A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Watching these Tigers games really isn’t that bad. They remind me a little of the 2010 Giants in terms of how hard they try, they never seem to care if they’re down, their bullpen is nails–every guy that comes out of that pen is slinging darts.

Tigers to make the post season? Why not?

Giants have 3 with KC after they leave Balt; Tigers only 2 back of them, and Twins have game with Guards today. Fun to watch this play out.

For Giants, hasn’t ownership already decided what’s up with FO scouting coaching staffs et al? why would the last dozen games, even if they go well, obscure the first 150?

McCray yesterday was 0-4 after getting on base 4 times day before. Iirc, after his 2 HR game next day he struck out 4 times. BA is .228 and OB is .268, far below average numbers for every day type of starter and not realistic to get too fired up over September #s. Lot of potential/long way to go.

huge Minn game today. They lose and it’s locked up with, I think, 9 to play.

Late September last year was when things exploded after Webb blew up. Found column on SF Gate Sept 26 with comments from Baggs. Webb said, “I’m tired of losing. It’s not enjoyable. It’s not fun. We’ve got to make some big changes in here to really create that winning culture.”

What came out of it was (according to Baggs), “…Webb’s message was directed more internally, to his fellow players in the clubhouse.”

SF Gate story said, “Baggarly reported that Giants players have taken up playing Bob Marley in the clubhouse after losses.” Player granted anonymity asked, “When’s the last time you heard music in a major-league clubhouse after a loss?”

“The music is part of what Baggarly describes as ‘a clubhouse that has included too many ho-hum reactions to losing along with a near-zealotry to Pusoy, a Filipino card game that Joc Pederson and some other Giants players appear to find more compelling than studying the night’s opposing pitchers.'”

Nice story from Baggs today in TA on Jon Miller, true lifer of baseball guy.

Last week my TV died Tuesday morning. I didn’t buy new one til Thursday and it took til mid day Friday to get it fully set up. Spent couple games listening to Miller on radio, very enjoyable.

Not sure why the infield is in there. They should play to keep the tie in order.

    Willie’s 11:27.

THAT is another example of players and/or field management that is friggin’ clueless. Your starter gets worked in a tough inning, it’s age old baseball to then take a few pitches and work counts right after that when you are at bat, to give your starter have a blow in the dugout. It’s just smart baseball. Would it take much for Melvin to tell the batters to take a pitch or two? It’s a high school level thing, and should be obviously taught / reinforced in the minors. The talent lacks, sure, but the Giants organization in so many ways just plays dumb baseball…

Yeah, after singing his praises for 2/3 of an inning, Walker gives up the bomb.

Twins lost to Guards in 10, Tigers now tied for last WC spot and 2 games back of Royals.

Braves won, DBax at Brewers and Mets up 7-3 on Phils.

@ Snarkk..100%. Just on random chance it’s crazy how many players we get on the team who don’t know how to play the game.

Little things as you mentioned as well as other things little leaguers seem to know. Watching a batter swing at the 1st pitch after the pitcher had walked 2 in a row. My dad used to practically leap out of his chair and drop a F bomb when guys do that.

  33. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on September 19, 2024 at 6:26 pm

This has been a staple of the Farhan era. From Dubon on down just a bunch of guys who get called up and have no idea what to do in a lot of situations. Who was the OFer? Gonzalez?

Tried to tag up to 2nd with a runner on 3rd and got doubled off costing the team a run? He never knew where to throw the ball. Errors, baserunning gaffes, on and on. Like Don-boy Walton failing to get a fucking bunt down twice.

And in the meantime Othani goes 6-6 with 3HR’s 4runs scored, 2SB’s and 10RBI’s( yes that’s 10! not to mention the 1st man ever to reach the 50-50 club(HR’s&SB’s)uhh little doubt who the NL MVP is!!
