Six and half games out of the final wild card spot. Is it white flag time gents? Are we really not going to get meaningful games in September?

Yes we will! 4.5 back by Sunday afternoon! I’m often negative so I’m going the other way for the weekend!

In today’s baseball, being out by September is serious sucking. Sure, they could go on a run, but it better happen soon. All about the slumbering bats.

Be interesting to see if any contender picks up Taylor Rogers (Brisbee suggests Giants asked him if he’d be OK with being waived to have chance at this) before Sept 1 for him to be playoff eligible. 2 years ago at deadline Brewers traded away Hader for him and Rogers blew up, giving up 6 HRs and .500 slugging against in 24 outings. Think he’s owed $12 million for next year.

Probably lot less likely anyone snags Estrada and SF non tenders him in off season, per beat writers.

Cutting that payroll with a butcher knife. Hard not to think that this team has become a tax dodge for a bunch of elite real estate wonks.

It isn’t gonna get better any time soon.

I don’t see how this team improves a lot next season. If it can’t make a watered down wild card scenario, and won’t strip down to the studs for an organizational make-over, pretty much .500 looks to be the goal as far as the eye can see…

Lotsa teams put guys on waivers before the Sept 1 cutoff, usually teams that are out of it. The lefty Rogers brother is understandable, his usual MO is to give up runs that end up on somebody else’s ERA. In the offseason, time for the other brother to get the boot, I’m not bothering to look at his contract situation. As for Thairo, I guess he’s been hurt too much, and when he’s in, swinging at crap too much — although that appears to be a common team ailment. Pat the Bat and his assistants clearly will be let go in the offseason, regardless of who is in the FO. Always have to kick out the hitting coaches to start the scape-goating for a less than stellar season…

No SF hits through 4 frames.

Wow, September is going to be brutal…

Giants team psyche going belly up now, with the waiver news?

They need to get a hit today, a no-hitter will look horrible…

Well, he did use the word plethora today. (I’ll bet Chuck’s ears tingled.) He’s still got game. Goofier than Kuiper, though his mispronunciations are less entertaining. (Bansky the other night, corrected by Flemm, doesn’t approach Kuip’s inability to enunciate the t in Peanuts Bobblehead all game long.) I find I really don’t much care who narrates Giants tv games now. Hunter’s fine.

Giants had one foot on the plane all game.

2 early hits, one base runner (Chapman) achieved scoring position.

    2:14 of barely a pulse …

This afternoon, Aiyuk signed with the Niners…

    Bob Melvin, after the game:

“It looked like an awful game for us.”

    “Those plays look bad.”

    “It looked bad.”

“It ended up being a bad road trip.”

Seems he has landed on one operative word to sum it all up.

I’m still kind of shaking my head at this team putting its starting 2Bman on waivers at this point of the season. Says a lot. What say you, BoMel? Is it… bad?

The word is out, you’re doin’ it wrong, ah
Gon’ lock you up before too long, ah
Your lyin’ eyes gon’ tell you right, ah
So listen up, don’t make a fight, ah
Your talk is cheap, you’re not a man, ah
You’re throwin’ stones to hide your hands

Well, they say the sky’s the limit
And to me that’s really true, ah
But, my friend, you have seen nothin’
Just wait ’til I get through

Because we’re bad, we’re bad, shamone (bad, bad, really, really bad)
You know we’re bad, we’re bad (bad, bad)
You know it (really, really bad)
You know we’re bad, we’re bad (bad, bad)
You know it, you know (really, really bad)
And the whole world has to answer right now
Just to tell you once again
    Who’s bad?

Thinking back on 2010, at the end of August, Giants were something like 6-1/2 games out of the division (Padres). Remember a Bochy interview at that time when he basically said they probably wouldn’t win the division, so they shifted their thinking toward getting in as a WC. I don’t remember how far out of the WC they were at that time, maybe a few games? Then September happened, G’s played well and Padres lost 10 in a row, and suddenly the division was in play. Anything can happen in September. Unfortunately, the G’s look like they are trending down, not up. Up to the players to not allow this thing to get u-g-l-y…..
