Mets, Indians, Fading

Two games today! Two big games. Yanks/Dodgers look like they’re on a collision course. That’s cool with me especially if NY wins….

Yeah, the Mets had Beuhler on the ropes early and let him off the hook. And they had lots of warning track power.

Be nice to see Cleve and the Mets put up a more of a fight. The Mets have a shot. Cleve? Not likely. Although Guardicles SP Matthew Boyd is a distant relative of Bob Feller, so there’s that.

Guardians has some history from a bridge in Cleveland, or something to that effect. Still, it is a lame name for a team. Why not “Security Guards” or “Mall Cops”? The Washington “Commanders” is maybe even more lame, I can’t decide. I think a poll of Washington fans a while back showed a big majority hate the name — they associate it with the prior disastrous owner Snyder in addition to it just being lame.

I assume Buster is talking to GM candidates. I don’t think he has to wait until the WSeries is over to hire somebody, unless they work for a team in the WS, I suppose. He needs to get it done, everything else flows from the GM hiring…

Yep, the Redskins could have gone with Red Tails. A nod to the WWII Tuskegee Airmen. That woulda been kinda cool. Commanders sounds too much like the Washington Generals.

They should have just stayed with the Washington Football Team.

I just figured the Cleves figured they only have to change a couple letters to use the same shit.

Cleve has to get ONE game. Hope the Mets get their second.

Mendoza says he’s going with same lineup tonight…hope it has better luck. Complaints from Mets fans in TA were about J D Martinez over Winker and Alvarez the 22 yr old C, currently 5-35 in post season 1 BB/13 Ks.

5 shutout innings from Dogs pen guys including Kopech, another guy they picked up in 3 team deadline deal with Cards and ChiSox. In 43 innings with Sox 2024 Kopech had ERA of 4.74 and for career with them it’s 4.38 over 376 innings.

With LA ERA is 1.13 with WHIP at 0.79 and he’s only given up 9 hits in 24 innings.

Steal of 3b and single through drawn in IF, Guards up 3-1 in 6th. See if vaunted pen can hold lead.

Off topic for Willie . . . I am asking you because you coach some youth sports and perhaps, are also familiar with other youth sports/activities (dance, gymnastics, etc.) via contacts at schools and recreation departments.* When you get a chance Willie, take a look at this Reddit thread in “Middle Class Finance,” titled, “What are your thoughts? Is youth sports the new keeping up with the Joneses?”

    https://www.reddit.com/r/MiddleClassFinance/comments/1g5xtgw/what_are_your_thoughts_is_youth_sports_the_new/

I would appreciate your answer being as detailed as possible Willie, i.e., if you want to send me an email, you’re more than welcome to (blade3colorado@yahoo.com) . . . This topic is of great importance to me because Michele is approaching that age (she’s 7), where I would imagine she is going to want to participate in an extracurricular activity(ies). Basically, I don’t know what to expect, e.g., cost, what to get involved with & what not to get involved with, best path for softball, basketball, and other mainstream sports/activities for females. Don’t need this quickly either. Thank you in advance Willie.

*If any of you other guys with children have insight, experience, or opinions, feel free to comment too.

Will do. Just looking through some of comments the one from sparemanagement2215 stands out as good guideline and voice of reason. Other good comments further along main thread (didn’t read replies listed yet).

I’ll send more detailed email to you with local examples of expenses etc. from those I know with kids of similar or slightly older age.

Sandy Alomar Jr. is 1b coach of Guards and played in Cleveland for 11 years. Dad will turn 81 Saturday and came up with Milwaukee Braves from PR in 1964 and had 15 year ML career. Younger brother of Sandy Alomar Jr. is HOF Roberto Alomar. Nice bio of Sr. in SABR on B/R.
