We Have A Huge Problem
This is starting to get messy. Hopefully there is something physically or mechanically wrong with Walker because if this is mental we now have 2 head cases in the bullpen at the most critical time of the game. Thank God Melvin didn’t let him blow another game.

Similar to Hicks/Birdsong starting pitcher debate. Too early in season to yank Hicks from starting rotation. Need fuller body of work to definitively determine whether Hicks more effective as #4 starter or out of bullpen.
Have same opinion on Walker/Doval as closer. Too early to make switch, especially considering Doval’s known predilection for turning 3 run 9th inning leads into nail biters. If Walker injured or has tired arm, Melvin should shut him down for 1-2 weeks.
Gutty performance by Giants both Monday and Wednesday following Sunday meltdown in Anaheim. Another strong showing from Roupp would be sweet today.
Well, based on early returns, both are struggling. MoTel has been hinting there’s something wrong with Walker, and he did have back issues to start the season, so the deal should be rest if there is a problem. He certainly struggled trying to go back-to-back.
we have four potential closers. Tranq, Rodriguez, Walker and Hicks.
ok, but how many games will the 2 head cases blow before Melvin gets around to pitching the other 2 guys. He and Buster aren’t known to be great “shufflers”. Every game is critical.
Tranq is dumb, not deranged. He’s improving slightly. Walker has hit a bad patch, much too early in the season. Both will benefit from more off days. Walker may need more than that. But he’s smart. Rodriguez and Hicks would fit in perfectly. Birdsong deserves to start. There are three relievers on the forty languishing in Sac better than Trivino. The choices are myriad.
Hicks? Not likely. He’s more erratic than Walker AND Doval. Say what you will about Doval, but his WHIP is nearly half of Hicks’ at 0.82 (Hicks is 1.54).
They could maybe ease Rodriguez in, but there’s no way a three-headed closer situation works. I could see Walker going on the IR for a bit. They’d prolly put Rodriguez in as the backup mainly because Rogers is a disaster closing.
Hicks last 4 starts 21 IP 28 Hits allowed,13 walks ,a lead leading 20 Earned Runs allowed with a WHIP of 1.54!!! Seriously do anyone thinks Birdsong would Birdshit like that theirs NO WAY..
Right now it’s Webb&Roupp 1-2 in rotation for me but I’ll reset the starters..
Webb,Birdsong,Ray,Roupp,Verlander that’s their best 5 starters imo ..
Last year Hicks was strong out the gate then faded. Over the off season it was written about how they would address that. Maybe we are seeing that process in the works. Hopefully, Hicks can settle in and go deeper into the season but so far it ain’t looking good.

I suppose this move from BP to starter is not an easy transition or we’d be seeing it more often around the league. Hicks was very good early last year, even excellent at times, until he ran outta gas. I’m hoping coaching staff has a good read on him and are willing to abandon the experiment if need be. The challenge is to not let him do too much damage to season before that can be properly assessed. I’m sensing 2 more starts and if he hasn’t begun trending better then we have to consider changing his role.

Birdsong should replace Hicks as starter; this is obvious. Doval has already become closer by default. Walker needs to go on IL so he can get his mechanics figured out.
