MLB to NFL
Fun baseball games yesterday. Disappointed in SD who had the lead and gave it away pretty quickly. A good reason to not build your team around 1 superstar: Judge can’t seem to hit a baseball in the post season. I don’t know if it’s mental or what. But he’s a good example of a disappearing superstar in the most important time of the season. I know they won they game but not because of him (though he did make a good catch in the first inning). My point is, we don’t need to go after 1 big free agent guy. A better way to insulate yourself against a guy who makes a billion dollars but disappears in the post season might be to just stock up with as many “Matt Chapman’s” as you can.
All eyes turn back to the NFL today. No feeling at all about this Niner game. Could see it going either way.
Good points Flav. Padres (led Dogs twice last night til they didn’t) are where they are without Soto, Snell and Hader. Love “many ‘Matt Chapmans’ as you can.'”
Mets rally in last 2 innings: 7 singles walk and 2 sac flies. No 3 run HRs necessary. After leadoff bomb from Schwarber Mets pen game worked fine and 5 pitchers held Phils to 4 hits 1run.
Awful beat for Cal last night, blowing 20 point lead at home vs. The U in 4th quarter.
Krueger saying Sabes may return . . . wait for it . . . as GM.

Not overly psyched by possible Sabean return. It suggests to me Posey’s comfort level is with those he’s most familiar with as opposed to landing GM with no past ties to Giants organization who would bring fresh ideas such as Kim Ng, Scott Sharp (KC) or Mike Fast (Atlanta).
I like Posey ascension to Prez of Baseball Operations and believe he brings instant credibility in negotiations with top flight free agents who can relate to Posey’s recent past as everyday catcher. His direct participation in selling SF organization to free agents should have more traction than pitch from Farhan Zaidi who had no past experience as player.
But if Posey focuses primarily on reassembling former Giant front office personnel at expense of new faces, I’m less ecstatic. Giant organization in rut, plain and simple. Now is time to mesh Posey’s historical ties and passion for Giants with GM who isn’t constrained by past ties to organization and can offer fresh perspective.
Good points all. I don’t think Posey intends to be day to day guy (nor Sabes) and he may hire 2 of them as GM and assistant GM with strong backgrounds in scouting player evaluation and development to cover daily grind from top to bottom of system. Lot of potential candidates out there, and everyone ultimately will answer to him.
As far as FAs, I don’t think Posey can undo what already works against Giants: they aren’t currently a player away from being 90 win team and park (and night time summer weather with fans bundled up) is opposite of hitter friendly. To me those are reasons likes of Judge Ohtani et al aren’t much interested in Giants $$, Soto included. Chapman wanted to be here; others not so much.
I suppose it’s possible that on an interim basis someone like Sabean could oversee the rebuild of the front office while improving the team for next year.
Krueger? The brain dead hack?
uh oh. Looks like Krueger blocked me on Twitter. Touchy mofo.
Guess Sabean would start rooting for the Giants again if this move happens. He clearly was pissed off and hated Farhan for not even listening to what he had to say plus the handling of Bochy who was kicked to the curb didn’t bode well with him either..
Hard to argue with Sabes Success rate 3 in 5 plus many other trades like the Williams trade that netted Jeff Kent, the fleecing of the Whitesox’s in 1997 for 3 pitchers at the deadline to help them win the division. The heist of pitcher Jason Schmidt a total Stud for us was brilliant as well.. So I’m in Posey could absorb so much info from Sabes track record..
As much as I appreciated JT Snow’s ripping of not signing Blake Snell (and I agree) I doubt that set well with Posey.Snow wants back in the organization badly, but imo he just turned into Rick Barry and will be blackballed now..
Bochy was burnt out. He needed the break. Not thrilled at all to see Posey leaning on a guy like Sabean. Yeah, he was good, but his best drafts were 2006 to 2010. They need fresh blood and a different outlook. Yer right about JT though. Stupid comment.
Niners, wow just fucking wow.
it’s so fucking hot in Silicon Valley even now.
yes. Freaking 100 again today.
they just keep losing in the most disgusting way possible.
Flaherty dropping couple F bombs after striking out Machado with 2 on in 6th. Roberts Yanks him trailing 3-1. Merrill singles off pen guy . 4-1 SD.
LA fans are the worst, from the camera hungry celebs behind the plate to the cheap shot assholes in the bleachers. I hope Darvish continues to humiliate the hitters.
Exactly.
10-2 final . Flaherty gets the L. Padres blast 6 bombs out of Latrine as Darvish quiets Dodgers bats. Awesome
go pods!
Worst Niners loss in a long while. Awful defense, and yet another game where defense cannot make any stops when it matters:(
Outscored 14-zip in the 2nd half wins you no games. We just figure out cool and inventive ways of screwing the pooch. The penalty for roughing the passer on the light tap of Murray’s helmet gave AZ the extra point to win this game. Stupid call, but Shanny’s insistence on throwing on 3rd and 1 on the goal line remains a mystery as it rarely works.
Fun fact. James Connor had 9 yards rushing in the 1st half.
Brandon Aiyuk had 123 yards receiving in the 1st half.
James Connor had 75 yards rushing in the 2nd half.
Brandon Aiyuk had 24 yards receiving in the 2nd half.
Hmmm. Who made adjustments? Who didn’t. Purdy’s picks were unfortunate, but Mason’s fumble was the straw that stirred the camel’s beak. Whatever the fuck. AZ then handed the ball to Connor about 6 times in a row, scored a TD, and we did nothing to stop it.
Lose to Seattle on Thursday, and we are close to kissing the season goodbye. BUT our whole division is shit. Most of the NFL is a bunch of shitty teams. Minnesota is unbeaten and they could very easily be 2-3. We are 2-3 and we could be undefeated.
Nothing really matters, I guess. We lose to Seattle and then KC and then we have the Cowboys. 3-6 at the bye and it’ll be ‘wait till next year!’ And this was supposed to be the easy part of our schedule.
