Yes we are going to get shut out from time to time. That was the wrong time for it though. Can’t keep ending up on the losing end of these type of game much longer. Atlanta has their sea legs now, we are going to have to start hitting the fucking ball or this season is going to go south quickly. We’ve now wasted 2 absolute gems by Snell recently that turned into losses because we suck at hitting.

Agree Flavor. As I said last night, I hate that fucking ghost runner rule, but we had our ghost runner too and I’ll let mrsprtdude take it from there:

You really have to wonder what the farms are teaching these guys. Our defense is poor, our baserunning is atrocious, and the hitting is the usual mess of k’s.
The idiotic base running is the most baffling thing. There are so many games we played as kids that had the same rules as baseball (softball, punchball, stickball, wiffleball, slapball etc.) that even if you didn’t have some LL or HS baseball coach, you learned the basics of the game. Why should a major league player need to be taught the most fundamental things?
Giants are fortunate that Mets, Cards (whom are ahead of them) all lost yesterday. Similarly, Cubs, and Pirates (whom are behind them) lost as well.
Only Cincy won. That being said, the ONLY team that matters are the Braves, which have that last Wild Card slot.

Giants did move into the #1 spot in baseball in futility, they now have the worst batting average in the second half with RISP/Ghost Runners at .179..Geez do they automatically go in Strikeout mode every fucking time these scenarios happen??
They had Chris Sale on the ropes in the 1st inning with that leadoff Fitz double/error play? Canha follows with a single to center and you hold your fastest player at 3rd? This is a team so mentally challenged to score and Williams holds him?and we all know the rest as usual they don’t score, which would of been the game winning hit,they don’t threaten again, they lose again, because they don’t have the “BALLS “to be aggressive and play with the big boys in critical games..
Mays would’ve ran right through Whitey Lockman’s stop sign at 3B and knocked Elston Howard into the 3rd row in ’62. Matty Alou wasn’t about to try that…
I looked in my shirt drawer this morning and found way under one pile the Flapalooza shirt “We Score, We win”. That was a great time.
Great game by Snell last night, but.
It underscores that you gotta score if you’re gonna win. Giants have been basically middle of MLB at scoring all season. Crapping the bed with RISP and no or 1 out has happened all season, whether by not executing at the plate, or horrendous base running — you can’t just say Sale was Sale last night and shrug.
Nothing happened at the deadline to change that, so scoring is unlikely to improve at this late date…
Last season 3 NL hitters (Arraez Acuna and Freeman) finished season over .330. This year only Arraez .303 and Osuna at .302 (who Snell made look silly first 2 times up) are over .300. Arraez is basically only singles hitter ala Rod Carew and he has lowest OB of his entire career.
2023 there were 5 NL hitters with OB over .400. Right now, none. OB leader is Profar at .395.
Last year 10 NL hitters over .500 in slugging. 2024 only 5 though few others are in .490s.
Last night Giants RH might have done something with Sale’s penchant for sliders on outer half, like taking them to RF, but didn’t happen. Yaz did line up middle for single and stole 2b but died there. Burrell and Viele have one helluva job.

Kat you are spot on. Why is there ZERO evaluation of our limitations? Why is it obvious to us that we don’t do well in those “clutch” situations and send the runner. Tip the scales to taking a solid chance with a fast runner. If the the throw / relay are perfect and he is thrown out more times than maybe they should be vs the other side of the coin where they fail MUCH more often when we “should” get the runner home with a hit. So annoying they don’t see it.

Your spot on like me on this.I don’t if Fitz got a bad jump, but it’s the 1st inning and the CF looking into the sun should of made the throw tougher.Fitz fastest Giant by far cannot hold up he needed to blaze home and force the issue and I bet he would of scored and Giants get the win 1-0 ! Pitcher like Sale you have to be aggressive as he proved later he couldn’t be touched like Snell.It was a tremendous pitching game but it never should have came down to the corny Ghost Runner BS!!
Really with the pitch clock time limit , which I think is great ( cutting atleast 1/2 hour off games minimum?) Why can’t baseball atleast eliminate ghost runners(cause the time that is saved during regular play)and play real baseball for 2 innings more then a ghost runner in the 12th when your benches are thin/out???

IMO you could do a more palatable and still interesting version of the ghost runner. In the 10th, ghost runner starts at 1B. In the 11th and 12th, ghost runner starts at 2nd. If it goes 13 or more, the ghost runner starts at 3rd…
Yeah, that’s a good idea. I’d go 10th none, 11th 1st base. 12th 2nd base. 13th 3rd base. That should do it. There should still be an opportunity to do it the right way.
Nah, if we really want to get fans to attend the games and not be bored out of their minds from watching extra inning games – let’s get really crazy. During the 7th inning stretch, each team has pre-selected a fan and they fight to the death . . . Winning team’s fan scores a run for their team that is only good during extra innings, i.e., the 10th inning. End of game.
Or, in an election year, each team flips a coin to decide if they select a Republican or Democrat fan (one who wins coin flip gets choice of party). Same scenario as above – fight to the death, but with more patriotism.
Minimally, I know Loo will go for this. Maybe Xoot and Unca too.
Blade, there are so many fights in the stands now – fueled more by the hope to go viral than by alcohol that I’d rather see the game return more to its former purity. I would lean more to Chuck’s version but I’d hold off the ghost runner for three innings…
Me too Loo – I was providing extreme “hyperbole” to show my disgust with this Commissioner and these lame rules. If the game could go back to 1967 rules, I would be ecstatic. Same thing regarding roster sizes, as I think we will NEVER see the type of pitching greatness that we did prior to the emphasis on “specialists.” Just my take.
