A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Yankees!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 11, 2025

Doubt they play today, there is a lot of rain in the forecast. Who knows. If they do play I am extremely confident we win, at least confident we take this series. We have better pitching than they do and we are better defensively. They’ve got those bats. Big deal. Good pitches will render those bats weak and meaningless.

Hey, any Flap HOFers gone back to Finnerty’s yet? What’s it like?

Thank you Willie and Unca. Bone tired here and just got caught up with unloading and unboxing all the stuff we bought from CA in my truck. Poor Michele was a “trooper,” but virtually surrounded by stuff I couldn’t load in the truck bed. Hi-lights were meeting a Redding friend for lunch; along with 2 McDonalds stops (I think I still have indigestion). lqtm.

Unca, Michele and I went to the school the 2nd day we were here to register her and lo and behold, they are in the midst of their Spring break (as CA was). So, I guess she doesn’t start school until Monday. She’s been wonderful . . . helping me do things, such as unloading boxes and folding her clothes, etc. Not bored yet.

That’s awesome. It’s prolly for the best as Michele can get used to the place before hitting the school.

Agree Unca. I had a terrible experience when we moved from Sunnyvale to Hawaii on one of my mom’s whims when I was 12-13 years old. I think I have told everyone about that experience.

Don’t think I heard that story!

Yeah as Flav said pitching has been mostly great–Giants are second NL only to Mets in fewest runs allowed per game and team ERA. See if that holds up vs. teams on the trip that are gonna hit better than the Reds. Ray Hicks and Webb, top of rotation vs. Yanks.

Giants Hitting is middle of NL pack or worse in lot of areas, 11th BA (.228 yikes) 14th OB 9th OPS. Like to see Adames get going/Ramos continue to hit well on road.

Yanks are first AL East, Phils tied with Mets for first in NL East and Angels (!) are 8-4 2nd in AL West, having won 7 of last 10.

No, we stayed at the one in Bend, Oregon (after speaking with the front desk lobby person about security).

I live in NJ and work in Manhattan. Today is typical depressing early April day in northeast with light rain and low 40’s temps. The primary reason Giants-Yanks might play tonight is that tomorrow’s forecast is equally forboding with 90% chance of rain and high of 45 degrees. With no off day Monday they must squeeze in game tonight or tomorrow even if they play two on Sunday.

I have not been to new Finnerty’s near Empire State Building but have fond memories of old Finnerty’s on 2nd Avenue, particularly during Giants World Series run from 2010-2014.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on April 11, 2025 at 10:08 am

oh that’s good local intel. So the new Finnerty’s is at a totally new location.

      • Dean's avatar Dean said, on April 11, 2025 at 10:30 am

Yes Craig. Old Finnerty’s on 2nd Ave closed in 2020 when Covid shuttered the world. New Finnerty’s opened earlier this year on 33rd St directly across from Empire State Building. As I mentioned, I haven’t been to new location and don’t know if it has intimacy and neighborhood sports bar feel that old location had. But it is great to have SF sports bar back in midtown Manhattan.

great headlines on Twitter. Are the Yankees Playing Today? Damn the Torpedos! Who Shot the Tariffs?

looks like too much rain in ny until Sunday, not to mention the temp tonight. Helluva city for unscheduled off days.

      Ha!

      Where was the deputy?

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 11, 2025 at 12:17 pm

Good one Xoot. Perhaps I am crazy, but I bought significant shares of LRCX and COP (both at 52 week lows) April 4th, as I am trying to parlay my CA home proceeds into significant gains to make up for the dummy’s on again, off again, tariff moves. So far it has paid off. However, you never know what the “2 legged stool sample” will do hour to hour, much less day to day.

tech stocks skew everything. I’m ready to weather it out, although I do wonder about the bond market. I assume the plutocrats won’t allow Trump to fuck that up.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 11, 2025 at 3:30 pm

Yep. May end up working another year instead of retiring next year, but we’ll see. It may be a few more years.

  6. willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 11, 2025 at 12:08 pm

Imagine being a teammate and able to run around NYC with Mays in 60s. Giants played everyone in NL 18 times so that’s 3 road trips every year.

Is Flores only ex Met left?

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 11, 2025 at 12:22 pm

lol . . . Willie, I would have given my left nut to get a “cup of coffee” on Willie’s Minnesota minor league team (running around with him and everyone else in the humid, mosquito ridden Twin cities). Sure everyone else here would too.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on April 11, 2025 at 6:54 pm

Cold, windy, long breaks, and Ray had thrown close to 100 pitches.

98 pitches by end of 4

  26. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on April 11, 2025 at 7:35 pm

Watching the Yankees broadcast and during the rain delay, they’re discussing why Boone hates to give up games . . . But these idiots want it both ways, i.e., at the same time, they are saying that Boone recognizes that he’s already burned so many relief pitchers during a rain delayed game and that’s why he is probably consulting with the umpires to call the game. Freaking hilarious. Giants (at least tonight) have their number, so yeah, Boone better throw in the towel, as the Giants are going to continue to whip their ass tonight – should the game continue.

  27. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 11, 2025 at 7:50 pm

Game mercifully called!! The Giants win Theeeee Giants Win!!

  28. Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on April 11, 2025 at 7:52 pm

Woo HooLee, the game has been called and the Giants win 9-1 with Ray getting the win.

    • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on April 11, 2025 at 8:04 pm

Funny, I didn’t know that, a starter can get the win without going 5 innings if the game is shortened? Is that a baseball fun fact I have lived my entire life not knowing?

      • Locojuan's avatar Locojuan said, on April 11, 2025 at 8:28 pm

I wasn’t sure about it either, Paul. Makes sense to me though, kinda like the ST rules. Ray deserved it, pitching in that shit storm against the Yanks, I’d say he earned it.

      • Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on April 11, 2025 at 8:35 pm

Indeed. Ray is a bulldog and pitching so well.

  29. Dean's avatar Dean said, on April 11, 2025 at 8:35 pm

GREAT! start to probably most challenging road trip all season. 10 games in 10 days. 7 games vs teams among Top 4 in all of MLB followed by cross country trip (no day off) for 3 games vs Angels team 3 games above .500. I believe goal of this road trip is to protect 9-3 start (not including tonight) to season and return to Oracle on April 21st no worse than 6 games above .500. In other words a 5-5 road trip. May sound conservative given 10-3 start to season but MLB longest season of four major professional sports and key is to leverage certain winning streaks and avoid prolonged losing streaks.

Missed most of the game. But caught the highlights and it’s good to see we can play in bad weather and still have some fun. Lee has turned out to be a monster and that’s just what we need.
