Tough Ones
Frustrating doesn’t even begin to cover my feelings about the last 3 games. All winnable, all losses. Bad time in the season for these type of bad penny games. Ray tonight. But who will hit?

Passed out from chronic sore back (lifting weights Monday, when it was sort of sore, so I shouldn’t have) and exhaustion (lack of sleep). Anyway, missed the last 2 innings . . . I guess I was lucky???
Yeah, “Brad Penny” games have been a thing. Melvin tried to hit away in 10th night before with Yaz (who had singled off Sale earlier) with bottom of lineup due up behind him and Iglesias strikes him out/Giants don’t score.
Last night Fitz is trying to bunt, and not only does it hit him (according to ump) for an out, play is not reviewable, and same thing happens. Hicks had good inning and Bailey did scorch one Braves CF made great catch on and he had single earlier to break up long stretch of futility. But they need these next 2 to regain season edge over Braves, in case that did matter later.
flip side is that the braves offense kinda sucks too. They scratch runs across tho when it’s needed and we don’t.
Good point. Ozuna struck out 4 times last night, last one by Hicks. Roupp shut them down for 2 innings. Night before too Braves struck out almost as many times as Giants did.
I think Braves were 1-10 with RISP. Their pitching is really good, #1 NL for ERA and runs/HRs. 40 year old Morton held Giants in check, argghh. Fried goes tomorrow. Webb and Ray have to hold them down.
I do remember the one Giants spring training game I saw this past February that Fitzgerald hit a grand salami. I had no clue who the kid was, but he looked kinda tall and thin and was hitting low in the LU, so I thought he must have just lucked into one. No, apparently not. The kid is now with Willie Mays stats for hitting home runs in rookie year ABs. Nobody saw this coming. That’s why you give youngsters a shot at playing extended periods — they may surprise you in a good way…
Season on the line the next 2 games. Hopefully we come through and make the last 6 weeks fun / agonizing:)
Be safe. I’m big on recovery time.
that was to Blade.
Thanks Willie. I should know better (trying to do my normal routine and/or fluffing off warning signs) . . . A buddy in Colorado told me the same thing last week.
Younger days, I could have gotten away with it. No more.
Also Willie, I want to apologize for the “over the top” criticisms toward you the other day. No excuses for that. Sorry. I was wrong.
Oh thanks, I understand. I overreact to lot of things and always have going back to Twinfan days. funny, someone in TA brought up 2011 Giants (trade deadline etc.), and it reminded me of arguing with Twin about his support for long past his prime Miguel Tejada.
Spring I was b-ball practice running around scrimmaging with 6th graders and felt Achilles tighten up. Uh, end of that drill.
All is right in the world.
500 is perfection.
Play the Kars 4 Kids jingle whenever Dave Flemming does play by play.
Build a retirement home on third base.
Have Farhan manage the team, Melvin do Larry Baer’s job, and make BF the GM.
Trade the Beer League guy and a couple of 1st round picks for Brandon Aiyuk.
tl/dr
Braves might have been 1-10 in RISP but that’s one better then the The Giants 0-10 again with their Sac Fly the game winner.Just so frustrating to continually watch the worse 2nd half RISP team in baseball continue this pathetic trend..
They had a chance to pass the Braves going into this series, now 3 1/2 back and HAVE to win the next 2.Taking the last 2 and the season series could be meaningful in a tie breaker scenario,so there’s that, but if they continue not to hit it won’t matter..
IHope you’re feeling better today Blade bad back pain/ spasms is never fun! I take Backaid Maximum Strength (yellow pill) I get on Amazon and they work real well…
Thank you kindly AK . . . Using this hot heat, portable massage doo hickey I bought on Amazon. Works amazingly well, but you should only use it once a day (at most twice – which I will probably do later this evening before bed). First choice of course, are A) Vietnamese lovely; B) Thailand lovely; or, C) Any SE Asian lovely.

That being said, I am going to look up the Backaid Max Strength yellow pills.
Agree Yogi, 3rd base needs to be retired, put a plague on the wall of shame saying “Here’s where base runners in scoring position come to die”
Meckler (LF) 3-5 drove in 6 with 2 triples for Sac in 11-7 W. Matos 0-4 1 SB was DH, Estrada 1-3 at 2b. McCray (CF) 3 BBs 1-2 scored twice and stole bag. Tristan Beck started 3 innings 1 unearned run 3 hits 1 BB 3 Ks on 48 pitches. Beck came to Giants from Braves in Melancon trade that keeps on giving. Maybe he can fill in for tired arm or two later on.
Does anyone have a “go to” site for daily SF attendance? Asking because it was like night and day yesterday versus Snell and Sale game the day before, i.e., not many in upper decks at all last night versus what looked like a packed house when Snell/Sale pitched.
Damn, if my memory is correct – it seems that the Sporting Green and Mercury use to give daily figures in the box scores. Now, it seems like a “State Secret” after checking a half dozen sites.
For first & second game vs Atl, MLB box score has attendance at 30,184 & 30,468 respectively. I’d think those are tickets sales and not actual spectators in seats which you are probably asking.
Has to be, as there were almost zero fans in the 2nd deck area last night. Thanks Bassbaldy.
yeah, it’s curious that the MLB attendance stat shows more attended last night than the Sale vs Snell game the night before — which is illogical. Whereas, your eye test proves the opposite.
Not sure when they made the switch, but attendance used to be butts in seats. They went with tickets sold at some point. Of course that number, especially now, is MUCH higher.
There were early 80’s games where the attendance was under 1000. I swear, one game it was like 875. Tuesday Houston game of some shit. Like watching the game in the grand canyon. You could hear a ton of the chatter between the players and umps and shit.
And are future 1B Bryce Eldridge is tearing the cover off the ball for High A Emerald.
Last 13 games he’s 20-47 with 3HR’s, 1Triple,4,Doubles&15 walks with OPS .962
Sure to move up to AA Richmond soon he’s a STUD!!
Yeah, got compression fractures on L-4 and L-5, and now the disc between them is nearly gone.
I’ve tried traction/stretching before and it was incredibly painful. Need to find a chiropractor. The last 3 were worthless.
Unca, do you have Kaiser? Not certain Kaiser in CA has alternative medicine as Colorado Kaiser has, as they are 2 essentially different entities. Anyway, my point is that Kaiser had both acupunture and massage available at their clinics and hospitals in Colorado. Very, very inexpensive too. Walk-ins were accepted. Not going to convince you not to see a chiropractor, but I will say most Western physicians do not recommend them. Anyway, my physician said the order of precedence was massage, acupuncture* and Western medicine (lol) for back issues – even a western trained physician like her recognized the limitations of Western medicine versus Eastern practitioners. You should also bounce this shit off of mrsprtdude – I swear by PTs, insofar as them working their magic after an injury and/or surgery.
*I know I mentioned this here before, but acupuncture (2 sessions at Kaiser) resolved chronic neck pain and a clicking sound (more painful and prominent in the morning) I had after rotator cuff surgery; where during months long PT, I think I favored my right injury side during workouts, causing left side neck pain.
Yeah, Kaiser recently added chiropractic and acupuncture. Problem is, I tried acupuncture and it didn’t really do anything. I tried about 6 sessions with nothing noticeable. Then I found a bunch of shitty chiropractors through their newtork.
The woman I used to go to moved her office about 40 miles away so I’m not too keen on going there anymore.
And she isn’t in-network. I could afford it when my wife was working but not now.
That’s good you gave it a shot. I may try it for my wrists, particularly the left one, which chronically hurts if I do push-ups. Ironically, the doctors say that my right wrist has more severe osteoarthritis. All of the aforementioned I can trace back to a specific incident 3 years ago, where I was struggling to replace the slide on a handgun, I had just taken apart and had finished cleaning/oiling.
Giants call up CF Grant McCray, send Luciano back to Sac.
whoa, thanks Mac. Per mlbtr, he’s starting in CF tonight. Just guessing but I think this is Melvin looking for D out there. And he wasn’t playing Luciano anyway.
Baffling that they are now jerking Luciano back and forth. He was supposed to cover for Soler. Canha can’t against RHP. And Luciano is doing fine against RHP.
Luciano might be better off playing LF at Sac. Estrada likely back soon and he’ll at least platoon at 2b for Giants w Wisely. Encarnacion might be guy in most danger. 3-21 and doesn’t hit RHP either. small sample size but only 2-13 at home with lot of groundouts after making noise with 3 XBHs and HR in 25 ABs on road. Conforto won’t be back so maybe one of them can compete for RH LF/DH spot next season.
They need to get rid of Schmitt and get Luciano back up here. Ridiculous how they hang on to guys who are burnt toast for way too long.
Agree on Schmit but when Estrada is ready to come back at 2b, Luciano doesn’t have anywhere to play unless he is part time DH for Encarnacion, right? Canha will stay as 1b back up and probably Wisely at 2b/SS too. Numbers game til September.
why I said he might be better off playing LF. Bishop isn’t hitting at Sac, and if Luciano could out hit Matos he’d have shot at making Giants next year.
Wasn’t good look Schmitt at 2b couldn’t stop that 3 hopper from D’Arnaud getting through the IF last night.
Nice of Farhan to continue jacking Luciano around. Right after Soler dumped, Farhan said Luciano would DH a lot. Maybe play some infield. Well, No and No. Maybe he looked not too energetic a couple of times, I dunno. I would not blame him much if he’s wondering what the hell the Giants want from him now or where he’s going, after 6+ years in the organization…
I think the NL started tracking attendance by tickets sold sometime in the 90s. I remember being at the Stick and trying to figure it out. I guess it became more of a revenue accounting issue than a visual one for MLB. With seat licenses, season ticket plans and revenue sharing, I guess it makes sense.
I think when Pac Bell opened there was something like 15,000 charter seat members. Not only was that revenue before the park was actually built, but that was guaranteed15,000 seats sold for every game even if the seat holder(s) didn’t show up. And that didn’t include full single season packages and other plans that were also sold.
That pitch to Ozuna Ray struck him out on is one Harrison has to have, and he has to put whatever it is (change or curve) right there at bottom of zone.
This is actually normal for Ray (he has a tendency to be wild and walk folks).
Well, let’s get ’em tomorrow!
Down 5 already, gonna be a long night.
Anyway, until I was so rudely interrupted by Harris, John – what are “charter seat members?” I mean did they make some sort of special donation towards building the stadium or something of that sort???
Yeah, we had 5 years to pay for our seat licenses before the park was built. Which was part of their business plan to self fund the ballpark. My two Club seats were 5 grand each and those were my seats as long as I bought the full season package each year or sold the license to someone else (which I did when I moved). Ownership of the seats reverted back to the Giants if you defaulted.
As much as that stadium was sold out back in the day, that would be quite a sweet deal. Shit, when they won their first Championship, I bet you could have doubled your money John (if you had stayed here a few more years).
DisarRay.
Jesus Ray !!!! 2 his bat men,2 walks for 1 run and now a Ball in the Cove by Harris for a Grandslam and BALLGAME!!! 5-0 39 shit pitches and now he’s gone.Unbelievable, Fucking A the Giants just continue to look like a steaming pile of shit. The whole BP gets emptied tonight to get hammered on as well..
Fitz it outta here.
Fitz does it again!
Snarkk alluded to how thin as a rail Fitz is. I agree, although I know he is tall and actually weighs between 180 and 190lbs. Dude just gets some wicked leverage on the ball, coupled with a good eye/reactions.
Unlike us being old farts with backs and hips issues,Fitzgerald is loose&limber with tremendous hip rotation and bat speed.Basically he’s Don Knotts (Barney Fife) when he says :”My whole body is a lethal weapon”
Exactly AK . . . Damn, it’s a bitch getting old.
Well Fitz tells Melvin I’m never bunting for you again!
1st pitch to Fitzgerald HR!! 5-1
No one here gets out alive…
I am the lizard king!
We can’t do anything…
Hah!!!!
just tuned in … ugh, this would be funny if it didn’t feel so damed tragic!!
BoMel needs to ask the umpire for a mulligan…
We can chip away at them and tie them by the time we get to the 9th . . . and attempt to KNOCK IN THAT GOD DAMN GHOST RUNNER! WE CAN DO IT!
Braves can continue to chip away too adding bombs off both are relievers as well..
7-1 isn’t this fun..
One thing interesting if that matters,Hjelle in 3.1 innings threw 38 pitches,Ray 0.2 innings threw 39 piches that’s how bad he sucked..
Should have been a ground rule double????
Did the umps fuck up?
Caution:
Debacle in progress…
Well, good night everyone . . .
Yaz out there throwing effer pitches sucks.
Yeah there’s mercy rule and then there’s Yaz pitching! My lord 49 mph floating Eephus garbage! And thankfully this nightmare and season is over..I’m ready for football to start up..
Shit. That sucked. Fitz and his leverage for a thin guy reminds me a lot of Trea Turner
Yer killing me, Loo!
Thankfully missed this one.
Like the Ty-D-Bowl man, we are swirling down the tubes.
This guy was the doctor in Caddyshack!!!!
