A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Our Pitching Is Awesome

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 4, 2025

It would be easy to continue to be negative about this team but we really should stop to appreciate how awesome this pitching has been.

Doval is a little like our fucking kicker, Jake Moody. Like, even if he gets it going again, as soon as he begins one of his predictable meltdowns it’s very easy to want him out of his role. There’s just no margin for error for either of those dudes.

And that’s why neither of them should have the jobs they have. Cut Moody and put Doval back in his set up role. He seems to be ok at that.

So Rodriguez is next man up?

Walker isn’t really doing well either.

Moody still has some rope left. After they ‘rushed him back too early.’

They did get another kicker for competition.

    • Flavor's avatar Flavor said, on June 4, 2025 at 7:54 am

Sure. But my point is that even if Moody starts off hot as soon as he falls into one of his miss-streaks everyone will freak out. It will get in his head. Both he and Doval have set this up so they have to be perfect or it’s like “Fuck this guy, here we go again!”

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 4, 2025 at 10:26 am

Well, they all get paid a king’s ransom to do their jobs. If he can’t cut it then he gets cut. True for all of them. They either play through their issues or they fall off their teams.

And yeah, it’s great to celebrate the pitching, but there is no margin of error for ANYONE on this pitching staff. Our last 2 games saw the starters give up 0 runs in 15 innings and they lost both games. Our last 12 games, the team era is like 1.60 or something. And we aren’t winning.

Didn’t like this guy on warriors pregame/halftime et al…why would Giants hire him? btw, last weekend iirc Laura Britt did a show with her hair straight and looked fabulous.

  2. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 4, 2025 at 8:31 am

If the hitting was just a little bit better, the pitching staff, maybe even Doval, would be able to “exhale” – where they don’t have to be freakin’ near perfect.

    Amazing how quickly things change…
40 yard FGS are chip shots
Probably half of ML pitchers routinely throw upper 90s
Almost every one shoots 3s and from way beyond the line
    Hockey hasn’t changed a whole lot lately…

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 4, 2025 at 8:55 am

Rules too have changed significantly. All sports emphasize offense. Don’t follow hockey, so I suspect they are the “lone ranger” not following the crowd.

Impressed by Roupp last night who mixed up stuff using more and different off speed.

Like the guy or not, Machado can still play. Hurt SF last night at plate and in field.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 4, 2025 at 8:52 am

Agree. I was surprised the night before that they had him at DH, so didn’t know whether this was a regular thing due to diminished fielding skills or what. Machado may not be liked by a lot of people (including me), but he is still good in the field and moreover, works his ass off trying to prove he is the best in the game, e.g., I think that goes way back to when his brother and him use to hit grounders to each other all day, every day, along with practicing other baseball type skills. Reminds me of the kids I grew up with in the ’60s (we played sports from dusk to dawn).

That being said, he sure has gained a lot of weight.

Missed 9th and 10th so wondering what type of pitches Doval couldn’t command. Like to follow along cbs site which gives pitch and velo in each AB–postgame does not. Last night looks like he couldn’t find zone at all with anything–was this both hard stuff and slider? What pitch did he get beat with on base hits?

    • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 4, 2025 at 9:19 am

machado’s hit wouldn’t’ve scored two without the walk and wild (very wild) FB that followed the IF single. Tatis also stole second easily after not advancing on the wild one. Even Doval’s lob to 1B on the early comebacker was wild.

  13. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 4, 2025 at 10:27 am

Hey I called for Catcher Kinzer callup the last thread for Koss.So now Kinzer can be Ray’s personal catcher now Xoot. He’s much more experienced with a batter bat ( close to 900AB’s) I like this move.

Wade had to go unfortunately his bat speed caught up with him and you can’t have a non productive 1B , which actually they have plenty of but it was time for Wade and I wish him well .Lots of Late Night Wade in the past was fun to watch.

So I see it’s now Mets ex #1 pick Dominic

Hopefully Smith can hit some they need a Lefty over there as a stopgap before Eldridge anyway, RH bats at 1st are covered with,Schmitt,Flores some better at DH,and OF/1B Encarncaion..

Not saying this is the case, but here’s an example of what type of hard luck, Johnson has had (see link below). I would imagine there are hundreds of players that “fall through the cracks” because a manager didn’t promote/advance him to the “show.” Johnson, may have been one of those players. Didn’t that happen to Yaz before he came here? Regardless, Johnson is getting a chance now.
