A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Great Start To This Road Trip

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 24, 2025

Super impressed with that win. Easily (Whoop Whoop) Roupp’s best start. If he’s figuring this out, oh baby, we are looking good in the starting pitching department.

Huge opportunity for Dirty Harry today….

Yes great start and Roupp was impressive, as was Gore who added 9 spot to league leading K total in 6+. And Schmitt, on base 3 times and only RH to get base hit off Gore. See how much more run he gets before Giants decide what to do with Encarnacion.

At least it’s not 100 and humid in DC, yet.

Schmitt has learned to pick it at 1B. Adames seems to need that help more than do GGer or Fitz but it’s always valuable. Jerar may not cover so well. Schmitt has an opportunity if he can hit a lick.

You were high on Roupp before the season, Flavor. Looking real good…

This whole pitching staff is the best in baseball imo.

#1 BP in baseball with a 2.62 average, Shit Rodriguez is pitching lights out, Doval has also lately found his groove,Miller solid Lefty,Rodgers still gets it done, Walker, solid last year has had some hiccups but seems to be working thru them and still closes, though Melvin really has 3 closers to call on if necessary,Rodriguez definitely has closer stuff,Doval for sure&Walker, when your weakest player Hicks who still throws 101 for long relief it’s a lot to build off..

And yes I’m going ALL IN on this Starting Staff too right there with the best in the game and getting YOUNGER TOO which is real exciting!!

My 2026 Starting Pitching Staff prediction..

Webb,Ray,Birdsong,Roupp,Harrison,Whiz as the 6th guy if a pitcher needs a day are injured otherwise long relief..
Yes the Giants will need to upgrade some bats( don’t we say that every year lol)but this pitching staff will keep them in many games.

Minors stuff: Giants signed former Cards C Andrew Knizner after Rangers let him go. Hit 10 HRs for StL 2023. Giants now have 3 Cs in Sac, plus Huff. Per Around the Foghorn site, Max Stassi has an opt out June 1. So a move could be happening somewhere around C spot.

Giants LH RF in High A Eugene Scott Bandura had 4 hit game with double and 2 SBs. He’s hitting .328 with .876 OPS per MCC, and has stolen 15 bags in 16 tries. Not a power guy at all. 23 years old drafted 7th round from Princeton 2023.

The power guy they drafted high, Tibbs, is still hitting .226 there.

Memorial Day weekend…unofficial start to summer though temps in northeast today more aligned with mid-April than late May. To all veterans on this blog and among our respective families and friends, a sincere and heartfelt thank you for your service.

Yes, great start to long road trip. While starting rotation anchored by Webb and Ray, ability of Roupp, Birdsong and Harrison to deliver will likely define season. And lock down bullpen certainly helps. Little concerned by Walker’s inconsistency but still early in season.

Giants need more thrust from offense. Time for Adames and Chapman to step it up.

And we beat a lefty! Weird how our right handed lineup can hit (relatively) vs righties but has been crazy bad vs lefties!!

Giants #9 prospect Bo Davidson has been labeled the Juco Barry Bonds by a 30 year MLB scout who signed Roupp and Ray among others. Interesting.

Seems a stretch. I just looked him up. 6 hrs and 24 RBI’s in 43 games. Is hitting .315 though so that’s good:)

Only 22 years old. As xoot said, appears to be some help on way for OF in lower minors. Next level AA seems to be were line is drawn. Noticed McCray hitting better in Sac too.

whatever happened to get-‘em-on-get-‘em-over-get-‘em-in? Suppose we will need to rely on the big fly to pull this one out today .. sheesh!

Some baseball writer on KNBR this morning said he would not be at all surprised if the Giants are no-hit by somebody pretty soon. From the look of today and past weeks, I wouldn’t be surprised either. Need some rally caps here in this one, big time.

Harrison looked OK today but he gave up the dinger, which has been his MO and kryptonite since the get go when he first came up…

I just hate seeing all this good pitching go to waste in winnable games like today. Give up 3 runs like today, and you should still be in the running for a win, every game like that, if you have even decent, not great, offense. Gs are currently tied for MLB 9th in Runs scored with Mariners at 234 total, or nearly 4.6 per game. That sounds pretty good, but I think that number is deceiving from being bulked up by some big scores in a few games that shade the story of constipated run production and close games. Dodgers are #2 at a mind-blowing 5.7 Runs per game.

Gs are in the bottom third of OPS (.699 = 20th) and top third in highest/worst # of Ks made (21st at 439 or 8.6 per game, with 30th = Rockies, being highest K team at 498).

We should have made hay against Irvin in the 4th, after we had 2 baserunners . . . but Chapman hit into a double play and Adames struck out. Pfffttt.

not one ball hit over 100 mph exit velocity today. By a Giant.

Harry was ok for 4 although his four seamer was hittable when it wandered down in the zone and his first change landed in the bleachers. Good as Verlander, I guess.

Thank God for our pitching (nod of approval to AK’s outstanding 10:20am post), because we’re in most games due to our excellent staff. However, the hitting is less than mediocre, e.g., both Wade and Bailey are almost automatic outs, as they “race each other” to .100 BAs, with Wade at .169 and Bailey at .174 clip. Pathetic.

For position players, the off-season wish list for some of us included a better RFer, obviously something better at 1B, and a more than decent 2nd catcher. Didn’t get any of those, although RF has been ok because Yaz has been fine; the other 2 are still big holes. The thing about Bailey is, he just *seems* like he should hit better. Maybe it’s time they pull a JT on him and tell him to bat only lefty, but still need a better 2nd catcher (not just a backup, but someone who can contribute more starts and more power). I know, not easy to find. Put Barry on Bailey in the batting cage for a day or two next time they’re home. Unfortunately, it also seems like Adames and Chapman should hit better too. Guess they are what they are.

        1969 McCovey’s MVP year. 45/126 .320/.453/.656 for 1.108 OPS

Giants finished 2nd again. Mays hit 13 HRs. Second year OF Bobby Bonds hit 32 stole 45. Led league in Ks too with 187, and again following year with 189. fun to watch though. Loved that stance.
