A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Moving On….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 13, 2025

Just a god-awful, horrific loss that we have had many of in Colorado over the years. I hate that place. But now we are on to some actual real baseball in LA tonight. Very interested to see how we do against these guys. They have a lot of injuries, they aren’t the juggernaut they claim to be right now.

Last night was horrible but you could just see it coming.

starting pitching needs to step up. I suspect Melvin either tried to stretch a few pen guys to save others for LA or he tried to play around pen problems we haven’t heard about. Either way, the Denver park and altitude won. But the bums definitely are beatable.

That game yesterday was not one of the 60 losses u lose.Hoping it doesn’t have a carry over affect .Your rolling with 7 straight wins and this was gut wrenching.Baseball day to day is so unpredictable, one day Schmitt getting high praise with that terrific play at 3rd to save game 2, the next day one of the goats along with Randy not getting the job done..

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 8:41 am

At some point I think Melvin has to consider late game D replacement for Ramos.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2025 at 9:28 am

Johnson yes. Gawd save us from meckler or wisely.

How long will it take to get meaningful reinforcements?

Our Brebbia aisle is fully stocked with Villars, Mecklers, and Wiselys.

  4. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 13, 2025 at 9:22 am

Ramos sure can be a head scratcher in LF think he’s better coming in on a ball then going back imo.For all his weird play he’s only been credited with 1 error.992 fielding pct ( which seems generous some how in scoring)and you can’t take his bat ever out of the LU, to much pop and OPS for a team desperate for offense..

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 13, 2025 at 9:45 am

Agree AK . . . Surprised too about what you said regarding errors. Didn’t see game last night, but saw highlights this morning. No bueno.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 13, 2025 at 9:46 am

Well, when you misplay shit so badly that you can’t even get close enough to commit the error, that’s just not called one. I’d have a perfect fielding percentage by just letting everything fall around me.

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 10:14 am

Good point Unc. Errors and fielding pct only tell part of D story, very subjective too.

Kinda funny but Dogs fans done with Conforto as well and LA has defensive issues as to who plays RF (generally more demanding spot) as T Hernandez who is bad anywhere hates LF and prefers RF. As Baggs said, maybe Posey grabs OF for Gs. In short term as xoot said Johnson could cover for Ramos. He’s made plays everywhere else.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 13, 2025 at 1:35 pm

Contorto sure was the dud that kept on dudding.

  5. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 13, 2025 at 10:56 am

Well I’m not seeing Johnson’s bat producing much 3-16 .188 avg yeah maybe he can play all outfield positions but so could and I know this guy isn’t are favorite player but Wade Meckler is hitting good at Sac .307 avg good OPS just thinking better bat and actually faster then McCray&Fitz just a thought if Johnson continues to struggle..

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 1:17 pm

Johnson as 9th inning D replacement for Ramos, til Posey gets better hitting OF than Yaz.

  6. xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2025 at 11:52 am

More drag on the ball this season (although many other batting stats remain pretty flat).

“Across 28 of 30 MLB stadiums this year — removing the two minor-league parks that are being temporarily used in Sacramento, Calif., and Tampa, Fla. — home runs as a percentage of fly balls hit in March, April and May are at an eight-year low.”

MLB’s baseball is behaving differently again, but no one seems to know why

  9. willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 2:05 pm

File under “what is everybody mad about Melvin today”: Buddy of mine who had 2 boys that pitched wondered why Melvin takes his set up relievers out after 1 inning all the time. If they are going well, why not leave them in was what he asked over lunch. If they struggle, then get someone else up.

    • James's avatar James said, on June 13, 2025 at 3:36 pm

I can’t imagine how well the bullpen would be doing if Melvin wasn’t incompetent!

      • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 4:04 pm

Can you imagine reaction here if tyler rogers was asked to pitch 2 innings?

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2025 at 4:39 pm

At the mile high hell hole, stretching Bivens and using Doval in the (initially) nonsave ninth were strategic decisions I didn’t understand. Still don’t. But Melvin knew what he was doing. Or trying to do.

      • James's avatar James said, on June 13, 2025 at 6:28 pm

I think Dovall was up throwing while it was still a save situation, unless I’m misremembering. As WillieD pointed out, the warm up tosses are treated as live pitches now in assessing how much work a reliever has put in. Once he’d thrown a number of those, he might have been a less happy option for Melvin on Thursday. So Melvin used him. The alternative at the time was Hjelle . . . . That’s how I read it, anyway. As for Rodriguez’s layoff (which I know Chuck brought up), he’s had several stretches with 3-4 days off. If you want to limit him to a reasonable number of total appearances for the year, some longer stretches off are inevitable.

      • xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 13, 2025 at 7:16 pm

the Giants scored three in the top of the ninth while Doval was warming up. But he’d closed the night before. He could’ve used some nonsave rest. Maybe Melvin saw a four run lead as a coors field save situation. Maybe something else factored in.

  10. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 13, 2025 at 7:04 pm

James, he was up when it was 7-6 Giants and of course I have no problem with that he’s the closer but once they stretched the lead to 10-6 it should of been shutdown time for him and let Hjelle who was warmed up go and use him if he starts to get lit up Doval is still warmed up to use.Just think Melvin screwed the pooch in that situation..

Muncy is the definition of a guy you just want to punch in the face, every pitch he whines about yes easily the most hated Dogshit Dodger right now..

We are going to struggle with both the catchers we have right now, neither can hit( well Bailey makes 3) but Bailey easily holds on to that ball thrown for Yaz..

  27. Dean's avatar Dean said, on June 13, 2025 at 8:18 pm

Each equation has 3 stages. Always wait for Stage 3. On Freeman at bat: Stage 1 – I thought of the bat home run to right and lead cut to 5-3. Stage 2 – I thought Yaz had lost ball which would drop in right-center and lead cut to 5-2. Stage 3 – Yaz pockets ball in glove and 5-1 lead preserved.

After horrific loss in Sherpa land yesterday, important for Giants to win first game of series vs Dodgers to erase yesterday’s collapse but also to show Dodgers Giants are for real.

Again, no scoring without an HR, but hey, 3 HRs at the Latrine — I’ll take it.

BTW, Melvin needs a kick ass session with the team and coaches about baserunning. WTF was that Ramos debacle around third? Are the coaches not yelling AND signalling to stop? Horrible run of baserunning the last week or three, yet it hasn’t hurt much, uh, except caused Chapman to go onto the IL…

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 13, 2025 at 10:05 pm

Williams did everything but tackle Ramos. It’s 100 percent his fault end of story. Same with Chapman, a 9 year veteran who knows better than to stay too far off 1b. He only has himself in blame for that and for getting hurt.
