Yikes. Glad we are not still in the race or last night might have pissed me off a little. Nice job by Birddog pitching 5 strong.

13 runs to 0. Yep. sounds about right.

Giants were out of the W/C race once they lost 3 of 4 to Atlanta at home following not getting the sweep of the lowly Tigers the game before. They were right there with some soft games going forward and they folded like a cheap suit.

Giants obviously have no confidence in Luciano playing SS at all for a few innings. After Fitzgerald left game with a tight back they shifted Wisely to SS and left Luciano at 2B.It’s sad to say but their top international prospect looks to have no future left here.

Krukow this morning on KNBR pulled out the tired “bad mechanics” excuse for Dovall for last nights implosion. Whatever. At least Kruk said at this point, until he gets it together, Dovall should not get anywhere near late innings in a close game…

So glad they didn’t sign him to a big deal. Doval’s been a disaster.

When I see Doval about to come in I instantly head to my alcohol cabinet to get my Skink ON…

When he called out the grounds crew to work on the mound before he pitched, I figured it wouldn’t go well — something’s going on in his head. And, then that meltdown happened. I don’t think it’s mechanics, the guy needs a sports shrink. You can’t have a closer with his brain fried. We had that with Benitez way back when…

Unbelievable Farhan didn’t trade Dovall at the deadline. They had to know he was cratering. What, only a short time later they sent him down, for Kreisakes. That destroyed any future value, even if they put him on waivers. Now, he’s cratering again. His only value is get his mind right in the offseason and come back to earn a spot. Unless it’s so bad they just cut him. Gross personnel mismanagement …

Yes, Birdie was the only good thing for the future inside another night of offensive futility…

Reading about Vikes ahead of Niners game Sunday…no one has heard from Stix lately?

“Turns out holding kids out of school was a monumentally bad move for all involved. Did more damage to children than the COVID threat did.”

But that’s just massively unfair second-guessing, given that so little was know of Covid by the medical scientists at that time. What was absolutely clear was that it was the worst pandemic in 100 years, killing thousands on a daily basis.

And it was not a bad move for all involved. We’ll never know how many lives were saved, especially adults, by students not passing Covid around, when there was no vaccine yet. Adult relatives of the students, and the staff at schools. I know a lot of people eventually decided that teachers should die with their boots on, while there was still no vaccine yet, but for teachers and other school staff members everywhere, it was nice not to die of Covid that year.

And technically it wasn’t holding students out of school. The online thing was done the best it could be done, until a vaccine was available.

When schools finally shut down in-person learning, many parents were already keeping their kids at home. Classrooms were less than half full at many schools across the nation, and numbers dropping daily.

“Not sure why you are concerned with Rodgers’ dating history.”

I’m pretty sure I have no concern about his dating history.

Well….he WAS dating Olivia Munn at one point, and I thought she could do way better. And she eventually decided that, too.

If any of us was a 7 year old kid now, do you think we’d become Giant fans? I doubt I would especially from across the country. Even though they never won the WS, think of the guys we had to root for and emulate compared to what they’ve put out there lately. I don’t just mean the obvious HOFers we had to look up to. So many other colorful and talented guys followed. Now, they’re so bland – or maybe it’s just that the game has changed so much and I’m just tired after my 62nd season as a fan. I’m pretty sure Blade for one agrees with at least some of this…

At least you’d still be a Chiefs fan.

I’d say depends on household you grow up in. As a kid Giants were always on radio at our house and TV games were few except vs. LA. Giants had dynamic teams in 60s but so did everyone else in NL (except for couple bottom feeders) and there were so many HOFs on other teams.

Giants don’t have too many guys to really get into now but hopefully than can change, soon.

Growing up here like I did? I’d say yeah.

Baseball is pretty much just a regional sport. Used to be when you grew up you’d get put on a team. The Mets and Pirates were a couple of mine so I looiked at those teams. Of course they were loaded with HOFers and superstars.

There are very few nationally recognized stars these days. Bonds was pretty much the last one, and he didn’t do ads so, no one really grabs the attention of casual fans. Well, Shohei Ohtani is now reaching that status.

Mike Trout has been the greatest player for the past 12 years, and I wouldn’t recognize him in a lineup.

I was one of those guys that was disappointed Z didn’t do more to keep Gausman after 2021. He’s down 2-0 early tonight to Cards. ERA is over 4.00, almost full run higher than last year and worst mark since before he got to SF.

Jays are on hook for 2 more years @$46 million. Toronto is dead last AL East 69-78. Maybe he would have done better out here and avoided seeing Yanks O’s etc., but this deal isn’t aging well.

Padres need the Ws. Mets and Braves both won tonight. Kinda funny that Giants have O’s and Royals next so how other teams fare against them will matter.

Well that didn’t take long 4 pitches in Webb gives up a hard single then a Bomb straight away center 2-0 and now another hit to Machado! Too soon to call it ballgame?Oh hell let’s make 3-0 on Profar’s double

“If any of us was a 7 year old kid now, do you think we’d become Giant fans? I doubt I would…”  Yeah Loo, I wonder. It does indeed come down to the individual players that we connect with, over a period of time, and if that’s missing, then true fandom becomes challenged. Found a comment I posted here on 10/15/21 after elimination in the NLDS:

“I don’t know, maybe I’m gettin’ old (well, obviously), but I kind of miss knowing who’s playing where. Yeah, who’s on first. Other than Crawford being THE shortstop, and I guess Buster at catcher… indeed, who’s the 1st baseman? Who’s the 2nd basemen? Who’s the CFer? Who’s playing LF today? The answers this year were always “well, sometimes it’s (fill in the blanks) Wilmer or Ruf or Wade or Bryant or Solano or Estrada or Duggar or Slater or or or …” …

This year, thankfully, things haven’t been as platoony as under Kotter, and the team does seem to be making progress in getting true position players we can truly support. But there’s still a lot of bland mediocrity on this team.

Wow been that kind of year. Webb was gonna get out of it and then airmails throw. 83 pitches to get through 4 innings.

Webb said he was badly hungover at the AS game. Wonder what’s behind the more recent flops. Could be overwork.

  18. willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 13, 2024 at 9:03 pm

Relay throws like that are thing of beauty to watch. Ramos at least had decent AB and got a hit to get on and it was worth a shot to send him but Cronenworth gunned him down.

What’s really “Overworked “ is watching the Giants all season continue to play stupid baseball ball.Thank God that football season started up.The comedy of continual Strikeout, never scoring runs, you can usually turn a game on late and they still have a Fat Zero on the board with a few measly hits, and bad news bear defense..

  20. willedav's avatar willedav said, on September 13, 2024 at 9:45 pm

Machado stung that but McCray turned wrong way and missed it. Kinda funny one cam flashed to Lee in dugout. Combine that with all the Ks, seems destined to start 2025 season in Sac.
