Buster has been somewhat of a winner most of his life, it seems, so, why not. And yes, he needs to bring on a stellar GM to do a lot of the work it seemed Z was doing himself. I know nothing about Putilo or what he actually did, but doesn’t seem like a stellar GM…
Agreed, and obviously lot more things to come. Getting current Giants to next level would not be easy task even for someone with previous FO experience.
question: does anyone know who else beside Posey comprises the Board of Directors of ownership?
I think they call the group, The San Francisco Baseball Associates and it was 5 members (maybe went to 6 with Posey). Johnson, Rob Dean and Posey for sure. Baer was probably put back on after being reprimanded for beating his wife. Not sure who the other 1 or 2 members are.

Good call. Pence yesterday offered the best pure take on Pete Rose’s impact as a player that I saw or heard. He revered the guy, at the time. He was also stoked about Buster’s ascension. That energy has to be useful somewhere in the org.
Impressive streak: 2008-14 Pence never played fewer than 154 games even after being traded twice. Back to back seasons of full 162 with Giants.
Pence had to compensate for and play through that congenital disability that gradually locked up his shoulders and upper back. He touched on it yesterday briefly when describing how Rose inspired him, but he quickly veered away. Pence is a smart complex guy with a competitive drive Buster knows first hand.

Buster not surprisingly was pretty darn closed-mouth on specifics of what he’s going to do. Tossing Putila is a good sign — hopefully more Farhan people will be moving on. The whole organization from US and international scouting to minor league coaching up the chain needs immediate evaluation and review and new blood, if they haven’t already done that. The minors have to develop future major leaguers, not kids who get up there and have their heads on a swivel, and can’t throw to the proper cutoff man, can’t break back efficiently on a line drive, can’t visualize whether a pop will be a hit or not and stand frozen on the basepaths, run through signs, etc. These things matter, and show an organization adrift…
Buster and his advisers have been preparing for this all season long.
I actually believe to this day that Buster who still could of played retired due to Farhan Zaidi being hired and also how the Giants kicked Bochy to the curb was incredibly stupid..
Buster probably despises Kapler and disagrees profoundly with Farhan. He sat out every third game in 21 and spent many hours in the training room before each of his starts. His legs and hips were shot.
Posey was beat. I seriously don’t think he passed on a season because of the GM.
Bochy? He was literally falling apart. He NEEDED the break for his health.

I have a feeling Posey will set this up so it can run itself without him. Someone like Kim Ng wants a chance at Posey’s title, not just be a GM, so to get her they’d need to have a plan of her being able to move into that slot.
Could also be woman from O’s Blade mentioned, Eve something with scouting background.
I remember reading something from Theo Epstein about going from complete Sabermetrics to being big on scouting (a healthy mix is the way to go, IMO). I think he felt that since all teams were using analytics the edge was gone. When he was with the Cubs, he went strong on player development. He also started evaluating players based on how they handled stressful situations, if they couldn’t handle stress, he didn’t want em.
So maybe a strong scouting background isn’t a bad thing.

I’m all in still with Kim Ng who really has a long history of analytics.Not sure of her scouting knowledge which Posey is looking for also but she’s still my choice.She did a great job getting a crappy Marlins team into the playoffs with deadline moves before they decided to really get retarded and try to reorganize the organization and strip her of power.Ibelieve she interviewed back in 2022-2023 with the Giants?
After being drafted out of Florida State by giants in 2008 Posey spent 10 games that year in Rookie Ball, 115 games in minors 2009 (A+ and AAA) and then in 2010 47 more in AAA before being called up for good.
He’s gonna need lotta help fixing development issues Giants have with home grown players.
