A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Indians Coming Up Ant Small

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 16, 2024

Vogt did a hell of a job managing that game, he stopped the bleeding and gave his team a shot. But it wasn’t to be, they made a couple of little league mistakes and in the end that team just can’t hit or, frankly, pitch (starters anyway). Come on, they had Alex Cobb opening for them. LOL. And then their supposed *Ace got smacked around by Yankee hitters. Brace yourselves gentlemen, the New York Yankees will be back in the World Series this year. And I know one Yankee fan who is thrilled to pieces. Georgie Boy has got to be over the moon about this year so far…..

Everyone should relax about all this “evil empire” stuff. They have a fantastic and storied history. And it’s not like they’re out there buying World Series trophies. Shit, they haven’t even been to the World Series since 2009. Think about how long ago 2010 was. And they were last there a year before that.

First coaching change in Giants offseason. Bryan Price resigns; JP Martinez elevated as new pitching coach. Unless I’m missing something, ho hum.

I’m more bothered by report that front office brass has made no outreach effort yet to Kim Ng or Thad Levine.

Two weeks since Zaidi firing/Posey announcement. Definitely enough time for Buster and ownership to have targeted multiple GM candidates to interview. Billy Owens brings clear credentials for GM post but now’s the time to vet several candidates to find individual whose vision and plan is best fit for organization whether that ends up being Owens, Ng, Levine, Sawdaye…

Yankees won 9 WS btw 1949 and 1962. Fell off cliff after that but returned to win 1977 and 78, then 3 more 1998-2000. Just always disliked them from 61 on, despite how good they were. Steinbrenner was just an a-hole and smugness of Torre led groups was another turnoff.

If they are in there vs. Dogs, I wish them best as all Giants fans will. Hard to ignore $ spent by 3 top teams still left.

Meanwhile, Warriors played 10 guys while game mattered last night in routing Lakers in preseason game, and 2 guys that didn’t play (Podz and Melton) could easily start. Haven’t seen similar blend of talent in um, exactly 50 years.

Vogt’s catchers have not reached base in 23 trips to plate this postseason per TA. Didn’t watch much after Austin Hedges AB, after ineffective Cole had been removed. Hedges of course struck out with sacks loaded…In over 2000 ABs in his career that began with Pads in 2015, slash line is: .186/.243/.315.

Yes, if Yanks/Dodgers had been meeting up in the WS on a regular basis, sure everyone would be tired of that. As I said before, I think ’81 was their last meeting in the WS, that’s a long time ago. For the 2 “biggest” teams to meet rarely, it’s good to see it happen now and then. I’d be fine with Mets taking out LA now, but even more fine with NY beating the Dogs in the Series…

yes. From here on out I am absolutely rooting for the Yankees to win the world series

Five most tainted World Series titles: 1919 Reds, 1981 Dodgers, 2017 Astros, 1985 Royals, 2020 Dodgers

      Who benefitted/ who got screwed

1919: The Reds (Black Sox)/ White Sox players who didn’t throw the series, the players who did and didn’t get paid

1981: The Dodgers, Yankees, Royals (1st half winners)/ The Reds and Cardinals who had the best records in their divisions yet didn’t make the playoffs

1985: The Royals (“He missed the bag”)/ the Cardinals

1917: Astros (trash can serenade)/ Dodgers

2020: The Dodgers (Covid shortened season), fans who like the current playoff format./ No one really

If Cobb is your ace going into the playoffs, well, lol. Good luck with that.

The Guardicles looked like the Giants in their abject ineptitude at doing anything with runners on base.

The Yanks may be the evil empire, but they aren’t out there bumping uglies or performing cute little canned f-bomb sound bites and the like. Muncy and Kiki have to be two of the worst examples of why baseball is becoming a joke with all the histrionics over a base hit and the attention-seeking BS. Them calling out the Padres for it was hysterical.

I’d love to see Muncy facing Bob Gibson after doing his weenie dance or the wobbly dipshit thing. He’d look funny trying to eat corn on the cob with no fucking teeth.

didnt he wear some shirt that mocked mcCovey cove or something? What was that?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2024 at 9:45 am

Yeah, he hit a home run off Bummie into the cove, and got into a staring contest. Or they yelled at each other. I forget. He then had shirts made saying “I hit it into the ocean” or some shit.

Thus proving his amazing stupidity about basic geography.

If Posey really goes back to Sabevans, I’ll be very bummed.

This team is screaming for new ideas and fresh input.

The headline on the Flap today proves the point of why the Cleveland team’s name was changed to Guardians. For so many years Native Americans had to see sports headlines like “Indians Get Scalped by the Red Sox” and other stuff like that. The vast majority of Native Americans don’t want to be sports team mascots. It’s very clear.

many don’t want to be called Americans. For good reason, I’d say.

Muncy hit an HR into McCovey Cove off of Bum, and Muncy stood and watched the flight of the ball for a while, which we all know is not going to go well with Bum. Bum yelled something to him, and Muncy yelled back something like “Go get the ball out of the ocean!” And then did his waddle around the bases, with Bum yelling a few more things at him, maybe something like “Come up and say that to my face.” Nobody was ever going to charge the mound on Bum, though. Bum looked like Paul Bunyan on the mound. But in Dodger Land, Muncy’s statement was perceived as really witty. They even had a Muncy bobblehead night with the statement about the ocean on the base of the bobblehead.

Dodger fans were pretty hostile in general about Bum, but I think a lot of it was just jealousy that Bum was having a far better post-season career than their hero Kershaw.

I was at the Giants game when Bum hit a homerun off of Kershaw to help the Giants win that day. I think Chi and I were sitting together that day, if I remember correctly.

And, of course, Bum hit two grandslams in 2014, in that amazing season. I think Bum and Posey hit grandslams in the same game that year, being the first time that battery mates hit grandslams in the same game.

“Battery mates”? Where the heck did that phrase come from? It’s like when the batter hit by the pitch gets called a “hit-batsman.” “Hit-batsman,” seriously?

How fair a yard is Citi field for HRs per LHs? So far Ohtani in first post season ever is 6-27 with 1 HR vs. Padres. Hoping Mets can keep him and others in yard/sweep his ass out in next 3.

Yeah I’m with Dean I’m not totally thrilled with JD Martinez getting promoted to pitching coach however he’s well respected among the players and Price resigning thank god is a good thing.I think the Giants should hire Vogelsong as his assistant pitching coach as well!

They need to dump “Pat the Bat”Burrell next and get a hitting coach that actually can work with hitters and show patience with AB’s.I do think it will be one and done with Melvin I’m disappointed they just didn’t cut him loose since now their getting rid of his crap hires anyway.Keep Matt Williams around and add more former Giants maybe Chili Davis as hitting coach he’s really good at that..

Posey taking his time on his GM hire while he absorbs more information is frustrating a bit, he needs to get this done soon.I’m on board with Thad Levine, very smart , got the Twins in playoffs 4 out of his 8 years, yeah they never advanced a round but that’s not all on him. He has high praise throughout baseball.Kim Ng would be excellent as well. Both Levine&Ng are solid at Analytics&scouting.Their my choices.

And I wouldn’t be opposed of this women’s combo of 1A Ng&1B Eve Rosenbum a wizard at both analytics/scouting/ farm system rebuilding ( asst GM with Orioles) who’s made a name for herself helping turn the Orioles around.

Maybe Buster will bring back MadBum as “pitching with attitude” coach….

  16. willedav's avatar willedav said, on October 16, 2024 at 1:45 pm

Bum did something wild in minors didn’t he? He was with San Jose and fired ball over CF fence or something, right?

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on October 16, 2024 at 1:55 pm

Iirc it wasn’t with San Jose. It was just before he got called up in 2010. He hurled the ball toward the OF, not far from where an ump was standing. Delayed his call up slightly, again iirc

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on October 16, 2024 at 2:04 pm

from a 2010 bleacher report. He was with Fresno.

“Bumgarner had to be physically restrained from going after an umpire after a base runner was called safe on a pick-off play to first base.  As he was leaving the field, Bumgarner fired a ball into the outfield.  He was suspended by the Pacific Coast League for three games and the Giants fined him as well.”

sure did t expect the Dodger pitching to hold up this well.

  20. willedav's avatar willedav said, on October 17, 2024 at 6:58 am

Dang, Mets couldn’t keep ball in the yard/forgot to score off beleaguered Buehler and Dogs pen. Btw Yanks Mets NYGs and Jets lot of focus on NYC teams, plus Knicks big trade. Interesting to see reaction of fanbase today.

Bailey as gold Glove catcher? I like the guy but he musta had 20 passed balls.
