Taking A Break
I’ll keep putting up threads for you guys but I am tappin’ out on this season. My interest level is at an all time low anyway. And at some point you have to ask yourself, “why am I wasting my time on this?”

Just read the last few posts from last night. What happened to the “stellar pitching staff?” I cracked up about AK’s post regarding the Yaz eephus pitch, but AK’s eyes deceived him, as I read that Yaz’s fastball was 41, maybe 43 MPH . . . definitely not the 49MPH heater AK thought he saw.
The good news is that we have the putrid A’s and White Sox next after the Braves game today.
There is no guarantee the Giants will sweep those 5 games. It’ll be embarrassing if they lose one to the White Sox, but there’s no way I’d bet they won’t…
What a mess. At one point in middle of game both teams had 3 hits, but because all 3 of Braves ones were HRs score was 7-1. Yaz said no one else wanted to pitch but still. Schmitt used to close games for San Diego State…
Best news of day I read that US Mint will put La Reina Celia Cruz on quarter this year. her recording of hit “Quimbara” with Johnny Pacheco on Celia and Johnny for Vaya records 1974 is one of best salsa tunes ever done. Pianist Papo Lucca is fantastic as is rest of band. Few other great live versions she did much later on y/t.
weird to hear “no one else wanted to pitch.” I don’t know a single position player (who has pitched before) who wouldn’t jump at the chance to do that. Like I said, very weird. Guys live for that kind of shit.
Yeah it was in Chron game thread story this morning. Usually a thing too that hitters don’t take more than 3 pitches before swinging at anything.
Yeah, that’s peculiar. As you alluded to about Schmitt, I think most of these guys – because they were the best in their little league, high school and/or college, ALL pitched at one time or another. A guy that was a few years older than me (you might know him Willie), Bruce Kelch was the best I ever seen in my neighborhood growing up. Dude was playing street ball and made a fly ball catch . . . but an antenna hit him in his eye. Ruined his hitting. Devastating. Anyway, that guy was the best growing up in Sunnyvale, along with a dude named Danny Duran, whom got a “cup of coffee” in the MLB as a 1st baseman. All older than us other kids, but legends in our neighborhood.
Quote was “the OF volunteered to take the job ‘because no one else wanted to'” from Shayna Rubin in Chron.
Bunch of homos…
Every series (for the most part) has a relatively easy win for both teams. Great teams win 60%, the worst 40% right. The separator between the good and bad teams is who wins the one close one (or 2 close ones in a 4 game series)? How many times have the Giants been in a game where that 1 extra thing (a hit, a strikeout, and catch) where we were SOO close to winning? A lot! All teams do, and all teams lose some, but the .600 teams win the razor wire games a little bit more, and over 162 games that is the difference. SF has been that for a while now, losing more than the good teams. So disheartening.
In the Athletic…Ramos would have been playing sooner on other teams. A spring training cut. It took half the roster with injuries (per baggs) for him to get a chance. Also per baggs Fitz had a .700+ OPS last year and this year and it took 172 ABs of Ahmed and another slew of injuries to get him up. July 9th he hit a homer, and stole a base setting up the winning run in a game and didn’t play another game until July 29th.
6 years in and our farm system is 23rd. The same as it was before Farhan was hired. He also writes “if the fan base is confused about Luciano and hearing he will play DH and never playing only to be thrown in against Sale and the optioned how do you think he feels? Confused!
Chapman and Snell opt out, Ray opts in??? Maybe another year with Yaz and Conforto as our corner OF’s. Now I’m depressed:(
This! Not certain whom else said this (maybe snarkk, AK, and/or Unca), but is it any wonder that the rookies are confused most of the time, i.e., getting shuttled in and out of Sacramento? I think some of these guys might have been able to play, had they been given a decent chance and not yanked around psychologically like some type of YoYo.
I’d love to be psyched about football but I’m getting a bad penny feeling regarding the Niners amid the injuries and holdouts.
That’s what success brings. It’s hard to stay on top.
OTOH, it’s not that hard to stay mediocre. Ask Greg “break even” Johnson and his minion Farhan…
Thing is, the Niners front office is creating a lot of their own subterfuge.
#metoo
It does feel like the football gods are taking a dump on us.
the other thing about the niners, these SB losses are taking a toll. It takes me like the entire month of Feb to get over them.
I lost interest in this years Giants a few weeks ago. I will be hoping for a complete FO overhaul next season. If we break the bank on anyone next year it should overpaying the Guards scouting staff to jump ship.
Me too Winder, but I seriously doubt “smalls” Johnson will do something that earth shattering as fire Zaidi. Particularly since Zaidi has a contract through 2026. Even shit for brains Melvin will likely get a pass, as this is his first year.
Farhan is under massive fan attack on KNBR this morning.
Not a good sign. If this thing really craters, I don’t seem him surviving after 6 years, even though I think he’s got 2 years left on his latest deal…
The ultimate pisser to me was not even trying to get Soto. Fuck Yamamoto and Ohtani. Soto is a young guy who would be someone to build around. You look at the Braves, and for all their scuffling, have a monster team that just shows how to build and run an organization. They’ve got multiple guys that can just crush the ball and have a very solid pitching staff.
They come in hurt and sucking and just walk all over us. I still think the inactivity at the trade deadline hurt the team. The players are thinking, gee, we are at the bottom of the ever-expanding playoff race, and they do this? Canha? A platoon guy? Say what you will about Soler, but he at least demands respect as a hitter. And plays every day.
Yeah I think I was half asleep watching Yaz pitch, it was more like 39 mph( thought the speed gun lol just kept showing 49)ephous slop and no a player if people think will hit within the 1st 3 pitches when Yaz couldn’t reach the plate are 4 ft outside are not that stupid unless they want to swing at a one hopper in the dirt like Panda would..Yaz was pathetic, all over the place except where homeplate was located.Well he’s got an ERA of 18.00 on back of his bubble gum card to show..
I would rather have seen Catcher Curt Casali pitch , loosen up his arm for todays start.I’m sure he couldn’t have been worst and maybe hit high 70’s?Anyway it’s embarrassing for the game to even allow “Mercy Pitching” in games.Suck it up BP if you stink today just OWN IT..
Such a disappointment of a series, ( I got sucked in thinking the Giants could roll at home and do some damage, but after losing that last game to Tigers which could have kept them only half game back and still in it cause the Braves&Mets were playing like shit. But noooo the Giants fall apart and now there done!
Ownership (LOL) has basically said Farhan doesn’t make the playoffs he’s out yeah even with one year left with Moron Melvin as well.I’ll believe it if I see it.I’m not holding my breath that break even Greg will even do that..
Did the front office really say that?
i didn’t see it. How is it possible for a major league baseball player to throw pitches 39 miles per hour? And this guy is an outfield, he’s got an arm.
Appropriated this from an X post . . .
Let’s check in on the “best rotation in baseball” per Farhan Robbie Ray 7.31 ERA | 13 ER | 16 IP (last 4 starts) Birdsong 17.05 ERA | 12 ER | 6.1 IP (last 2 starts) Harrison 7.43 ERA | 11 ER | 13.1 IP (last 3 starts)
Yaz last night . . . We wish.

LMAOOOO Blade yeah The swings of the Giants with RISP!!
Congrats to Alex Cobb getting the win going 5.2 innings,1 ER, 3 hits, 2walks,3 K’s Yeah could of looked pretty good in are rotation right now.
Still say the Giants should of cleaned house last year and fired Morroco Mole(Farhan) and hired GM Kim Ng who then hires Steven Vogt (39) who’s more in touch with players just recently retired over dinosaur Melvin!!
Unbelievable great job by Vogt who’s MOY turning over a team underTito Francona ( great manager) but lost it last year 76-86 to now the best record in baseball 72-49? Yeah as BF has mentioned there stacked( but same stacked team underperformed last year)but you still have to go out and perform and Vogt had them Believing from day 1 not like Melvin could.
Would it have been difficult for Vogt here, probably in the beginning , but in the long run he’s more exciting to follow then Ejection Bob…
Weird thing is, Ozuna is Braves best hitter by far with 35 bombs .580 slugging and OPS of .950, and he’s now 3-14 with 9 Ks and without rbi in series.
First lead of the series!
That’s not a hit, FC and error. D’Arnaud catches that and Encarnacion is out.
Yeah, should’ve been E-2.
Come on how can you give McCray his first big league hit?DArnaud totally screwed up easy catch at the plate for a force out that should have been ruled an error.
WTF is that stupid video crew in NY doing?? Such an obvious out the Giants get screwed on!!
The ball is clearly in Schmitt’s glove and he’s on the bag, then just loss the ball on the exchange, and now there giving him an error to boot? Weird scoring day all around ..
OMG how cool was that back to back Jacks by Schmitt &Really the 1st major league legit by Grant McCray taking on the big part of the yard!! Congrats kid that was an epic moment!!
Here we go. Another brief respite from the vagaries of the Giants. .500!?! Took 2 months to get 2 games over .500 and 2 more to get 3 games over.
I am going to the game on Sunday at the Mausoleum courtesy of my daughters. They are coming out from Bozeman and we are all going.
Say my last goodbye to the site of many many many drug-induced frenzies and concerts back in the day, and a few baseball/football games thrown in as well.
Enjoy Chuck.
Nice to have feel good bounce back game. Webb shut Braves down, loud contact out of bottom of order and McCray gets real hit. One day at a time. 3 Days off coming up too starting tomorrow.
W is for Webb!
3 off days in next 11. Friday, then next Thursday after ChiSox leave, then following Monday after they leave Seattle.
Never liked Friday off days.
“longest 9 inning game in the pitch clock era” per cbs site in NY as A’s edge Mets 7-6, in 3 hours 45 minutes. A’s took 2 out of 3 there.
Wild game. Mets blew 5-0 lead after 3, and walked 11 batters on A’s team hitting .231. A’s threw 213 pitches to get through 9. Their closer Miller got a six out save.
Were not done yet ( man I am yo-yoing). We play A’s, Braves play the Angel’s, and Mets play the Marlins:(
But….The 1st series next week while we play the Chi Sox the Mets play the Orioles and the Braves play the Phillies. Tough games for them. Yes we need a lot of help but it’s still possible. We will sweep the ChiSox!
By Next Wed we will know if we are still realistically alive!
Sure, staying alive. Amazing to me that with 40 games left Dodgers are only 2 up on both DBax and Padres who have both been on fire over last 3 weeks.
⬆️⬆️⬆️So underrated and unappreciated. It’s a sin…
Didn’t realize it, but McCray’s dad Rodney was guy that crashed through OF fence at minor league game May 27 1991 in Portland chasing HR, “…taking out a panel of the yellow plywood Flav-R-Pac sign…” Baggs had story and vid in TA just now.
Luciano at SS in Sac tonight , 0-4 w 2Ks. Meckler RF 2-4, Matos 0-4 in CF. Sabol C has HR, hitting.234.
