Disgusting Loss
It’s just one game. Colorado will win games this year. But goddamn this is the wrong time to go in the tank with a slump. And our bats are slumping. Hitting .228 as a team? AS A TEAM? Come on, that’s embarrassing. Verlander has gotten 6 or more innings in 3 straight. He’s no “5 and Dive” man. lqtm.
Colorado fucking sucks, we need to bend them over the next 3 games.
Nailed it BF..It’s time to shove some torpedo bats up the Rockies pie holes!
Geez that pathetic team is on pace to lose around 135 games their is no reason now that the Giants finally get some home games(is it me are they always collecting frequent flying mileage then any other team) which should hopefully get these bats going again. It’s not the pitching it’s only a few guys hitting and one of them Fitzgerald just went on the DL..
Rox series represents ultimate trap games. The White Sox, bad a team as I’ve seen since 1962 Mets first season, won 41 games last year. Rox can likely match or exceed that; before their “winning streak” started they were on pace to win about 25. They were gonna beat somebody.
ML hitters are in throes of 1968 level futility nowadays even if K zone is being called tighter as umps given less buffer zone and graded harder. Asking Posey to pry loose ML hitters sitting around somewhere is gonna be pretty tall order. They aren’t sitting around collecting dust. Most teams overvalue their prospects too, and prefer to hang onto all those years of control.
As for Rogers…last night was team leading 17th appearance, and only the 2nd time he’s been scored upon. And of course second time detractors chime in. He’s different but very effective as long as he’s not pitching 9th. League is hitting .190 off him, and twice already he has K’d the side with 75-85 mph pitch mix. No one is perfect.
There were a ton of guys available to sign. And yes, I’ll mention Pete Alonzo again.
Sure, but that was months ago and Posey wasn’t interested, whether it was exorbitant salaries for FAs or opt outs demanded. Nobody was complaining about Posey and GM when Giants had best record in NL a week ago.
back when they were averaging over five runs per game? Yeah, well, this standard LU and weak bench ain’t gonna do that again soon. Ramos and Adames are heating up as Chapman and Wilmer struggle. Lee is the only consistently dangerous member of the standard LU. Speaking of consistency, the Giants have used only 5 SPs so far. At least we know what to expect.
That’s unfair Willie. Chuck is making an accurate statement. Equally important, as I pointed out yesterday, with the link to the September 2024 Flap thread, not everyone was on board with the hiring of Buster (or at least, I wasn’t completely, and maybe snarkk as well).
Specifically, I thought back then and even more so after the “hot stove season” ended, that Buster may be nominally in charge, but the real power was Johnson Jr. “pulling the strings.” Or, as Unca just said, why wasn’t anyone else signed? Giants ownership are not poor, but cheap ass? Absolutely. Their focus is ONLY on making money, with the minimal “capex” required to do so.
Blade, most everyone including me wanted another bat–my preference was RH power hitter for OF. I never thought Posey was going to make a lot of changes and go FA wild like others wished though I wished he’d taken Burnes (and his opt out after 2 when Giants would be more certain about rotation) before signing Verlander.
He went in house for pitching coach, found his own GM and extended Chapman to keep him around for another 5 years. As for Alonso, Willy Adames hit 2 less HRs than Alonso did last year yet Pete couldn’t find any takers beyond going back to Mets for 1 yr. Adames is signed for 6 more years with salary jumping from $13 mil this year and next to $31 mil for years after. Bottom line Posey made long term commitments and got 2 guys he wanted, as opposed to previous admin. He’s his own guy and trickle down effect has been great so far.
What’s done is done. time to move forward, and I don’t know how Posey and Minasian plan to do that to help offense. Finding good hitters at a reasonable price or in trade for pitching in system right now is really hard all across baseball.
McCovey Chron on Bluesky: “After yesterday’s pinch-running failure, Brett Wisely now has the unfortunate distinction of being the first player I’ve ever seen to have a negative WAR without yet taking an at-bat or donning a glove.”
@Flav: Do you think Rispoli and Journalism can win Derby? Read track may be muddy.
I noticed Luan Machado is riding Derby horse for Brad Cox. He led Turfway Park riders in Florence KY, place I followed from start of this year with synthetic track. They had rough winter for weather in Kentucky, with many racing days missed due to snow and cold temps.
While former Oaxaca wonder Jerar heals help is on the way: “The Giants are expected to sign outfielder Daniel Johnson to a minor league contract, reportsShayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. The former big leaguer opened the season with the Mexican League’s Caliente de Durango.
“Johnson, 29, has posted comical numbers in the Mexican League’s supercharged run-scoring environment. He’s hitting .429/.512/.943 with five homers and three doubles through 41 plate appearances (10 games).”
“Oaxaca Wonder” Brilliant!
Willie, thank you for the thoughtful 1:37pm response. I think you perceive me as being critical of Posey . . . I’m not. I am unequivocally certain that he thought he could make a difference, with the support of ownership. However, as I alluded to above, someone else is manipulating the puppet so to speak and that person is Johnson Jr. In fact, if I recall correctly, he more or less sent the message prior to or at the beginning of the “Hot Stove” league, that the Giants would be cutting payroll. Pfffttt. A clear message to Posey that he would have to “add by subtraction” more or less.
Basically, what bassbaldy said at the end of yesterday’s thread is spot on, i.e., “Same flies, different shit.”
One other thing, “What’s done is done. time to move forward” is a good thing for most everything, particularly living one’s life, but we’re on the Flap and that’s what it is for – to discuss/argue issues/topics; disagree or agree or be neutral on any and all issues/topics brought up here; right?
Chapman and Adames are established major league hitters. They will come around. Fitz I like too. Wade will be better (although I too wanted Alonzo) because has hit MLB pitching, and no way he stays hitting under .100. The long term issue is Bailey. He had a great 1st half in 2023. He has been a bad hitter ever since. Long term we can’t keep an awesome defensive catcher who can’t hit unless his production is made up somewhere else. Where can we?
The holes we need to fill urgently is a 5th outfielder for Matos, who can’t hit. Is meckler still hurt? I just looked and he has played only 2 games for sacramento so far??
The ickiest thing in sports right now is the Bill Belichick “relationship” situation. It’s really gross. His relatives must be mortified. What a buffoon.
On a similar topic Melania probably can’t believe her dude is still alive. She didn’t figure that into her long-term plan.
The Giants, oh they’re pretty entertaining. They’re competitive. I appreciate that. It’s fun to watch Birdsong pitch. He seems to be figuring things out. It’s fun to watch Ramos hit. And Yaz has become fun to watch. His great catch in the gap last night was very cool. Adames plays a cool shortstop. The Giants are obviously better on defense this season. It’s keeping them in games. The hitting is its usual struggle.
The Fever’s first preseason game is on national TV this weekend. That’s pretty amazing. WNBA preseason games on national TV! I’m thinking not since Babe Ruth has a single player totally transformed the popularity of a league so much. Tiger Woods would qualify in that category, also, of course.
100%. I have never watched a women’s basketball game in my life until C Clark. Watched her Semi final and final games in NCAA. It is amazing to me the jealousy in the sport by the other players, who now travel charter and have had all their salaries go up, not to mention the national tv games now…
Lee not in the lineup again:(
Lee and Fitz out we have little chance unless some of the .200 guys gets some hits!!
According to lineup posted by MLB Gameday Lee is batting 3rd today … where did you hear he is not?
Just read an alarming article in the Athletic re strike zone. Previously MLB gave Umps a passing grade on any ball 2 inches outside of the line. Now 3/4 inch. Bad for us. Why? Bailey a master framer. He was best in MLB last year by a big amount. This year? 12th.
Also bad because vets Ray and Verlander live on the edges more than most. Last year close pitches 54% called strikes. This year so far 22%. BUMMER!
Just put the fucking roboumps in and call it a day. It is amazingly ludicrous that this shit still goes on. Gone will be the Krukow “this ump calls every fucking pitch a strike” bullshit.
Like the NFL FINALLY doing something about the 1st down calls on the field. Buffalo got hosed 3 different times in the AFCCG that would have won the game for them. And amazingly enough, 4 refs, one that was instrumental in that AFCCG, were demoted to college football.
If they can determine where a tennis ball hits the grass at 135 MPH, then they can tell where the ball in on a QB sneak.
A few things can be true at the same time. I was and still am all in on Posey running things. I also wanted off season moves to bring in a power bat to the OF, a short-time place holder at 1st who could actually produce (and there were indeed good options), and a new “co-catcher”, not just a sub-mediocre backup. That they brought in only Adames seemed insufficient but figured Buster wanted to give it at least a few months to “see what we got here” and then make necessary moves, and that’s fine too…. if they do indeed make adjustments. The injury to Fitz and overall low batting averages should perhaps move all of that up a bit, but we will see.
the only thing wrong with that is what the other teams in our division did compared to what we did.
Fricking Dubs just have to learn how to not turn the ball over. And Seay doing his best to ruin this game.
As long as the FO makes the necessary adjustments (and sooner rather than later), they’re currently in an ok position to compete in the division but really can’t afford any more backsliding.
Chap bomb!
chapman and Wilmer like this palooka.
110mph laser by Chapman!
Ray mowing them down so far no hits 5K’s 1 walk
fer fks sake! What was that at bat Wade?
Wade in the water is outta his depth.
warriors looking old and tired
Dubs drubbed.
U know the Dubs could of used some speed uhh like Kuminga but Kerr can’t stand the kid and for sure will be gone next year.Healthy scratch what a joke everyone else got in..
And thats a win for the Gs. Great pitching tonight.
Ray & Birdy for the shutout, that’s one way to stop a losing streak.
Birdie is a real find…
Yeah, potentially a great one.
Unreal how Kerr just ignores JK. He had some of his best games of the season against Houston, so natch he sits. Dumb.
Daniel Johnson, the Durango drubber the Giants signed earlier in the day, joined up with the Sac River Cats last night in time to hit a bases clearing triple. Minor League maven Jeff Young says, however, that it was a ball that probably should’ve been caught. Still, pretty quick ascent for Johnson.
The other guys don’t score, we win.
Ray looked great, heavy fastball use low pitch count. followed by 2 solid innings from Birds. 7 different guys got 1 hit each for SF. Wasn’t much, just enough for The City.
