Opening Game Statement
Exciting Niner game and fulfilling win. Hope that’s the last game I have to watch on streameast. I don’t mind it but the TV is better than my laptop. Streameast is great for The Red Zone. Giants still playing?

The D stopped Jets on first 2 possessions w 3 and out and the punch out fumble recovery caused by Warner. After Rodgers led them on scoring drive, Jets led 7-3. Next 2 drives Jets again went 3 n out on both gaining 5 yards total. time of possession at half was 18-12 .
Second half opened with a 7 minute drive followed by tip drill int that led to another field goal. At that point D had allowed 0 points while Niners had scored 23 in a row. Someone is mad?
Rodgers followed with 2 great passes, the first down left sideline and the second down middle on the free play when Niners jumped offside and 2 guys got beat deep. Perfect throw Jets score. But that was it til garbage time.
Rodgers can still do some things lot better than many QBs but this wasn’t a game very long.
It’s the Jets. They aren’t very good on offense. One sack against their line?
This isn’t gonna fly against better teams.
You can’t give up less points than zero, which is what D allowed on 5 of first 6 possessions. I can see being disappointed in all the FGs, conservative Kyle and some bad decisions and misses by Purdy but not with another new DC in his first game and some new players out there.
Yes I can. This defense playing this way would lose to KC again. And GB. And Detroit.
Oh shoot, Ed Kranepool dead at age 79. MLB debut September 1962 with Mets. He and Cleon Jones were last of the originals still around.
Willie, I know Jay Hook is alive from 62, possibly a couple others, not sure and I don’t think Cleon was a ’62 Met. Kranepool’s been really sick for years…
mm thanks Loo. Story I read in Chron quoted Cleon who said he’d spoken with Kranepool a week agon and “we talked about how we were the last 2 originals who signed with the Mets” so I guess he was wrong. Jay Hook started bunch of games for them that first year, right? There were ton of players on that roster iirc. have to look that up.
Yes Loo you’re right Jay Hook is still alive at age 87. SABR bio of Kranepool is amazing never realized all he went through just to get to back MLB after 62, and the years after 69.
You’re also right about Cleon Jones not being on 62 Mets roster. ML debut listed as September 1963.
I thought Cleon Jones was one of the original Mets. That’s way deep in the memory banks tho. My first mitt as a kid was Rusty Staub and with Mays going to the Mets in 72 I got into the Mets.
He was drafted in 1962. Guess he never got called up till 63.
RIP Ed Kanepool. The Miracle Mets!
I might have been the only person in NY rooting against the ’69 Mets. I was so friggin jealous. They wrapped it up on a weekday afternoon and I had to close the window in my little room to try not to hear the firecrackers and people banging pots together outside…
Watching Mason was fun. I’m sure he ruined some of his night getting his ass chewed by Shanahan or Lynch after the game though. Niners waited until a few hours before the game to announce CMC was out. Mason kicked ass. Game of his life. Post game interview the reporter asked when he knew he would start and he said Friday. OPPS
Fantasy players all over the world WTF??
Hopefully NFL won’t fine them for messing with the injury rules
I assume the Niners tell the players to never talk about injuries and personnel moves. This is why …
That’s true of every team.
All he has to say is ‘they told me I might start on monday.’
Shanahan said they told him to be ready to play, a lot, nothing about starting.
well that’s what shanny says NOW. Of course he had to clean up Mason’s mess. But whatever, Mason doesn’t know how to handle those press questions I’m not gonna hold that against him
Ha, exactly Flav.
checking out fangraphs column on Francisco Lindor, who did not have OPS above .700 until June 5 but has since exploded, they list top NL position player WAR guys since June 1.
Chapman is 6th, Fitz 9th. Brewers J Chourio is 5th, Adames 11th. Lindor’s teammate Mark Vientos is 15th. Couple DBax in there as well: Ketel Marte 4th Corbin Carroll 7th E Suarez 9th.
Lindor is #1, Ohtani 2nd. If I had an MVP vote I’d give it to Lindor without question. Ohtani is the Most Valuable DH, no more. He hasn’t played one inning of defense all year.
like that matters
Lindor has played 143 games at SS, one of most demanding positions beside C. He’s handled over 500 chances defensively. Ohtani hits and can go chill in clubhouse.
funny enough, while Ohtani got off to great start and Lindor did not, since July 28 Ohtani is hitting .221 with OB of .287. Lindor is hitting .311 with OB of .358 and near equal slugging pct., .537 vs. .545.
The WAR calculation penalizes DH’s for not playing D. If Ohtani goes 50/50 and as is likely the bums win the division, he’d be impossible to beat.
it’s amazing how paranoid the NFL is about that kind of stuff.
betting lines and all.
Anyone see the little story about Z and BoMel actually being signed only thru next year, not 2026 as originally reported? That’s interesting…. I saw the story and now can’t find it…
Missed it. Does either party have options for ’26?
I don’t know if it was even true, there was an article and then there wasn’t. Haha, I thought about that; wonder if the team put in an opt-out and Z wasn’t aware of it… 🙂 If it is true, then that means we probably won’t be seeing Z get fired, if it’s only going to be for one more year….
First there is a mountain,
Then there is no mountain,
Then there is!
Yes Paul, it was in SF Chron as reported by John Shea, “according to industry sources”. Giants “did not release terms of Melvin’s deal in its October news release announcing his contract.”
I’ve changed my mind on Fitzgerald. I’m not a fan anymore.
I’ve liked him but he acted like a dick after that stoopid play with Luciano…
I agree, Paul. That’s what started me looking at the guy. Loved the HRs and that it looked good when they finally gave him a position, but now I think he’s an ass. Probably will be next year’s Villar hitting wise too, IMO trade him.
Yes he did. If he hadn’t said anymore than he shouldn’t have been there in first place it would have been fine.
Roupp got through 5 and only allowed 1 hit and no runs after rough start. Good for him.

Thanks, John…
Taylor Rogers showing why nobody picked him up on waivers…
This applies to both Farhan and MoTel.

Easy on Fitz. A young guy. Nobody was saying get rid of Clark or Kent when they acted like dicks.
Niners were going to trade AB and were finalizing it on the phone. Shanahan literally ran through the building to tell Lynch (presumably) to hang up and give BA to the end of that days practice to sign the contract. Crazy.
Sorry, I disagree on Fitzgerald. I don’t recall Clark or Kent laying blame on a teammate when they botched a play. I know I don’t know all the facts, but to me it came across as Fitzgerald trying to show up a teammate on that play.
Having fine year at the plate though K rate little high. The mental mistakes are more glaring, like throwing to wrong base in rundown play last week and not chasing the ball after you caused 2 run error on pop up. Message has to be this part of his game has to be cleaned up.
This entire team, from single A on up is pretty much a joke. Bailey is about the only guy in the system that isn’t clueless on the basepaths or dumbfounded about when and how to bunt.
Totally missed what happened with Fitz. He throw Luciano under the old bus?
2 outs in 7th Sunday, Giants up 7-4 runners on 2nd and 3rd. Popup hit to Luciano that Fitz chased from SS position, then Fitz crashed into him and ball dropped glove and both runners scored. Fitz took blame then claimed he never heard Luciano call it. Then Williams had to separate them in dugout.
To me, the biggest *WTF* about that whole play was how both Fitz and Luciano just stood there after the ball dropped, completely ignoring or forgetting that, hello! the play is still continuing, you morons…. As others have stated eloquently here, these young’uns don’t seem to be well coached, there’s a lack of focus and no sense of where they are during any given moment on the field.
Roll out the barrel, Gone.
Non-game related, but does anyone read Baggarly on The Athletic? I can’t see it, but saw a synopsis of an interview he did with Melvin. Revealed that BoMel and FO are not all that in synch, with Melvin bemoaning that maybe he has relied more on analytics than he, as an ‘old school’ manager, should be…
Yes. He’s taking season very hard.
And takes full blame for at times not trusting his gut and instead relying more on analytics as favored from above while wearing the record of where the Giants sit. Melvin had Padres winning 89 games in his first season there 2 years ago and knocking off 111 win Dodgers and 100 win Mets in playoffs. 2023 they won 82, there was talk of meddling from GM he didn’t get along with, and he walked away to come back to Bay Area.
Giants are fired up.
Fireworks going off tonight at the O.
I have hard time placing blame or credit on manager and coaching staff for what has gone on, right or wrong, on the field this year for Giants. Injuries to Lee and pitchers and under performance from key vet hitters wound up being too much for younger players to overcome. There is still a talent difference that shows up on road vs. better teams, while Giants are competitive 40 win team at home.
Fitz made some mistakes early in season, including getting picked off 1b and making couple errors–imo those are 100% on him. After he got picked off Melvin sat him on bench for a week and then Giants sent him down.
He returns, bat explodes, giants wind up handing him SS job instead of moving around diamond, and he flourishes. Both things that happened in Sunday game, the error and lack of focus to go get the ball that Matos wound up recovering are on him. He had no business going where he did and not looking around to see where Luciano was. Any coaching comes in after that, not before.
Come on, Willie. YOU coach! If you saw your kids move on from your tutelage making these boneheaded mistakes all over the place, what would you think?
10-1 in the 4th. This is nuts.
Wild night. If Giants can’t get power RH 1b bat, I could live with Wade Jr. and Encarnacion over there. spend what you save on top end SP (save $30 mil alone on Snell if he opts out) and put in offer sheet for Santander.
