and basically tied with Giants.
Birddog let us down big time today. I’m not gonna hold that against CHapman he’s been our best hitter this year.
Canha’s mistake prevented another RISP failure – veteran move!
