A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Statement Game

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 10, 2025

I got in my car, flipped on KNBR and it was Kuip (or Miller I forget who) saying “And Trevino walks the #9 hitter walking in a run and now the Reds lead 6-1.” Oddly, I wasn’t really deterred. I had a long drive in front of me, why not keep listening? And I’m glad I did. Slowly they chipped away with Wilmet finally tying the game 6-6 with yet another bomb he snuck around the left field foul pole.

Screw this, I’m finding a place to watch the game. So I pulled off the freeway and got there just in time to catch the 9th and 10th. Watching Yaz stand there in his “night night” pose was a thing of beauty.

Yeah Wynns drawing a walk from Trivino was definitely low point. V did make it through 90 pitches/2 outs into 6th and only gave up 5 hits including couple cheapo ones in Reds big inning. He was still throwing hard when he left and K’d 9 of the Reds. Still work in progress.

Guys that followed him (Rodriguez the good Rogers Walker Miller) shut down Reds for 4 innings on 1 hit 0 BBs 6 Ks, setting stage for big comeback.

Speaking of night night, Warriors gave one away last night to Spurs as old buddy Harrison Barnes hit game winning 3 at buzzer. Late turnovers/inability to get stops in clutch time. Closing lineup got out played by SA team minus Wemby and their bench (Champagnie Keldon Johnson) lit GS up for 50 points. Slid back to 7 spot.

yeah, that was irritating. The Dubs are better with Jimmy obviously but still too way inconsistent. Win the last 2 then Memphis loses 1 and we snag the 6 seed.

Yeah, they beat Denver, the Lakers and Memphis and lose to Miami, Atlanta and San Antonio.

Scheduling did them no favors either. 7 games in 10 days to close the season?

If anyone needs the break, and not the play-in, it’s the Warriors. They gave away so many games early, and now these last few.

Memphis has their own gauntlet with the T-Wolves at home tonight and Denver on the road tomorrow night.

Hopefully we can take the Yanks series and just maybe the media will look our way.

I’d rather they stay in the shadows. Like Yaz said yesterday, there’s no pressure on us. We are just gonna go about our game and see where we go.

Really can’t believe Buster made this big a difference as really the only changes are Adames at SS and Verlander pitching instead of Snell.

The lineup is settled a lot more, what with Ramos holding down LF (and Contorto out of here) and Fitz at 2nd, but not much different than the team at the end of last season.

Yeah, even though we have most of the same players as last year everything looks and feels different. Last year we would have made multiple trips back and forth from Sac. by now. And I don’t want the media gushing about us I would just like to read things like what nice come back and win we had on to finish the Cincy series. The Athletic didn’t even mention it in the many newsletters I got the next moring.

Mostly set line ups, most position players knowing their starting roles will be stable, and marking themselves *safe* from constant gerrymandered lineups and revolving doors… and overall just knowing a real baseballer is in charge now. These are all intangibles that can only be measured in the team’s performance, which so far has shown that yes, it’s a whole new feeling at the yard now.

Hey guys! Still fully immersed in unpacking and getting used to our new WA home. Hard to explain, but I know a few of you (Winder, Loco, Unca (when he’s in Montana), snarkk, Bassbaldy and a couple of others can relate) – specifically, all the stress of CA driving was beginning to diminish after I left Redding, where I had lunch with a retired friend that use to work for me in USBR. Got even better when I stopped the first night in Bend, Oregon . . . and complete relaxation, when we hit our home in Nine Mile Falls, WA. Sheesh, even on HW 50 in Placerville and Folsom, folks are doing 80 MPH + w/10-20 feet behind your bumper and suddenly veering into their right lane (yep, not their left lane) to pass you. Daily occurence. Thinking they are in Le Mans or some BS. Unfuckingbelievable.

    Go Giants!

Welcome to your new home, Steve! Hope it is just what you and Michele need and want. Was it really the Cali traffic that finally drove you out? (haha, drove you out)….

No, but it was a biggie. LA fires were the last catalyst amongst plenty of other reasons.

Hope you enjoy your new home blade Washington is a special place to live. I had to laugh when I read what you said about being on the other side of Redding. It does mean you made it past a whole lot of insanity. I am on the other side of the world now but for no more than 3 years I believe and plan on going back up there eventually if health permits. Take care.

Winder, I was so excited when I passed Redding and got up into the Yreka and Weed area. Just stress and everything decompressed from my mind and body. Even more so, once we arrived in Nine Mile Falls.

Just got through all the comments for the last 3-4 days and 2 particularly stick out – Willie’s regarding Z (outstanding insight Willie and agree on reflection, i.e., not too much has changed). Unca’s comment at 1:02pm earlier today does as well.

Insofar as players obtained (Adames and Verlander) or come back from injury (Lee) – just me, but that doesn’t explain the excellent start. Maybe it is attitude, as some of you have alluded to, along with the stress of the constant platooning and/or potential bus trip to Sacramento??? Dunno . . . What I do know is this – it’s way too early to crown these guys “Wild Card” shoo-ins, much less Division Champions. Nevertheless, I get the early enthusiasm and hope it continues.
