A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Another Shitout!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 14, 2024

I wonder if Zaidi’s gonna fire Melvin with 3 games left in the season as he did last year to save his job. Is there anything this buffoon can do to save his job? And don’t think I forgot who the Flapper was who called bullshit on this guy from the start: That fucking clown. Bozo peeked behind the curtain on Day 1 and saw nothing there……

Think Brewers have become my fav NL team to watch. Walked into AZ and beat high scoring DBax 2-1 last night behind 5 innings from Freddy Peralta and their pen. Peralta allowed 1 run, 4 pen guys behind him each had no hit inning and Devin Williams closed it out They have speed and power, dynamic rookie Jackson Chourio, and above all pitching and D that plays well everywhere, witness 43-33 record on road. Only Braves in NL have given up fewer runs.

Last night was Webb’s 31st start and he’s up to 193 innings (both tops NL), but 4 of first 6 guys he faced got hits off him, including Tatis Jr. 2 run HR and Bogaerts 2 out rbi double.

If he does that, then ownership should fire him 3 hours later. Actually, why wait.

Shea in Chron shared letter Mays wrote in tribute to Cepeda to be shared when Cepeda passed (unfortunately shortly after Mays did), that will be read at Sunday celebration. Marichal Dusty and Tony Oliva will be there and speak.

Turns out Mays remembered Cepeda as 17 year old bat boy when Mays played winter ball in PR, before he joined SF Giants in 1958. Nice letter, good story.

My only excitement is that the Giants promoted Bryce Eldridge to AAA since AA Richmond season ends on September 15 the Giants decided to give him more AB’s with Sac who have 6 more games left. The 19 year old continues to rake the ball and has moved up through all levels in the minors. He will play additional games in the Arizona Instructional League later this year.

He is now the Giants #1 prospect, he started the year as #96 prospect among all minor league players and now is #50 and rising. He will probably start next year back at AA but will move back up to AAA quickly. He’s the Giants 1B of the future and at 6’7 makes a great target at 1st like the old days of Stretch McCovey who was 6’4?

Hoping he’s not gonna turn into Damien Minor.

While I want clean sweep of senior management and Kim Ng or similarly talented seasoned exec hired as next President of Baseball Operations, does anyone realistically think Zaidi and Putila will be let go in two weeks? If so, you need immediate caffeine fix. I surely don’t. All tea leaves from Chapman signing to early planning for 2025 foretell Zaidi/Putila return.

Barring late season run, Giants headed to 5th non-winning season in Zaidi’s 6 years in charge. Excepting 2021, other five seasons included one 81-81 record and four years where winning percentage ranged between .475-488. In other words, bad enough not to be serious playoff contender in September but acceptable enough for ownership to ignore calls for change.

Who needs Ambien or Restoril to get good night’s sleep? Just watch re-run of Giants for virtually all of past 6 seasons and you’ll sleep fitfully. Speaking of which, wake me up when 2024 season finally ends.

After another season of futility and deck chair changing, if they don’t ditch Farhan and a bunch of his FO including player personnel / scout group, then ownership will be flying a big middle finger at the fanbase…

Did not see/hear any of last night’s loss.

Just looked at highlights, er lowlights of another dim game. Box said 39K attendance, but sure looked like actual bodies were far less than that.

I wonder how the Giants rate in pitcher fielding the position? Seems to me it is always poor. Webb sure flubbed twice last night.

Ks by Giants seemed particularly of the flailing variety. Really tired of seeing Yaz swing through balls at eyeball level. For years now the guy can’t lay off high pitches, and every pitcher knows it. If he could, his average would probably jump 30 points…

The whole FO needs a revamp if noting else to give us some hope come next spring.

I find it interesting that the real details of the contracts for both Z and Melvin recently were aired, revealing just 1 guaranteed year, not 2. That could work both ways: If it’s only 1 more year, keep these guys, it’s just one more year; or, if it’s only 1 year, then it’s not too big a deal to ditch it now. What the team does between now and end of season shouldn’t really matter, as the returns are in, but if they look really bad here at the end, I think ownership pulls the trigger.

Will the Giants score a run by the end of September?

I wish I had been wrong about Zaidi. Just wanted to wait and see what he could do before deeming him a genius. Maybe the Dodgers didn’t keep him on the payroll, but I’m pretty sure he was their payback for Colletti

  11. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on September 14, 2024 at 7:49 pm

Has this team checked out? or are they tanking on purpose to get Z fired? ….

    • Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:00 pm

I hope no one is tanking it. If nothing else, they don’t know where they’ll be next year, so they probably don’t want a rep of tanking it. Hopefully.

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Yeah, I doubt they’re tanking. We’re just seeing another big fade over the final month of the season, not a good trend.

  12. Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on September 14, 2024 at 7:55 pm

Could they just score a run?

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:25 pm

Paul..They fired Kapler who still had another year left on his contract so it’s not past the realm of hopefully getting rid of both Morroco Mole&Melvin..

3 possible candidates have come up for the managers job I have to laugh about some..

1B coach Mark Hallberg (major ties with Posey going back to roommates in College) so Posey could have major pull with him ..

Hunter Caffeine Pence lol just no coaching experience anywhere but a fan favorite still and still heavily involved with team/ broadcasting/ always at team functions and connections with the young players unlike Melvin

Alyssa Naykeen (sp?) been with the team for along time (close to 10 years?) but really even if she has respect of the younger players same as Pence but no experience like Pence and even though I like her is baseball are Giants really going to hire a woman moving forward?

Not thrilled with the choices hope more would be available. Though if the Giants did hire Kim Ng as GM maybe you do see Alyssa as manager for the daily double women on your betting card, since they can’t win with men running the team..

Can the Giants avoid 3 shitouts in a row?

I predicted they’d crater in September, but this is ridiculous…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:42 pm

      Nope.

What an embarrassment. I don’t know if the coaches have lost the team, or what.

The entire management structure — FO, scouting, and field — should be fired, and ownership should then fire itself…

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:34 pm

I guess the 13 runs the other day fulfilled the commitment of runs for the rest of the month.

This is utterly ridiculous. I guess. I’m not watching this crapola.

Who the heck is Donovan Walton? Hmm, not sure I remember Giants getting shut out 3 games in a row……

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:50 pm

He’s a 30-year old journeyman AAAA infielder up from Sac. They sent Matos down. Fitzgerald has a tight back, is the explanation. If Walton takes ABs from Luciano, it makes no sense…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:55 pm

Last time they got shutout 3X in a row was June, 1992, per Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News. No word on whether that was at home or on the road. He says tonight “it’s not ideal”…

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on September 14, 2024 at 8:57 pm

Ex-Giant Donovan Solano “Donny Barrels” went 4-5 tonight with 3 doubles. Nice..
