Bad Start In Motor City
That was a boring, ugly game that I missed most of. I wonder if The Skipper retrieved that home run bomb he blasted on August 8th, 1970. What a game that was, scoring 5 in the 9th to beat the Astros. Certainly more exciting that what happened May 26th, 2025.
Reading through Willie Mac bio (great fun read) there’s section that lists all those who have won award named in his honor. didn’t realize Marvin Benard in 1999 scored 100 runs.
Heliot Ramos currently leads team with 34, so um on pace for same. Lee is 2nd with 32, Adames had 30.
Would be great to see anyone score these days of course.
we used to watch Sunday games on tv then go to the local HS track to run and to take soft toss BP. In 99, we watched a Marvin B bunt contribute to a late inning win. When it was his turn to bat, the two year old suddenly squared around with a fierce Bernardian look on his face. Funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Born to play.
Ha, very cool.
Paul post end of last thread mentioned ESPN story about what NL teams would survive to make playoffs, and yes those commenting mostly doubted SF. Funny enough, 2 big threats Padres and ATL come to Oracle next week after road trip ends.
June also has road trip vs. Rox and Dogs plus home series vs. Guards and Red Sox before month ends with 4 in AZ.
strange unbalanced season so far. The overall numbers may not be extraordinary but some specific outliers surprise me. I just saw a tweet claiming that the cubs are averaging over six runs per game. No telling how the disruptions will develop.
https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/runs-per-game
In the steroid era many teams topped 5.
Only took me 2 hours to figure out that Bernardian meant “like Marvin Bernard”…
Around the Foghorn story said Encarnacion could return Monday at homestand. He didn’t play at all for Sac last week but should have full 6 games worth starting tonight at home vs. El Paso.
Thanks for runs per game stats column xoot.
AZ SD Mets ATL and Brewers all scoring fewer runs than last season, surprising.
Schmitt at 1B today. Bout time.
Yep.
Yeah, Benard was one of the Fighting Hydrants. Santangelo and a couple others? Think they all ended up on the roider list.
Yeah I think it was Krukow who coined the phrase “Fighting Hydrants” since they were all so short..It was Bernard,Santangelo, and Rios as the 3 amigos..
Dang Flores just missed one. that was off fastball, which Ramos missed.
Giants a couple runners on but do not score, where have I heard that before?
WTF??????
Boom! Dude just off the IL . . . Unfreakingbelievable.
Webb no mystery to Tigers thus far.
Webb picking up where he left off vs. KC.
Yep . . . Tigers 6 for 13 against him. Ugh.
Well isn’t this fun getting HAMMERED AGAIN!
Tigers are all over Webb and his pitch count will knock him out again like last start..
3-0 with are pathetic offense it’s probably over..
Yep. Looks like we are heading for .500 for month of May.
Every freakin’ game lately, we are facing Cy freakin’ Young! Can any one swing it on this freakin ball club?
I remember last year and the feeling that came over me that some of those games were truly unwatchable. So depressing! Here we are at the end of May and it’s deja vu all over again. Inning after inning of ground out, strike out, fly out: strike out, pop out, strike out; and the more than occasional ground out; walk, double play. Fuck me! This sucks!
once again, Giants heading to late innings in this one, 2 hits, and a goose egg.
Flemming babbling about dog shit on a plane ride home — the guy is too smug and secure. He doesn’t even try to do a good job anymore.
thank God & Big Flavor for the FLAP where I can vent my stupidities! Or else, I may head out on a tri-state killing spree.
quality starts ain’t what they used to be.
Good solid showing by Webb. He pulled himself together after a rough beginning. But, this god damn offense? Sheesh!
Just for shits and giggles are boy Pitcher Ken MacKenzie had 3hits in 11AB’s his final year in 65 , the Giants 2 measely hits today lol 😂
This might be another sub-2 hour game.
I see we are firing on all 1.5 cylinders again.
Glad I ain’t watching this shit.
Can we just fire Pat Burrell? He sucks as a supposed hitting coach..
Oh a Taylor Made DP after a leadoff hit by Bailey.Fuck these guys couldn’t score at a whorehouse right now!!
yeah Kat, total shit bag of an offense .. so reminiscent of last year it is kinda crazy making.
Spot on Bassbaldy . . . call it the way you see it. June swoon came a week early it seems.
Thanks Blade, this is really making me nuts! Over and over, to witness the rank waste of good solid, and, at times, great pitching. And, at a core level, knowing that in situational hitting we cannot do shit. RISP? We will inevitably come away with nothing. So much like last year it is almost eerie.
Hoo Lee shit! What is that called again … a “run” ???
Another one wasted.
dispiriting. Mañana under light rain I guess.
And it doesn’t help to have Flemm&Pence calling games! They are atrocious! And Pence saying I see a silver lining coming on with the Bats? WTF are you talking about?Grab another gallon of coffee ☕️ amp boy..
Oh well, back to Rockford files reruns.
Just spent the last month binge watching 1883, 1923, and Yellowstone seasons. Never seen or heard anything about them (except the latter one with Costner). Westerns are the one movie and television genre they have virtually ignored the last 30 years for the most part. Liked all 3 series and got my “Western” fix sated.
I really enjoyed Deadwood, although that has to be nearly a dozen years ago now.
Agreed. Loved that. You watch Boardwalk Empire?
Thinking of watching that.
Oops, sorry Kat. that wasn’t supposed to be a reply to you, just my general thought.
Gotta say tho, I’ll take Pence over JP Santangelo any day.
We are so bad, and worse, so boring. I record the games on days I work. Would have bet a $1M Adames would get out. I knew he would k since GIDP wasn’t an option. Chapman useless too:(
For me, everyone with the exception of Flores & Lee, can take a hike.
it’s the ‘boring’ that is getting to me. The predictability of the offense in situations amplifies the ‘boring’. As I’ve already stated, it is so much like last year it’s downright weird.
Good news is that if we beat Detroit tomorrow, we’re 3-3 (.500) on this road trip; and, we still get 3 games with the hapless Marlins, where I smell a “sweep” coming on.
Big “if,” but we can still come home smelling like ROSES on this road trip.
Blade,If you haven’t seen Landman( Billy Bob Thornton,Jon Hamm,Ali Lauter etc) it’s really good ! Along with Tulsa King that director Taylor Sheridan( actor) just continues to make hit series’s.. He produces more hits then the Giants..
Great post AK . . . That Taylor Sheridan is talented (and a real cowboy). I didn’t know this until I got immersed into 1883, 1923, and Yellowstone, but he also was responsible or played a major part in making Wind River, Sicario, and Hell or High Water. Love all those movies.
Yeah, Landman and Tulsa King are on my list of TV shows to watch.
I will second that with Landman. Good Texas oil story.
Check out “Dark Winds” on Netflix. A short, 2 season series about life and times and crimes on Navajo lands in Northern AZ and New Mexico. Great acting and scenery is stunning. On DWs, the starring role of a Navajo sheriff is played by the same guy who played the Native American sheriff in the longer Longmire series set supposedly in Wyoming, also on Netflix.

Vid of Jerar going deep this evening.
400 feet + easily.
Well, if this *offense* looks like last year, it should, because it is last year’s O with only Adames added (he of the forever .200 avg). They seemed to gel earlier in the season and get things done, but lack of talent will eventually take its toll. Last year, I would watch game recaps only when the Giants won; watching their losses was pointless. This year, I’d been watching even the losses, the team was interesting, at least. Uh… yeah, not watching the losses anymore.
You guys see the games, I usually can’t. What are your thoughts on Melvin at this point? Do you notice him a) making good in-game decisions, b) making bad or puzzling in-game decisions, or c) you don’t really even notice what he does, which would be better than b). His line-ups puzzle me a bit. Lee is IMO prototypical lead off hitter. Hitting cleanup today? Fitz hitting last? Just trying anything to get something going? ……
I hope Encarnacion pans out.
But, if we put a ton of eggs in that hope basket, we may end up a tad bit frustrated. The guy was in the Mexican league a year ago, and prior to that his entire MLB experience was a short taza of Cafe Cubano with Miami. That’s it…
the Oaxaca Wonder should get a shot while they figure out a better second half plan. No mas LaMonte.
Worth a shot, yes.
BTW, WordPress has apparently decided one day of “edit” mode on my account was enough. Today, that’s gone…
Well, the good news is I can post vids again.
