A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The Ugly Truth

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 29, 2024

At this point it’s painfully obvious that the Dodgers are the better, more versatile team. Embarrassed for Judge. He needs to get into therapy or something.

Hey, if they get swept that would be quite the burn, aye? Loo and MacDog, how would New Yorkers feel about getting swept?

Flaherty Yamamoto and Buehler have given up 3 runs in 16.2 innings. Don’t think anyone saw that coming. Yanks led AL in runs HRs BBs OB and OPS, second in slugging. 7-2 in post season coming in.

Have seen comments re: AL 2024 was weaker league than NL and Dogs faced tougher competition overall.

Good points. Dodgers bottom guys have hurt Yanks while Ohtani is 1-11 and other than double hasn’t been a factor. Edman has 4 hits, 2 doubles and HR. Last night they walked him batting 9th and he scored. Enrique hurt them again, and Lux got on stole a bag and scored.

Yes xoot, me too. I’m coaching kid who has Asian/Euro parents, and I texted Mom his nickname should be Guero as he’s rather pale. Unfortunately I’m unaware how to use the proper diacritical marks on phone for that one.

shoot me an email if you get a chance in upcoming off season. wgb730sm@yahoo. Let me know what you’re reading, and hearing about UK basketball.

I’m enjoying that the guy who could have come home been Legendary with none of the NY pressure has melted under the scrutiny like a little flower…not sure I want to play the game of chasing Soto for massive amounts of money to then watch him sign back with the Yankees. I’m investing zero mental energy in that idea. Maybe a short two year deal for Goldschmidt instead of a massive Alonso deal also maybe the wiser course and let Eldridge develop into a summer call up while he improves defensively at AAA while we see if his bat sticks. Goldschmidt can be a DH after and in 2026….

7 of the 12 WNBA teams have fired their headcoaches in this off-season so far, some of them play-off teams. Yikes. Not a high job-security job.

I didn’t appreciate Bosa’s little stunt with the hat. I’m guessing he took it off, though, before he went in the locker room, like a coward.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on October 29, 2024 at 11:26 am

Nor did I appreciate it. Bosa is a genius on the field. Off it, not so much.

Players are free to espouse their own candidate views — at least so far — we’ll see after the election. Just don’t push the candidate views on the field, the sideline, or make me see/hear them in pre-game and post-game radio or TV when I have no ability to avoid being an unwilling viewer of the antics. If Bosa wants to look like a dope and push the MAGA candidate, he needs to go to Madison Square Garden, not on the TV post-game. Comparing to Kapernick and the kneel down, my POV on that was he was not pushing a particular candidate. He was respectfully bringing attention to a broad, civil rights issue, not acting like a jackasz barging into a post-game. A big difference, in my book…

Saw this on CNN and was disgusted. Ironically, the ONLY reason that we know about this today is because everyone wants to be a social media star and there are so many ways for a celebrity or quasi-celebrity to “act out” and get their moronic message out.

It should be pointed out though, that Bosa is no different from the dopes that populated the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc., in the 1960s and 1970s, except back then, they didn’t have the “megaphone” to accomplish it. Even more important, back then, I can count ONE PERSON who did it effectively and was mostly loved for it (except from the right wing nuts). That person was Muhammad Ali . . . He probably was one of the main reasons how the term, “anti-hero” came about.

I read that the T-Wolves’ Anthony Edwards has already fathered several children by several different women. You have to wonder about his IQ.

The NBA is boring to me now. I watched the Kings win a game against a weak Portland team last night, and it was pretty boring. The three-point shot is killing the NBA game. I don’t know what can be done about that, though. The three-point line won’t be going away. Here’s the typical NBA game:

High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3. High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3. High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3. High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3. High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3. High screen and roll, and then a drive or kick-out for the 3.

I miss the WNBA season already, where you get post-play, more mid-range, more passes and cool cuts to the basket, more fast-breaks.

The Yankees are looking fraud-ish. They beat up on mediocre pitching in their little joke of a ballpark during the regular season, and now they’re facing tough pitching and they’re laying one of the most massive eggs laid in World Series history.

  11. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on October 29, 2024 at 12:10 pm

I haven’t watched a single pitch of this WSeries, live or on video highlight. Just a statement — I don’t care for either team, I have no interest even though it’s baseball, still my favorite sport — I think.

Baseball has real issues, I’m afraid it’s heading to a larger version of the NHL — a niche sport in this country. It will still probably be very popular for a long time in Latin America and Japan. The huge strikeout numbers, tons of no-name dudes throwing 100 mph for half or more of the game, and related lack of real athletic action seems a big problem IMO, that is not something the pitch clock and carpet-sized bases can fix.

As for the Giants, good luck to Buster, he’s going to need it…

  12. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on October 29, 2024 at 12:17 pm

Spot on zumiee, “The three-point shot is killing the NBA game.”

Said this last week (and perhaps, numerous times before). Similarly, “pitching specialists” are killing MLB, e.g., Yankees have struck out 11, 7, and 13 times in each of the playoff games . . . Moreover, that’s the MO of the league, either feast (bombs) or famine (SOs).

One other thing, Winder said something that’s worth mentioning and pisses me off more in regard to the Giants situation. Specifically, Winder said, “Totally hate the Dodgers, but hate the way the Giants have played the last couple of years even worse. It’s our own fault we aren’t even close to being competitive.”

Bums have won 9 of the 10 Division titles going back to 2015. Other than 2021, the Giants have been MIA. How in the hell does that happen when we are financially on or near par with the Yankees, Bums, Mets, Padres, Red Sox, etc.? Think about that for a couple of minutes.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on October 29, 2024 at 12:29 pm

A decade or so of Giants quality play being mostly MIA is totally on ownership. It is laughable that Baer and this son of the MAGAnut Johnson billionaire promise that he/they desperately want to win championships — that is their goal. EVERY organization says that. Few consistently do the things necessary to live up to that promise and be in the playoff hunt more often than not. The Giants have failed pretty miserably since 2014. Except for the weirdly wonderful 2021 season, the turnstile dumpster diving of Farhan and poor mental and physical play on the field the last half decade has been a farce in the face of that promise. I hope Buster can stop the facade of caring, and do some real things to clean up an organization from soup to nuts so that player draft and international talent acquisition and development is paramount, both pitching and position players…

Winning WS is pretty dang hard, and even more so with all WC teams added. More chances of team getting hot at right time etc. etc.

I remember 1962 and how it ended…Giant didn’t even get in another one til 89 Quake Series, then 2002, before 2010 happened, followed by 2 more. Glorious, unprecedented times.

As far as being competitive with LA, here’s LA win totals for last 3 seasons: 100 111 and 106. So no one else in practically all baseball has. If you add this year that’s 415 wins over last 4 seasons.

Playoff record in those 3 previous years: 7-12, beaten by 84 W DBax in 3 last year NLDS, 89 W Padres 3-1 year before NLDS, and WS Champ 88 W Braves 4-2 in NLCS 2021. Rather be them and just get into playoffs. Maybe it’s just baseball gods smiling upon Dogs this year.

I don’t think Giants can just throw $$ at problems and hope to solve issues and I rather doubt they go that route this off season under Posey. Still hoping for meaningful baseball as long as possible in 2025 and we are all back safe and sound by ST.

  14. willedav's avatar willedav said, on October 29, 2024 at 2:58 pm

Maybe it is just baseball gods, but Dodgers have made some impressive deals this season. they signed Teoscar Hernandez to 1 yr $23 million deal as FA and he’s had tremendous power laden season. Anyone could have signed him off M’s who let him walk and he raised OPS by 100 points hitting 33 HRs.

They acquired Jack Flaherty as rental from Tigers team that weren’t sure they were really contenders then for couple prospects. At time Flaherty had ERA of 2.95.

In big 3 team deadline trade they added versatile Tommy Edman who has played well now that he’s regained health and pen guy Kopech who had 1.13 ERA in 24 games for LA after he had 4.74 in 43 games with ChiSox. That’s 4 productive player additions, all very smart moves that have paid off handsomely.

If this is indeed the Dodgers’ year, then so be it. Lord knows they’ve been among the best teams in the game for many consecutive years now but haven’t done well in the post-season until (apparently) now. If the Giants want to stop LA from winning any more WS, they’re going to have to get back to the business of building an enduringly winning team, instead of the stop-gap waiver wire / dumpster diving we’ve witnessed the past half dozen years. A bit sad to think the Flap will be down and out this off-season so we can’t talk about all the amazing moves Buster and his new wonderful GM (TBD) will make to get us back to relevance again…

If the Warriors are really hell-bent on shooting more 3s, and telling Kuminga to do so they are really really stupid.

Kuminga and Wiggins need to play more inside ball. Drive and kick gets really old after, uh, 7 years.

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on October 30, 2024 at 7:15 am

Wound up being pretty fun game though. small ball guys (Podz Hield Moody Waters! GP2) killed Pels, scoring 92 of 124. Kuminga had best game of season so far. No Curry Wiggins Melton/no problem. Zion had 7 turnovers, NO had 23 of them. GS starters had 2.
