A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

NOW The Postseason Begins

4 games today, no duds. Some might argue the KC/NY game could be a little duddy but KC is like a low-key Tigers team. Who knows what is gonna happen there? I’m here for ALL of it.

Realize I’m late to the dance with my thoughts on Giant Titanic deck chair maneuvers this week. Like most (all?) Flavor bloggers, totally support Zaidi firing and Putila demotion/departure. Fresh approach and new vision sorely needed.

Like Buster stepping up to plate and shouldering significant responsibility for restoring pride and success of on-field product. Buster genuinely cares about Giant history and is willing to risk some tarnish on his Giants legacy to be leading voice of front office.

His comments at press conference indicate he recognizes his relative inexperience at business side of baseball and his need to rely on strong GM. That makes his first decision so important – who fills GM role. I’m still fan of Kim Ng though there are other good candidates. Key is to find someone before free agency begins who complements Buster and is not hesitant to disagree with Giant legend on occasion. The right pairing between Buster and GM could right the floundering ship quickly and make Giants competitive again in short term. I’m tired of October baseball with our team on golf course.

As for today, think both NL series and Tigers-Guardian matchup compelling with traditional rivals facing off. And if Royals can split first two games at Yankee Stadium, pressure on Pinstripes heading to KC will be enormous.

Someone will have to score to win Guards-Tigers series. Guards in WS, versus say Padres, would be very cool opportunity for long suffering fanbases to get ring.

Mets truly are amazing and great theater. Diaz is great theater all by himself. I’ve watched Alonso HR quite a bit and…while he might hit x amount of HRs as a Giant that would not have been one of them. It barely cleared leaping RF and short fence. Guys have been held to a single on liners off the high wall at Oracle.

It’s a tough place to hit for power given dimensions of yard and weather conditions at night.

Great “who are these guys?” column in TA on Tigers. Last player mentioned Wenceel Perez, with note “Converted from infield in spring training and became surprise contributor.” hmmnn

Yankees v Royals in a best of five series is peak post-season entertainment, an homage to when the Bronx was burning and KC was cool AF.

Tigers v Guardians is like listening to Working Man’s Dead for the first time. A Triple Crown winning starter v an Eckersley cloned closer. The roster strategies of Farhan’s protégée  v the tactics of the manager that the Giants should have hired.

Mets v Phillies is as quintessential an East Coast freeway rivalry as Dodgers v Padres are West Coast.

I’ve warmed up to this playoff format, though the league championships should also be best of five. Game Seven of the World Series should be played a week before Halloween.
