Post Season Rolls On
What an exciting day of baseball. I missed most of it but still, it looked like it was exciting.
Regarding the Niners and Salah. I don’t see that happening. I doubt he’d even want to come back here especially mid season. And I don’t see Lynch making that move. A move like that wreaks of desperation and guys like Lynch and Kyle don’t operate that way. Plus, I think everyone in the org really likes Sorenson. And it’s not like he’s just some rando, he’s been with the team a few years.
I’d be shocked if they did this.
I know, and I also know the Niners regularly start slow and pick up speed as the season rolls on. This just feels different, and if we lose this game, we are staring at 2-5 with the Chiefs coming up next. This reminds me a lot of the Warriors these past couple seasons where the team just doesn’t seem interested in playing a full game and investing their energy to close these teams out. They thinkl they can just turn things on when they need to make a playoff push. We all know how that worked out for the Warriors.
As we all know, the window for chips is an ever-shrinking deal, and pissing this team and this level of talent away would be disastrous if a change could be made to get this team rolling. I’m hoping against hope this team gets its shit together, but this defensive scheme of bend and break will get us last place in the division.
I.m sure these games have gotten the players’ attention, but that doesn’t address the complete lack of urgency payed by this defense. The LBs are lining up 6 yard behind the line and immediately dropping 5-10 yards back into a soft zone.
Teams are throwing underneath it, and over the top of it. With the LBs so far back, any runner getting through the line has 8 yards of daylight. Our base 4-man front isn’t getting enough pressure, and we aren’t doing anything else to CREATE pressure. The safety play has been flat terrible. TEs open in the flat for 15 yards with no one within 10 yards is just bad.
We are being out-schemed and out-played regularly.
the safety play has been visually horrendous. What has happened to Hufanga? I know he was out for a year but goddamn he’s not even in the right place sometimes. He’s biting on shit a high school safety wouldn’t bite on.
The 2 years in the last 5 Niners have played in the super bowl they started 5-0. The years they didn’t start strong they didn’t make it. I’m hopeful we can turn this around, but not optimistic. The key is, and always has been the defense. Just like the Rams and Az game recently, as well as both super bowls and both NFC game losses. The team was ahead and the opponent needed a full field drive to score, and they achieved that score EVERY time.
Salah, Ryans, and the last 2 coordinators the result was the same. When we need a defensive stand we don’t get it. Why? No clue.
Yeah, but they made the NFCCG 2 of those 3 times. The only miss was the injury-filled 2020 season.
Hufanga has ligament damage in his wrist. I think he lasted half of the 1st quarter after his ankle injury. He’s out for another month. Odum has been flat awful and he’s been replaced by Mustapha. Brown has been iffy, but I just can’t tell if it is because we are playing the FS too far back, or what the deal is. We used to be flying at the pass catchers from all over the place. These days, most guys have a 5 yard cushion.
And without any sustained pressure, it’s pass and catch all day. 3rd and long is easy pickings.
I mean, CMC and Dre Greenlaw are difference-makers, but are they THAT important that the team grinds to a halt without them? Apparently so. I know the offense sorely misses CMC in the red zone. Dre on 3rd down? Same thing.
In LA the am sports station preempted the Dan Patrick show for Dodger talk. Fans have the long knives out for Roberts. Made me think about Shanahan. Playoffs every year, but can’t win the playoff / WS games/ Superbowl games…
I’m flat amazed Roberts has lasted this long. Maybe this is simply more of the GM/front office running the lineups and game-time decisions so they won’t rock the boat, but Roberts has had by a country mile, one of the most talented team in the game for 10 years now. And all they have to show for it is the bubble-wrap world series.
As Twin used to say, managers do very little to win games, but can very easily lose them.
And the Dodgers haven’t named their SP yet for today’s game?
Roberts doesn’t have any pitching left–for all the money they’ve spent and despite deadline deals they could be going with pen game tonight or starting kid Knack. Who can keep pitchers healthy these days and free from surgeries even if nobody throws complete games or 200 innings anymore?
Also, as they have most of the season, bottom of their order sucks. From Muncy on down through Smith Lux and rest they were 1-18 last night. Once Padres got through Ohtani Betts Freeman and Hernandez with only hobbled Freeman single top 8th, game was over. Pads pitching shut them out for 6 straight innings.
Padres K’d fewest in NL, had most hits and led league in BA 4th OPS. Bottom line their hitters make contact and this was point of emphasis by hitting coach they had hired.
In 6 run second inning not one of 10 guys that hit ever struck out and putting ball in play resulted in multiple screw up by Dogs (and productive out sac fly rbi) before Tatis homered. Last night they only struck out 4 times.
Agree Willied, I never liked the Dogpile outfield all year except for T Hernandez.Bringing back Kike Hernandez,Chris Taylor, fan favorites who cares they stink, add in Outman,Pages more useless outfielders that couldn’t hit. Yeah once you get pass the top of the LU with Othani,Betts,a hobbled Freeman and Smith their very vulnerable..
SP for Dodgers a mess with all their injuries and just flat out the Padres are rolling with a killer deep LU and a Bullpen that’s Lights Out with every guy throwing 100 mph..Good chance this series ends in San Diego..
Got to say, watching the Mets and Padres, they have a plan when coming to the plate. The Dodgers are more akin to the K or home run approach. Philly pretty much the same. Watching Harper flail like a rookie was something to see. He was schooled from the 1st pitch.
I forget who it was on the Mets, but as a lefty with 2 strikes and a runner 2nd and 3rd, he choked up and simply slapped the ball down the 3rd base line for a 2-run single. No swinging for the fences, no sombrero to put on while dancing in the dugout, just a back-breaking 2 run single.
October 9 1920 born day of multi reed player Yusef Lateef, who passed age 93 December 23 2013. Many fine recordings as a leader and was in Cannonball Adderley’s great sextet on flute oboe and tenor sax including Live at Jazz Workshop (SF) Revisited 1962. Tremendous band.
I always think of Lateef as a flute player but he was much more.
today’s also the b’day of pop star John Lennon.
Tigers shut out Guards for second game in a row. wow 3-0 W.
The amazing Tigers are for real back to back shutouts 1 game away from moving on!
Wow what a moment for Lindor and the amazing Mets a Grandslam cleans the bases!!! 4-1 Stick it Phillies..
Lindor with a granny! Mets 3 outs away from moving on.
Diaz doing his best Doval, walking the first 2 guys he sees on 9 pitches.
Guy is a trip. Got em though.
So much for Soto’s defense.
Guess we are all rooting for the Orange and Blue Mets!
Hopefully everyone knows the orange and blue in the Mets uni’s are representative of the Giants and Dodgers. In 62 all the NY NL fans were in mourning.
They left in 1958.
they lost the WS to the yanks
The Mets???
I’m sure the Brooklyn dodger fans were happy.
