Boom!
Astros and Braves eliminated. I’m really getting on board with these Padres but they obviously suffered a big blow yesterday with the loss of Musgrove. Detroit is the real story though and if you back up 10 feet and squint at the tv they’ll look like the 2010 Giants. Happy for their fans. Win another series. Why not?
Chuck’s 7:20 last night raised interesting question about whether the Division winners that get time off benefit or not. Looking at schedule, DS don’t start until Saturday giving winners 5 full days off since Sunday and 4 of them still alive had already clinched before that.
First thought would be that after 6 months players would appreciate few days off. 5, idk.
I could see guys losing their batting stroke a la LA last year. By the time they get back into the swing, they are done.
Beyond that, no one plays a full season anymore. These guys get plenty of load management breaks during the season. We’ll see. I know winning the division all these years hasn’t done shit for the Dodgers.
Nice obit in NYT on Ozzie Virgil Sr., “who became the first Dominican native in major league baseball when he played 3b for NY Giants in 1956.”
Speaking of NYC, in TA column that notes this might be Alonso’s last game with Mets, um blogosphere not real kind to Pete. Maybe just fans venting after a tough L, but yeow.
If you highlight the Games Started column, the Tigers are a dead ringer for the 2023 Giants.
The 2010 Giants had four starters with 33, Wellenmeyer started 11 before Bumgarner (18) was called up. Joe Martinez started one game. That’s it. Nobody missed their turn in the rotation.
The 2014 Giants had a similar Runs Allowed to Runs Scored.
Tigers are probably the non-bye team with the best chance to win. If you bet them a couple of weeks ago, you might get a nice return on your investment.
It will soon be F/A madness time in baseball!
I’m looking for Posey and his other advisory members to get aggressive and open up the pocket book’s bigtime!
My wish list now is Both the Orioles F/A players in SP Corbin Burnes a stud in the rotation ( true #1 innings eater coming off 15 win season) And LH hitter Anthony Santander RF with power 44 HR’s last year.. 150 plus HR’s in career..
Final on my wish for now ..F/A SS Willy Adames another slugger over 40 HR’s 112 RBI’s this past year and most of his 150 HR’s are from the last 4 years..
You add these 3 players and funny thing is they’re all 29 so still in their prime, the Giants instantly upgrade in 3 positions!!
And I’m on board with JT Snow commenting on not resigning Blake Snell and wasn’t thrilled he past on his last start of the season to avoid an injury going into F/A was B/S.Save the Snell money and go out and find 6-7 inning pitchers cheaper instead. Im with Blade,Fuck Snell..
Exactly AK. As I alluded to yesterday, our “best pitcher” is and always has been Oracle Park. Spend the money on hitters, i.e., a better return on payroll, coupled with attendance (more money for the greedy Johnsons, et. al.).
When I watch a baseball game, I want to see ACTION daily and that means competent hitters. Our cupboard is barely stocked.
Sure, we need more pitching, but not spending $300 million + for only one guy – that already screwed the pooch this year for $32 million and ONLY worked half a season (if that) due to injury.
Who the fuck really cares how much they spend? The Rangers spent near a billion in 2 years and it got them a chip. The Dodgers went over a billion this year and they deferred the fuck out of it.
Get Soto. Pay HIM a billion. Sure, we need to draft hitters, but here we are, about to go through another regime change and the previous regime’s guys are not too impressive short of Eldridge. Sign OTS. Burnes. Adames. Take the plunge.
Or, What? We wait? 4 more years for Buster’s guys to come through the system? Fuck that.
Oh yeah. Fucklanta! And FuBrewCrew. Go Mets!
(skinking early today. been a hell of a week and here we are.
Wow 2 HRs on consecutive pitches for Brewers to lead off bottom 7.
Clutch 3 run bomb from Alonso to RF top 9. Mets rally off Devin Williams for 3-2 lead.
A Mazins finish off Brewers 4-2 as Lindor starts 6-3 DP to end it. Get Phils next.
Knocked MIL closer Williams out of game adding on 2 out insurance run top 9th before local guy Joe Ross ended the inning.
Ross played for Bishop O’Dowd HS of Oaktown, younger brother of Tyson Ross.
I don’t really understand how the playoff seeding worked. The Dodgers had the best record, but they didn’t get the 6th seed (Mets.) But, that’s fine, I would rather the Dodgers get the tougher opponent, the Padres. The Mets have some magic going, but I think the Padres are better.
So Indy’s Clark got 66 of the 67 votes for Rookie of the Year. There’s a doofus out there that gets to vote, but didn’t vote for her. OK….
Speaking of Clark, her final playoff game of this season drew 2.5 million TV viewers, and in the next round of playoffs, the first game between New York and Las Vegas, the two teams that were in the finals last year, drew about 900,000 TV viewers.
Note to WNBA players: she saved your league. It’s hard for many of them to accept that, but the truth can be harsh sometimes.
Clark will be in Bay Area in a year vs. SF expansion team. Should be quite an event.
Great weekend of racing coming up at Keeneland and Santa Anita.
