Gore Bay, Canada
Nice to see the Ken Mackenzie talk fire up at the end of the last thread. We don’t talk enough about that dude here….
Ugh, I loath these east coast trips. Despite Washington’s record they scare me. Young, explosive team. This trip could go sideways in a hurry.
Seem to remember disastrous road trip 2 years ago with Giants floundering vs. detroit before they got really good like now.
Something to think about…TA had column that listed potential FAs next year, and in it were bunch of hitters who signed deals that have opt outs and could go back on market. The list includes Pete Alonso, Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman for start.
What scares me is all the long term 8-10 year deals I see nowadays like Devers 10/$315. Sure FOs know front half of contract is when to expect most value but still–Cain and Lincecum (let alone Zito) deals ended badly, as did the long term ones post 2021 for Belt Crawford and Longoria. Posey contract got some heat here as health declined before rebound 2021.
I think SF under Posey has flipped narrative and it’s more attractive these days. Pitching is solid, Webb Adames Chapman (Boras guy) and Lee are locked up for few, plus Ramos could be next.
so question is: Should Giants be willing to go after and sign long term deals for future FAs?
Almost got stuck with that stiff Correa till the end of time…
True. I read something about Kyle Tucker (age 28), and what type of deal he would want going forward. I’ve seen comments elsewhere re: “well if Juan Soto is getting x” like $500 million for a guy who could be no more than a DH in few years, then what is so and so worth.
Alonso turned down 7 year deal earlier I think for like $175 and is off to great start. No idea what Bregman (age 31) would want…I just dunno what others here would think about Giants giving out long term contracts for top FA hitters that could be available.
This roadie looks like trouble, on paper.
Bad logistics (DC, Detroit, THEN Miami?), including at least a couple of LHPs looming, including the strikeout guy tonight. Although Gyros seem to hit better on the road, give me 4-5 right now and I’d take it.
Meanwhile, Wade watch continues. If this guy were in NY or Philly, his non-existent offense at first would be so gone already it’d make our heads spin. Seriously, nice dude, but come on. Two months into the season with a pitcher’s offensive output from first base. Boggles my mind.
Meanwhile, though I’m not a big WAR fan, Adames has a Negative WAR so far. It’s past the time for excuses. Tired of the “he’s also slow to warm up and hit” crap. Do his massive checks take time to hit his Fidelity account? The dude has to start producing.
Same song as for Adames but not as loud, for Chappy. Yeah, great glove (mostly), but with a .217 BA, can we get some contact instead of the Phtttt hitting with RISP? I’m starting to think Casey Schmitt would have been overall as good or better, at about 1/100 the price…
Verlander off the 26 man roster to IR but still no move by the Giants on a replacement player? What are they waiting on?They even have 2 spots on the 40 man to fill out..
No way would the Giants be interested in Bergman imo , you have a better 3B in Chapman who’s locked in for years, and his only other spot 2B is handled fine by a much younger Fitzgerald
A guy like Bregman could play anywhere on right side of IF or corner OF. Kyle Tucker is younger and already an OF but likely after $$$ long term deal
. I think OF would be easier for SF add a bat via trade or FA. AAA OF guys currently in system including Matos are disappointing. 34 year old Yaz isn’t going to last forever.
Yeah Kyle Tucker would be awesome in RF to go with CF Lee&LF Ramos but every team in the league of course the Usual suspects (Yanks,Dodgers,Padres etc) will be offering him 8-9 years at 400-500 M range. After Adames 6/182 and so far not paying dividends would the Giants FO ( Greg “ just want to break even”Johnson for sure) let Posey splurge another big contract? Then again once they lock in a long term deal with Ramos that outfield would be set for years..
farm has a couple of possible OF phenoms — or not — but not this year.

Meckler had a brief, forgettable stint with the big club in ’23. Dakota Jordan sounds like a porn star…
Disappointing the Giants have recalled retread Tristan Beck to take Verlander spot.Gawd I hope they don’t start him over Harrison on Saturday.Could be one of those 1st stupid opener by committee game..
Article in the Athletic says Tucker will get a contract that begins with a 6..
In the same article re FA’s next year…. I think Marcell Ozuna is a good pick. 34. Will be looking for less $$ for less years. He can DH and play 1st as well as occasional OF. 1st until Eldridge is ready. Alonzo and Tucker out of our league. I’d love Tucker. Alonzo if 4 years which guessing he won’t do
Yeah that was it, column by Jim Bowden with Kyle Tucker as top FA 2026, that got me wondering if Giants would be up for that type of deal. they’ve built pitching up but adding hitters from system seems to be weak spot, other than Ramos. Flores ain’t gonna last forever either.
OFs on mlb.com list xoot posted: Dakota Jordan had 4 hits for San Jose, batting .291 with .777 OPS. Tibbs having rough time in High A Eugene, batting .226. Bo Davidson much better .316.
Well, the Giants do pitch pretty well. And the team is competitive this year, so far. The hitting is not as interesting as the pitching, but has its moments.
Great comeback by the Indy Pacers, but I could really do without Haliburton’s hands-to-the-throat choking gesture. I just hate that kind of thing in sports. It serves no real purpose. And it’s only game 1. Why do something that would give the other team even more emotion to fight back?
The Indy Fever are the most interesting team in the WNBA, so the state of Indiana really is a basketball haven these days. It’s had its big basketball moments in the past, but not so much lately, until now. The Sac Kings had Haliburton, but the trade for Sabonis helped both teams. I have no problem with the trade.
Baseball has a big problem when the Dodgers have their astronomical payroll, and the Rockies look like a AA team. But sports leagues don’t tend to worry about the future all that much. Just like all big corporations, really. Concern for the future is for chicken littles, and snowflakes. Yes, the Giants ballpark will be literally underwater someday, but that’s concern for another day!
Today we’ll get the obligatory comment about high up the broadcast booth is at the Nats’ ballpark.
The Nats ballpark organ-player has been fun in the past. Let’s see if the fun continues, as we try to make the song connection to the visiting player.
Good call Zum. Just got the comment on the radio side a few minutes ago…
Yeah Flemming got one in.
Hey Zum–Valkyries game on Ion tonight. already have a W despite fact that team shooting pct. is awful. Couple friends of mine have season tickets. Comment is place is pretty loud.
Luis Robert Jr (27 years old) . . . . There, I said it. Mets, Phillies, and Bums have their eyes on him right now and I think the Giants should consider him too. Yes, he is an elite center fielder, but we have Lee there and I have zero complaints. So, that’s a no go. How about Yaz going to 1st base and Robert Jr. playing right field?
Right now, Robert makes $15 million, and has $20 million club options for the next 2 years. Although he has 17 stolen bases, second in MLB, Robert is slashing an abysmal .178/.270/.294 with only five home runs and 17 RBI in 46 games. Yes, a far cry from his 2021 and 2023 seasons, the latter of which, he was really outstanding. The White Sox are on their way to another last place finish in the American League Central, currently sitting 17.5 games back from first place with a 15-35 record.
. . . Or, maybe 1st baseman Miggy has something left in the tank??? Dollars to donuts, he could do better than Wade.

Lee with base hit 2nd time around. Rest of RH lineup: 1-10.
Minus Yaz (0-2), 1-11
Fortunately, WA doing just as bad.
Another great play by Bailey as runner wandered too far from 2nd and he gunned him down!
Roupp matching Zero’s on only 60 pitches which he always seems good at keeping his pitch count in control..
Alright, a lead!
Finally! Nice job Adames for picking up Flores.
Alright the Walk Attack along with Adames picking up Wilmet for the 1st run 2-0!!
And why is Fitz swinging at the 1st bat after 5 walks out of 2 pitchers?Geez make the 3rd pitcher work some??
Man, Rodriguez is awesome.
Oh yeah!! Look at Rodriguez 2 runners on no outs, no problem 98 cheese for a strikeout, Easy DP up the middle inning over!
Brzykcy? Wonder if they call this guy “eye chart”
👀👀👁️👁️A real eye opener letters at the DMV for sure to read…
Wilmer comes through again with RISP …
Flores comes through again…
WordPress strikes again !
And again…
Yay for the wild pitch run with Yaz caught looking.
Shaky start by Miller but got the DP.
Sigh, Matos’ baserunning.
Vamos Ramos is even worse
Lol, mixed ’em up again.
Shutout victory! Well-deserved W for Roupp.
Another Easy peasy shutout win! Great pitching, even Doval is smooth as silk now, as pitching coach are whoever has him and this staff dialed in!!
Roupp,Rodriguez,Miller,Doval just Nasty!!
Nice win. Strong hurling by Roupp and the Pen.
They expectedly struck out a ton against Gore until he left with an injury. Then they got some timely hits with some Nats help to get enough to pull out the W…
in case you need even more info about Whisenhunt:

That will show up as W for Giants vs. LHP, but that’s misleading. Gore only gave up 2 hits and 3 BBs before he left top 7 and Nats pen melted down behind him. Lee had one of those hits–Schmitt was only RH in lineup who got another. Melvin started Yaz in RF who did nothing vs. Gore. This is um, still a problem.
gotta agree but Gore really was as good as advertised.
Definitely. Schmitt impressed me and might be part of solution at 1b. got on base 3 times last night (single BB HBP) and is getting better playing 1b. Not sure how much run he gets before Giants decided Encarnacion deserves look.
Flores did come through with rbi, but before that he had GIDP in 7th with 2 on/0 outs. Had to get ball in the air there, which he did in second chance RISP. Giants went 2-6, without anyone even getting into scoring position vs. Gore at all iirc.
