Can’t Hit Can’t Win
Truthfully though, the offense wasn’t the problem yesterday. Maybe I’m just tricked into believing that these days 3 runs in a game is an offensive explosion. Gotta give the Tigers credit, they didn’t do anything fancy they just keep grinding and holding you down till the W is secure.
This roadie is still fixable but we’ve got 3 guys in the starting line up everyday who are hitting under .200 and I doubt that’s ever happened in Giants history on this regular of a basis. You don’t like that stat? How bout six hitters with a minus WAR right now. SIX. LOL, what are we even doing here?
Not enough.
mm didn’t take long for fanbase other than FB housewives to turn on Posey. He’s basically Jimmy Cliff from “The Harder They come” in scene where he’s sitting around table with chalice on it, takes a small puff and coughs, only for one of the other guys to ask him, “new at dis, mon?” Followed by another guy taking massive hit off it that fills up movie screen with smoke while audience in attendance (Varsity theater in downtown Palo Alto for me) laughs like hell.
He ran presser with Melvin, hired new GM from within, promoted pitching coach to replace retired Price, kept scouting and farm directors intact, much to consternation of some here. These were his moves, along with extending Chapman/ adding Adames to cover SS and add power plus Verlander to bring more vet presence to rotation. No idea what else might have been looked into and ultimately rejected which we can only speculate on from couch.
Melvin isn’t saying much for publication as per normal so we’re left to wonder about his convos with those above him and what they can do to fix what hasn’t worked out as planned. giants are still in thick of things in tough Division with obvious shortcomings, like rest of contenders.
Basketball mentor told me you always learn more about team when you lose than when you win.
Life mentor told me things are never as good or as bad as they seem.
Mine told me to never bet a horse as a favorite to do something he’s never done before…
I think I would bring up a few kids if for nothing else to give a few players a chance to clear their heads and a little break.
Giants should not wait to the deadline to make a trade they have to deal right now!
Rhys Hoskins is the dude I want even if he’s a rental , cause the Giants have plenty of rentals throughout their systems..Start the bait hook with Matos,Black,Beck&Catcher/Reliever Luciano who the Giants screwed the pooch on along with Bart..
Go ahead and just DFA No Night is Alright LaMonte Wade he can’t be optioned to Sac(5 plus years of big league time)
that’s who I wanted 2 winters ago but they passed and let MIlw sign him so I doubt they’d trade anything for him after they failed to get him as a FA
Yeah probably right BF, I remember the Giants as usual try to low ball Hoskins and Brewers offered 2/34M so as Steve Miller would say “Take the Money and Run”
Hoskins is crushing the ball 8 bombs 30 RBI’s with OPS something like .840 no Giant rips like that except Ramos..Ohearn being Lefty putting up his career best numbers would be ok as well but Hoskins hits for better power which the Giants clearly lack.
They could try and add Pitcher Sugano from Orioles imo never enough pitching depth and he’s an experienced Starter pitching with a 3.07 era and might be even better pitching at Oracle the Tombstone of Boot Hill for fly balls to die..
Come on, Willie. Most of what you said is simply rearranging the deck chairs. Adames was a great start, and I thought Verlander was the one time I’d take a one-year flyer on someone.
But that was it. They needed to do more and they chose not to. The feel-good April is a distant memory. Lost like tears in the rain.
The Dogs spent wildly. Sure we are close to them now, but they will pull away to the far reaches of the galaxy by the time September rolls around.
And they’ve learned all about losing these past 3 seasons. And they still choose to let quality players sign elsewhere. Like signing Alonso would block Eldridge. Who is in AA. He may not even get called up in September.
O’Hearn is on a one-year deal. Trade for his ass. Anything not named Luciano is better than Wade.
Melvin’s LU is baffling to me having Fitzgerald batting 9th and losing up to 60AB’s in a season batting 9th and being their fastest runner with some power needs to be utilized better!
Here’s my LU for now praying they can start clicking better:
Lee
Fitzgerald
Ramos
Chapman
Adames
Flores
Yaz
Wade/Encarncion/Schmitt rotation and DH scenarios
Bailey
Excellent Kat! Damn, it seems so obvious!

It turned out to be a bleak sports week for me. The Giants got swept, the Fever’s Clark is out injured, and I don’t care about any of the four teams in the NBA Conference Finals. Bleak, I tell ya!
zumiee what’s your take on that chick who hates Clark who manhandles her whenever she gets the chance? Angel something?
Oh, I just posted something about her!
WNBA fans are realizing that Angel Reese is a limited basketball player. Her shooting motion is terrible, and should have been fixed when she was in high school or earlier. She seems more concerned about her fashion statement as she does the “tunnel walk” before the game.
Oh, the pregame fashion walk in sports. It’s turned into a thing. Lincecum was amusing with his bowtie before that playoff game, but it’s been downhill for sports tunnel walks since then.
game five in texas
WNBA teams’ strategy towards Clark is the same the NBA teams have had for Curry: beat them up during the game, and the refs will ignore it for some reason. I don’t really know why the refs ignore it, but I have a theory. Clark and Curry aren’t floppers. They respect the game too much to do it. And, unfortunately, in spite of rule changes, players still flop, and flopping still gets foul calls.
Two of the biggest floppers are LeBron and Harden. I can’t stand to watch them play.
I do not understand how/why the NBA has allowed, for years, the oppo teams to manhandle Steph — tackle, grab, hold, punch, pull on his bad thumb, etc. He gets virtually no foul calls unless he is nearly decapitated or concussed. Some say its because he’s not with Nike, but with Under Armour. Whatever. It makes no sense. He’s one of the most recognized athletes on the planet, arguably the best global ambassador the NBA has, a stellar citizen in all respects, and accordingly helps the NBA as an entity make a shitton of money. The league has to know, so obviously condones the abuse. There are pics of his arms after games, it looks like he’s been in a fight with a mountain lion. The amount of physical pounding he took in the recent Houston series was sickening. No doubt the toll it took contributed to his hammy pull in game 1 of the next series. I read something a while back that estimated if he got foul calls at the rates of Harden and others, he’d average nearly 40 ppg, since he makes foul shots at or above a 90% rate. I just don’t get it…
It’s all AI’s fault. He got the same treatment. Mainly for being a small guy. I love the morons who spout that Curry couldn’t have averaged more than 16 points in the 80s-90s with its ‘physical’ play because he’d be pressed and hend-checked to death and wouldn’t be able to get a shot off.
AI was 6′ nothing and 160 lb soaking wet and still got his shot and killed it out there. It is just stupid they let defenses simply throw Curry around like a ragdoll while Bron Bron gets touch fouls from 8′ away.
I will say it’s pretty cool that Mr. Overrated (Haliburton) is silencing the doubters out there. Always liked his game. Indy in 6! Those old Pacers teams in the ABA were a gas.
I guess I’m rooting for the Knicks to keep their series going, just for the heck of it. I’m a Spike Lee fan. I’m rooting for them, for Spike!
Come on the Knicks are toast and no chance of beating the Pacers Zumie..
Besides it doesn’t matter hand the Title to OKC Thunders against Pacers, they are well coached, good solid team that run the floor to perfection they made the T-Wolves look like a D League team how they annihilated them..
I’ll be frank, first and foremost, no one is pointing fingers at Buster Posey. He doesn’t control the purse strings – ownership does. Here is an example . . .
I never caught this scathing column (see link below) directed toward ownership by SF Gate columnist, Dave Tobener, when it came out in late March. He is so damn right about how the Giants insulted fans, after they sold 10% of the club to a private equity firm. Specifically, Baer said, “This is not about a stockpile for the next Aaron Judge,” Baer told the NY Times. “This is about improvements to the ballpark, making big bets on San Francisco and the community around us, and having the firepower to take us into the next generation.” Read the column and decide for yourself. I have the original link and the “remove paywall link” if you are unable to read the column below.

Yeah, we’ve been saying this ever since Greggie spouted his ‘break even’ deal. Well, I gave him half a season before seeing the light.
That was a huge red flag. And so is this season. After sitting on their thumbs after Verlander, it was ‘here we go again’.
And a lot of us said buster is simply a placation hire. It sounds great and it started great, but here we are treading water with a team that simply will not win consistently down the stretch.
Baer, and the rest of ownership, thinks the fans are all saps. Here are a few more critical columns about Baer, Greg, et. al., in the ownership suite where their low opinion of fans comes out (including the one you pointed out unca):

Man, fell down the rabbit hole of looking at the old posts that pop up at the bottom of the thread du jour. They were from Sept 28th 2010.
Walker out as closer
Yeah, I don’t think anyone is throwing Buster under the bus; it’s just that *most* of us thought they needed to do more in the offseason, and after a somewhat surprising good start, reality appears to be confirming that. As much as I wanted new and better players in RF, 1B, and catcher, I also figured give Buster this year to figure out what they really have, as he wasn’t going to turn it around in just his first season. Let’s see what the FO does (or doesn’t do) now that the rubber has met the road. But of course you all are also right that it’s up to ownership. If Greggie is indeed content with 4th place finishes right around .500, then nothing will be done.
I’ve also moved from slightly puzzled about BoMel’s lineups to full on annoyed. Lee should bat nowhere other than leadoff. Cleanup? Just stoopid. Maybe once some of the sub-.200 hitters are gone (haha), the lineups will be more fun for BoMel to construct………….
Same deal with stolen bases. The shock and awe of the first 10 games is gone; and, so are the stolen bases. NBC Sports said this today . . .
“Where did it go?
The Giants stole six bases on their successful season-opening road trip and then ran wild in their home opener. Adames, Jung Hoo Lee, Heliot Ramos and Tyler Fitzgerald all took off that afternoon, making the team 10-for-10 on the bases through seven games. They had at least one steal in each of the next three games, and it looked like — after years of talking about being more athletic — the Giants would finally be making an adjustment.
Currently, they rank 28th in the majors.
The running game has been shut down, with just five stolen bases in 10 attempts in May. After stealing 13 bags in their first 10 games, the Giants have taken 13 over their last 46. They have been caught 11 times during that stretch, too.
That percentage bothers manager Bob Melvin and has led to a change in strategy in the dugout, although when he was asked over the weekend about the lack of running, he first pointed to another area.
“We haven’t had any baserunners and we go when we feel like there are opportunities to steal,” he told reporters in Washington D.C. “There was a period where we were too aggressive and got some guys thrown out, so we have to pick the right times.”
Given how slow it’s been offensively in general, the Giants need to be more aggressive the rest of the way. Fitzgerald, one of the fastest players in the big leagues, is six-for-eight. Lee has just one attempt since April 5.”
Fitz batting 9th in ludicrous. As is the fact we stopped running. Lee has 4 steal attempts. None in May.
course I si g Halliburton’s praises and he scores 8 points.
Jesus. Same old same old boring ass shit.
It’s worse than that Unca . . . See my post above – Lee has one attempt since April 5th.
wow that went in the wrong place
“We haven’t had any baserunners and we go when we feel like there are opportunities to steal.” That’s a bit of a strange quote from BoMel, especially the first part….. uh, yeah, that would be key, having baserunners. There are likely multiple reasons why the team was way over .500 for April but not May, but the “not having any baserunners” bit might be the most important.
I tend to gauge the team’s status by thinking that over a 6-month season, finishing each month 4 games over .500 results in a 93-69 record, probably good enough for the post-season. They could still close out May with 2 wins and be 8 over .500 for the first 2 months, which would be fine. It’s what they do in June/July that will determine their lot.
We are getting guys on base. MoTel is talking out his ass.
