A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

The SF Gritty’s

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 27, 2025

They did it again. Gritted out a win. Grinded. Whatever you want to call it. Koss with a perfect bunt. Bailey just ending that shit immediately. Wonderful win. I’m not complaining about being 18-10 and in first place in the NL West, but maybe we could start hitting a little more?

Koss (!) and Huff at bottom of lineup got rally started that tied game up. Huff absolutely crushed one to deep RCF. He’s a big dude.

Walker (quoted by Slusser in Chron) mentioned making some mechanical adjustments, so hopefully that helped him get sorted out. Nice to send Joc back to clubhouse with his buddies to end it.

Tremendous W for GS last night minus Butler. That might have been Rockets best chance to stay in series in game they led by 13 early before Steph and others got going. Rockets just can’t shoot for shit, and got burned by often clueless Buddy Hield. He can be exasperating to watch but man Houston just needs one guy on that team that can shoot. Bunch of bricklayers.

Or someone as smart as GPII aware of driving lanes and how and when to cut to hoop. Great to see him lay out D Brooks. The Great Karmatic Equalizer has last word.

That was just awesome. Brooks whining about physical play is about the funniest shit ever. GP II really killed it in the 4th.

Hield getting stolen on by Adams was exasperating! Yeah, tough tough win. Dray was dominant on D and had a hell of a game. Jaylen Green said after the game, “all Dray does is talk” after Jaylen scored 9.

Since the Rockets haven’t what a championship in 30 years they have little smack to talk about! Yeah Draymond can talk all about his rings to Jaylin..

I’m with ya Big Flavor, I too am feeling that “.. maybe we could start hitting a little bit more.” I sheepishly admit that fact while seeing us atop our division with the 2nd best record overall and having Yaz, Lee and Flores ranked high in offensive categories. Even Chappy, although BA is not great, is near the top in BB. Me too, I’m NOT complaining jez saying .. would like to see a bit more from the likes of Adames, Ramos & Bailey.

Looks like, for 2nd day in row, Koss is getting start at 2nd over Fitz. Wondering why?

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on April 27, 2025 at 12:37 pm

Just saw that Fitz is day to day due to “chest contusion” from dive he took going for ball against Bochy.

just tunning in I said to myself, eh, with Hicks on the bump, top 1st, probs 3-0 for Boch .. I was close .. now looking like Tex wants to give us those runs back, let’s hope!

Man Wade hammered 2 balls just foul.

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on April 27, 2025 at 1:43 pm

I didn’t mention Wade as someone id like to see improve his hitting because I’m rapidly losing confidence in him even being able to play at league average level. But yeah WilleD, the effort he is putting in is obvious. As much as I’d like to see the Giants hand forced to give Eldridge a shot, I loved the Late Night version of Lamonte and truly hope he can find himself at the plate

  8. willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 27, 2025 at 1:38 pm

And a third one for an at em. Dang what an unlucky inning all around.

idk why Hicks can’t K more guys with his stuff but 2 strike pitch to Joc and to Jung were outside and not on hands or in dirt.

Huge win by Dubs last night. Situation was red alert with Butler out.

Curry is beyond superhuman. The shots he makes that appear routine are anything but. He has to be one of the most finely conditioned athletes on the planet…

Obviously Bochy’s squad has bad base runners.Helm out by 10ft trying to get a double,Burger in 1st I don’t know wtf he was doing on Pederson’s double not scoring from second as the ball is rattling off the wall? Only Siemen’s cheap hit that Ramos could of caught if he didn’t backup first, so they got the 2runs..

    Koss ties it!

  12. willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 27, 2025 at 2:22 pm

Koss ties it up after Bailey thought he had one out of park, run down by CF.

    Yep, 3 hits through 5.

  15. willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 27, 2025 at 2:50 pm

Birds fought his way out of that, nice going. Pederson looked like he needed oxygen tank at 3b.

Wade has been terrible, but the last week of games (I have MLB package now for the 1st time ever) and he has been crazy unlucky the last 10 days. Every game he hits one or two bullets either just foul of right at someone.

That said.. He is close to an explosion! He will be at .200 by mid May. Still awful, but means a bunch of hits between then and now!

    PS I wanted Alonzo!

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on April 27, 2025 at 3:45 pm

good point Dude. It sure seems Wade’s been trying his damndest. Alonso would have been nice but with Eldridge in the wings maybe didn’t make sense for such expenditure.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 27, 2025 at 3:56 pm

I just think Alonso has been declining from big earlier HR/rbi totals (slugging dropped of 45 points last year, HRs down from 40s to 34 etc.) and would turn into next Bobby Murcer at SF, begging out after 1 year. In NYC and NL East he gets to play in warm weather humidity and some hitter friendly yards like Philly and ATL. We all know what summer in SF is like when fanbase is all bundled up for midweek night games. Mets offered him a big deal he turned down and no one else this offseason would meet his asking price.

I wanted RH power hitter too, but not Pete.

Just read Giants have had the hardest schedule in MLB to date. 23/29 games vs teams over .500 and the most road games of any team. Crazy!!

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on April 27, 2025 at 3:57 pm

Wow! Didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing Dude.

That was as crazy a walkoff as you will Ever see, and I thought I’ve seen them all!19-10 baby keep lumbering around the bases, whatever it takes!!

A 15-foot game-winning home run. Incredible. And great job by Birdsong and Doval.

19-10 with 10 wins when trailing by 2 runs or more. 9 series to date of which Giants have won 6 and split another.

Should we send Bochy a THANK YOU card?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on April 27, 2025 at 4:02 pm

Those kind of Ls gotta hurt. Bochy managed his ass off, with multiple mid inning pitching changes. Jackson was 6th guy he used and it was over in 1 pitch on IF dribbler and 2 throwing errors. Ouch

  28. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on April 27, 2025 at 4:29 pm

Terrible base running by Ramos, not even looking at Matt Williams until he’s at second while Matt has been waving him to third since Ramos was halfway to second. Maybe the scoring doesn’t happen if Ramos had run the bases properly…

    • Macdog's avatar Macdog said, on April 27, 2025 at 5:01 pm

Yeah, I was surprised Ramos was easing into 2nd when it looked like the ball died after it hit off the wall. And yeah, it all worked out for the best.

    • Dean's avatar Dean said, on April 27, 2025 at 5:59 pm

Astute observation you made. And spot on according to Melvin’s post-game presser. He said if Ramos hadn’t glided into second but picked up on Williams waving him to third, Ramos would have reached third easily and never drawn throw from right fielder. But Ramos’s hesitation made right fielder believe he had play at third. Errant throw, Ramos scampers home. Game over.

Giants getting some breaks including Ramos inside-the-park infield “blast” and Bailey’s squib hit in 9th yesterday. That’s ok. Giants need to ride wave as long as possible.

Dick Barnett died at age 88. Great lefty shooting guard from Knicks championship teams on early 70s and had stellar career in college at what is now Tennessee State. One of my early heroes and I’m sure lot of guys from NYC tried to imitate leg kick J.
