A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Where Were You When Christian Koss Grand Slammed?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 14, 2025

That’s the question I might still be asking 20 years from now…..

We literally sat in our seats, looked up and we were down 3-0. I didn’t care. I came to the game with one goal in mind: to bring home a win. I would not be deterred from that goal. And I had to call on all my powers. But we got ‘er done.

Koss actually looks like a real ball player in the box. I was surprised.

Luke called the Naylor bomb a pitch before he hit it….

I’ve known these guys literally my entire life. Goddamn that was a great time……

Anyone know why a couple of the K’s are red? Some guy in front of me said it was a K to end the inning but he quickly admitted he was wrong about that.

My main men and also my nephew Jack and his friends.

Great pics, thanks Flav. Naylor bomb was mistake from Bivens he absolutely crushed.

I like Koss but was worried how far he was gonna have to hit a fly ball to score Flores from 3b. HR was his first XBH of season. What a great moment for him.

Appears Giants could use some more help on Loony Uni Tuesdays…just saying.

speaking of which, noticed couple DBax wore purple sleeves…as did some Giants (Wade Jr. and someone else)–what’s up with that? Violet is so not a Giants color.

  2. willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 14, 2025 at 6:37 am

In Chron story Koss admitted he effed up the handshake with Adames, who got after him for it. Koss said he’ll be better at it next time. Chron pic shows both of them with odd colored sleeves.

Couple weird stats: 6 different guys had 2 hits or more, including Wade Jr.–who are these guys? Only 3 batters, the guys with the HRs, drove in all the runs. Giants were 2-11 with RISP.

how was your view of Lee’s lightning bolt? Great game to attend.

knew it was gone immediately. Laser shot, curled right into the arcade. The Koreans in attendance went just a little more crazy than we did when that thing when out.

6 HRs at the O last night. A’s hit 5 in Latrine last night, though the last 2 were off IF Miguel Rojas in 9th as they smoked LA 11-1. Kid SS Wilson 4-5 2 bombs 4 rbis. Hitting .363

Sure hope Manfred isn’t screwing around with the baseball again.

Also, that no one trades pitching to DBax.

Watching the Pirates last couple days vs. Mets is evidence of no tampering with the baseball.

    Manfred again screws up.

Pete Rose is dead, so now his regular betting on baseball, his regular violation of the #1 cardinal rule in baseball, and massive lying about it while alive, suddenly evaporates? That decision seems to me as revealing that MLB wasn’t so much as enforcing rules as enforcing a vendetta against one player. Or, now recognizing that MLB is in bed with gambling like the other pro sports. If this veterans committee (who the hell is on it ?) votes Rose into the HOF in 2027 or whenever it is that its next vote occurs, then they better damn well vote in Bonds and Clemens. Contrary to Rose, what they did was more than arguably NOT against baseball rules until 2003 when the 2002 CBA took effect and testing started. Bonds had worked through most of his records by then. More to the point, we all know MLB and the Commissioner’s office and on-field management winked and nodded throughout the ’90s while hundreds of other players did the same thing or more as Bonds and Clemens. Nobody ever winked at players and managers betting.

The precedent was set with Ron Santo. Bonds and Clemens get in when they die.

Anybody know what the heck is going on with the radio broadcasts?

    One day it’s Miller+Flemm.

    Next day it’s Flemm+FPSantagedope

    Next, its Ritzo+FPS.

Then, maybe next it’s Flemm+Hunter Pence.

This round robin seems to happen on the road a lot, but at home, too. Like today, it’s Ritzo+FPS. I know K+K and I think Miller+Flemm signed contract extensions recently, so they must have the ability in those deals to bail on certain roady series and games, at home, too. It seems unpredictable — am I missing something?…

He probably has 2-3 weeks before the Giants make a decision about Encarnacion coming up from rehab assignment (correct me if I am wrong on the time line). Anywho, he has a little time to show he’s more than a “hologram” of his former self.

Made ballgame out of 8-2 deficit. DBax closer had to throw 36 pitches to finish them off.

RCs game last night: Whisenhunt 7 innings 3 hits 0 runs 0 BBs 9 Ks. If Hicks or Roupp needed IL stint all of a sudden…

Schmitt and Fitz started rehab each 1-3. Encarnacion sat, the new guy Johnson homered. Batting .194 with .500 slugging. I think Fitz and maybe Schmitt come up first, for Wisely and maybe Villar. But I don’t think Posey has any other plans right away.

I thought I saw something very recently about Bonds giving some tips to Wade. He definitely was squaring it up better the last game or two. Bonds also worked with Fitz, and Tyler’s numbers improved just before he got hurt. Bonds should be encouraged and incentivized to drop by the batting cage anytime he wants.

Hopefully some hitters returning soon from injuries will make a difference. Otherwise, yeah, I don’t know, I think the FO will have to start doing something to strengthen the offense. It doesn’t mean much yet, but G’s are now closer to 4th place than 2nd place in a downward trend that needs to be reversed, lest they start falling behind…

pretty freakin nice numbers for o’Hearn. if Wade had hit only .230, even without power, we’d probably have a few more wins .. we might be grumbling about him a bit but not ready to jettison him.

Seems like possible extra bat if 34 year old Yaz fell off from current .279/.380/.456. As a rental, wouldn’t be in way of Eldridge next year either unless he and Giants came to an agreement.

Simply amazed how the Bums are the walking dead, insofar as pitching, with Snell, Glasnow, Sasaki, and Ohtani either in rehab (Ohtani pitching only) or on the injured list, yet are playing at a 28-15, .651 clip. WTF?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on May 15, 2025 at 4:27 pm

7 of their 9 starters are over .800 in OPS with Ohtahi and Freeman at 1.100 and 1.200 respectively. Freeman is just killing it for them. Meanwhile Pete Alonzo is cruising at 1.004.

Ramos, Yaz, and Lee are the only ones on the G’s over .800.

  40. bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 15, 2025 at 4:31 pm

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 15, 2025 at 4:50 pm

Yes, agree BB . . . Meanwhile, the GMen, probably the 4th or 5th richest franchise (at $4 billion +), act like paupers.

I have little doubt that Johnson Jr. is so cheap, that when he saw a stranger drop a $10 bill, he picked it up, ran after the guy, and upon catching up, said to him, “Could you give me change for a ten?” lqtm

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 15, 2025 at 5:53 pm

Yeah, I hear ya Blade. I’m not informed on the Johnson family’s intrigue beyond that which I’ve gleaned from Flap banter — most baseball topics, if I heard it on the Flap, it has substance to it. Yet, I too have noticed the G’s reticence to fully fund campaigns. We did supposedly sign Adams to the biggest contract in G’s history but there were other issues that needed addressing and where is the response to all that? Bums have no hesitation pulling the trigger on just about anything & everything.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 15, 2025 at 6:59 pm

well not everyone they touch turns to gold exactly. They are paying Conforto $17 million and he’s been even worse than he was for Giants. Posey got OKs to extend Chapman and for Adames deal. No one else met Boras price for Pete Alonso either, til Mets gave him 2 year deal with opt out.

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 15, 2025 at 7:21 pm

Willie, where in the hell did I say that? Did I say one thing about the Bums never making a mistake? Read what I wrote again . . . My point is that they NEVER stop spending money, regardless if they fuck up on their choices. In fact, their tendency is to double down.

Conversely, if we make a mistake in signing someone, our history is that we get gun shy for a couple of seasons; and/or, say, “We were right in the thick of it and made our best effort to sign him” (e.g., Jon Lester, David Price, Yoenis Cespedes, Aroldis Chapman, Giancarlo Stanton, Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, and Carlos Correa). *

*This is just the last 10 years.

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 15, 2025 at 7:39 pm

I didn’t mean Bum’s are perfect. I did mean they are fearless. If a guy doesn’t work out, it doesn’t discourage them continuing to pursue anything they set their sights on. Or, so it seems.

    • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 15, 2025 at 7:35 pm

      • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on May 15, 2025 at 7:59 pm

Apologize to Willie than . . . My point stands though – Bums and Yankees have made mistakes, but more times than not, they reload, and don’t retreat. Same deal with the Red Sox and Phillies. I have to think it is due to the fans and local media excoriating them if they sense ownership is not doing its part to put the best product on the field. Fans wont stand for it.

Conversely, Giants fans are more laid back and the media rarely does its job here.

      • bassbaldy's avatar bassbaldy said, on May 15, 2025 at 8:45 pm

I cannot argue with that Blade. That’s what I was attempting to convey by saying Bum’s are ‘fearless’. Certainly could include Yanks in that statement. I think we are saying same thing.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on May 15, 2025 at 9:12 pm

We all have different views on Giants ownership and FA market. They hired Posey to take over from previous more risk averse regime, and he made couple long term deals for position players they approved. Creating a team that wins, and captivates fanbase, will ultimately attract more FAs to come here. But signing FAs to long term deals and throwing $$ around I don’t think is particularly wise thing to do in long run, nor very effective. Those Padres deals that pay guys like Machado Tatis Jr. and Bogaerts until their 40? no thanks.

The fast start notwithstanding, the Giants are doing what they did before Posey got here. And that’s not much. A team like St Louis isn’t busting the bank but they draft well and always seem to be in the mix with prudent FA signings.

The Dodgers (and Yanks) seem to draft well all the time, and trade prospects and decent young player all the time to make their team better. AND they spend.

We hope against hope that the farm is gonna come through while not going after guys. And I’ll point at Pete Alonzo again as a guy they SHOULD have tried a one-and-done year on because we DO have a guy who should be our starter next year in Eldridge. I don’t like the one-and-done deals unless there is someone waiting in AAA to move up.

Instead we get a hope and a prayer that Wade will be fine, and Villar will somehow magically be a .280 hitter.
