A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Bring It On!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 25, 2024

Jeez, finally! I almost forgot they were gonna play this thing. Despite the ridiculous wait, this is really an incredible match up of star players. Ohtani? Judge? Betts? Stanton? Freeman? Soto? Cole? Goddamn, that is some serious FIREPOWER. I’d bet just about anything that this will be the highest rated Fall Classic of the last 20-30 years, and certainly of all time when you factor in the Japanese tv sets that will be tuned if for this.

ooh, MLBTR says former pitcher Rudy May died at age 80. Played HS ball at Castlemont of Oakland and had long ML career. Pitched for Yanks vs. Dodgers in 81 WS.

    Aaron Boone vs Dave Roberts

    Tweedle Dee vs Tweedle Dumb.

These guys, Roberts especially, have had the most stacked rosters for the past 8-10 years and they have one COVID candy-ass world series win to show for it.

The Ghosts of New York 2024

I see dead players: A fresh-faced bass player from Berkeley, a screwball, a gyre of Cuban cigar smoke, an orange crane spear fishing in a royal blue pool near Idlewild Airport, his teammate behind the plate, Oisk, a well dressed baby bull from Ponce, and an ebullient kid playing stickball up in Harlem.

They grace the laundry room of a grand old apartment I used to visit in Van Cortlandt Park, back when the Bronx was burning and the Mets and Giants were cellar dwellers. There’s a bag of clothes I need to donate to Goodwill next to a hamper of socks that need darning that haven’t been worn since The Splash was in its Hey Day.

Even if the Dodgers do or don’t suffer a humiliating defeat in the World Series, this will have been the most wistful and thoroughly entertaining season since 2025.

I don’t get that dashboard hula dance the bums do when they get a hit. They have seen replays, right?

Another example of how analytics cost a team a game in the WS. Star pitcher. Game 1 starter and recent Cy Young winner removed after 6 innings. 1 run. 4 hits. 89 pitches. Yankees wouldn’t have pitched the 6th guy in there bullpen who hadn’t pitched in a month if Cole finishes 7th. A quick inning and he would have started the 8th.

Pitching around Betts? Why? Let alone bringing in a guy who hasn’t pitched in a month?

    Booner Boner.
