A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Back To The Land of the W’s

Great bounce back win. I am not into this Doval stuff, he is only good when he’s good. When things go sideways he goes with the *things*. He’s like deck chairs inside a cruise ship navigating through a hurricane. No thank you. Walker has great stuff and the right temperament for the job.

And I’d keep Bird Dog where he is. With all these 5 and divers we’ve got he is going to be an indispensable super weapon as the season wears on…..

Birdsong for the win!! Huge effort, and a big win. Not a fan of Doval either (just watching him slooowly walk around the mound is excruciating) he deserves credit for last night. A torture 9th would have been tough to watch after Sunday. i was at the game Sunday and that sucked!

Yes last night was good for Doval (throw strikes and get ahead with hard stuff), but have to see more of it before trusting him with 9th. Giants pen went 4 scoreless while they scored 3 times to win game vs. Brewers pen. Nice bounce back for Birds and love this role as bridge guy who can go multiple innings when necessary. At some point rotation will need fill in guys to start and he’ll be ready.

Bottom of order Wade Jr. Flores Bailey Fitz: 6-12 with 2 BBs 3 runs 3 rbis

I’d rather have Birdie starting and Hicks doing long relief, but as long as they keep stacking up the wins, I’m cool with either.

Walker should be solidifying his role, not coming unglued.

Wade waking up would be a major help to the team.

Walker should be the man closing but I have a gut feeling he’s not totally healthy as Melvin keeps saying he’s unavailable to throw? Your closer that can’t go back to back games worries me.

Walker went back to back. Guys are not on 100%. Ball 4 to Trout clearly a strike. He has been one of the best closers in baseball. A whip 2nd half last year of 0.8.

In 8 innings before Sunday he had given up 1 run and 4 hits. One bad outing shouldn’t have people going crazy:)

short back to back too–day game after night game.

BoMel is the one saying he can’t go back-to-back. Is there an issue with his back?

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on April 22, 2025 at 2:07 pm

he’s still the very back end of the pen.

Giants picked up Quintana (SP tonight for Brewers) off waivers from Angels in 2021. Wasn’t very good and they let him go end of the year. Pitched fairly well for Mets last season, Brewers paying him $4 mil. So far 2 decent starts, only 1 run allowed in 12 innings.

Good to see Villar get a knock vs. Angels…likely gets another start tonight. Giants promoted Victor Bericoto from Richmond to Sac to play 1b there.

Bryce Eldridge hit a homer in his first AB of the season. (ST wrist injury, iirc.)

Birddog looked great but what else would you expect from a guy named Birddog….all those dudes are solid.

Oy, rough AB for Matos. Swung at 3 pitches, none of which were strikes, and wound up inning ending GIDP.

Not much better the second time up.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 22, 2025 at 8:12 pm

        No he sure didn’t

. Quintana making most of Giants look silly with changeup. I think Fitz saw 4 of them last AB and still couldn’t do anything.

Anyone else besides me love these “City Connect” uniforms? Hope they wear them frequently this year. Nice psychedelic vibe.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2025 at 8:37 pm

I like them a lot Blade they bring back the summer of love Haight Asbury Psychedelic look to perfection and the bold lettering is cool.I really love the easy to read name of the players and the big numbers orange front/White on back stand out bigtime!

These are so much better then the orange ice cream where the back was never complete for the numbers and tiny as hell letters for the players , they were hideous!!

Well we’re going to be 0-2 with these new ones but no matter what they’re still easy on the eyes 👀

Me too AK, albeit, the “young pup” mrsprtdude disagrees . . . that’s because his family did not grow up during the Summer of Love.

This iconic period, most notably in the summer of 1967, saw a large influx of young people drawn by the hippie counterculture, emphasizing peace, love, and freedom. I still distinctly remember my mom breaking her leg and going to Golden Gate park and coming back with every inch of her leg cast in autographs and psychedelic flowers, etc. Sheesh, my mom took my brother to see Led Zeppelin in the City.

Great stuff about your mom ,Blade,it’s ironic you brought up Led Zeppelin, I saw them at Kezar Stadium along with The Tubes in 1973 just a great show, and I’m thinking maybe your Mom and brother was there too, that would be Wild to know..

Yep, that was the venue AK.

    2DP’s by Matos yikes 😱

Nice dig out at 1st by Villar plus that double I like what I see from him so far, he will definitely play against LH pitchers and Flores just DH..

“Well, that’s the ballgame. Not the result we were hoping for tonight, but that’s baseball. For those of you heading home after the game, please drive safely and buckle up. And remember, this message to drive safely is brought to you by Jiffy Lube in San Jose . . .”

Or whatever it is AK says.

Augh. Some BAD baseball this inning:(

I’m the opposite. I don’t care for the city connects..

Trivino, who played his college ball at Slippery Rock University (near Pittsburgh PA), sped down a helluva greased skid there. DFA his ass, put Hicks in the pen and Birdsong in the rotation and promote Beck if Black or even Hjelle.

  17. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2025 at 8:48 pm

I’m off the Hicks bandwagon, he throws way to many pitches/ hits/walks granted worse game of year by Giants but to the pen for me.Birdsong moves into the rotation, And Melvin’s pet prospect,Lou(Lee Trivino can go hit golf balls at Augusta!!

Callup Whisenhut for a second lefty out of the pen would be nice as well só Miller is not overworked..

Quite the miserable loss. A very disappointing performance by the Gigantes: Hicks’ poor appearance and the ‘ol RISP issue is back. But, on the bright side, Flores looks as dialed in as I’ve ever seen him, and Lee is all-around exciting to watch. Those are some sweet things to savor.
