A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Ugly

There was some rando soft tossing lefty we had 5 or 6 years ago who would shut the Dodgers down. I forget his name. Nothing special about him at all. I think he pitched later for the Rockies, too. No rhyme or reason to it, but he was just a straight up LA assassin.

Anyway, whatever that guy’s name was I am positive it wasn’t “Landon Roupp.”

I thought the comparison was going to go from the Giants’ soft tossing lefty to the current version of Kershaw. Allowing that feeble grandpa to go 7 innings is unforgivable.

History on line tonight. No MLB player has ever hit grand slams in three consecutive games. Teams have accomplished the feat but no individual player. Let’s leave LaLa land with series win.

According to FanGraphs, as of this morning Giants have 59.3% chance to make playoffs. D’backs at 41.5% chance and Padres at 39.3% chance.

Really? Wish I had as much confidence in Giants as FanGraphs. And D-backs (without Corbin Burnes) with better odds than Padres?

  19. Dean's avatar Dean said, on June 15, 2025 at 4:22 pm

Or just DH? Obviously Devers becomes starting 3B until Chappy healthy but once Chappy back does Melvin try Devers at 1B.?

    • willedav's avatar willedav said, on June 15, 2025 at 4:26 pm

Will be interesting to see how they get his bat in lineup. Has he even played 3b this year–that was his whole beef right, that Sox told him he didn’t need his 3b glove. Schmitt can handle it and then take over 2b.

      • Dean's avatar Dean said, on June 15, 2025 at 4:33 pm

True which means that Flores & Smith would platoon at 1B if Devers strictly DH. Certainly gives Giants more options off bench.

With trade of Harrison & Hicks, other intriguing question is whether Posey calls up one or two pitchers from minors to replace them. If two pitchers, with addition of Devers, Posey would need to send position player to Sacramento or DFA them. Encarnacion? Matos? Fitz?

  20. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 15, 2025 at 4:22 pm

Meanwhile, Hjelle is throwing fat “hit me” throws down the middle. He might be in shock being called to start at the last minute, apparently, due to the pre-game trade of Harrison. Hope he settles down…

  24. snarkk's avatar snarkk said, on June 15, 2025 at 4:48 pm

MLB types are characterizing this as some kind of steal by Posey. We’ll see, down the road, depending on how Harrison and Tibbs turn out. They can have Hicks. If BoSox are eating all his salary, that’s a good outcome…

Devers will get sometime at 3rd till Chappy gets back along with Mr.Slam but he will be the DH

I amazed they got this deal done, Dirty Harry not that big a deal for me they have Whisenhut ready to roll, The Call me Mr.Tibbs, high draft pick but will be pan out are flame out? Hicks no loss needed a change after demoted to pen..

Giants have plenty of good pitching arms in Minors and Majors u could still work trades with, but Christmas came earlier than the trade deadline today! In Posey we trust! And now wait next year with Devers,Eldridge,Adames,Chapman,Ramos, Lee for openers..

Yeah Loo, Kershaw a very humble guy he even wanted a Giants number that would be Clark’s 22 his favorite player growing up which he switched to after 1st year?

And you know he was right in his interview about Devers, thinking Giants didn’t give up to much to get this guys bat, along with being honest how the Giants would of scored a run if Williams let Dom continue to score easily after his team threw it around the infield after Hernandez even bobbled it in LF..2 outs send him! And of course they didn’t score on cue..

Freaking Pages is my new Dodger hater he’s real good.
And as John Lithgow would say in Cliffhanger “Damm you Walker!”

Just don’t get Walker,Pages just missed a homer on the previous AB then gives him the same Damm slider again which he torched..

Luchessi as Loo mentioned a former Mets but plenty of experience and being a lefty I like it for now they needed another Lefty in the pen besides Miller..

Boy when the Giants make moves they do it in bunches and so far paying off..

Been waiting for Buster’s first big trade, and here it is and looks pretty good. Keep reading how he “fleeced” the Sawx, but anytime you give up a promising young lefty starter, you’ve given up a lot. I liked Harrison but he’s a major shoulder injury just waiting to happen with that snap-back follow through motion. Sox have done this kind of trade before; if Devers can do anything near what Betts has done for LA, we’ll be happy. Just hope he fits in and doesn’t have a Beltran-like sourpuss attitude.

  41. xoot's avatar xoot said, on June 15, 2025 at 6:42 pm

about a week ago during an interview with a writer from the merc I think Buster talked about the Beltran trade in 2011. He said he liked the big ambitious move and still thinks it was good, Wheeler’s subsequent success notwithstanding. I thought that was a good omen.

  42. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 15, 2025 at 6:53 pm

Yeah, on paper, at the time, that trade looked like a smart move. Too bad Beltran turned out to be a bit of a jerk who never fit in. We have to hope Devers fits in. Was just talking to a friend in Boston who thinks Sox were probably smart to get rid of him at this time but doesn’t think they received enough value considering Devers’ good bat…

And yes, Bozo/Loco, Jerar (Jerror? that was a good one by Xoot!) should be gone…

  43. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 15, 2025 at 6:57 pm

This from my Boston friend: “Devers is a little like Manny, kind of in his own world. He’s very much like a child and never means any harm to anyone. But he just wasn’t the leader that the Red Sox wanted. He wasn’t willing to step up and return to playing the field after Bregman got hurt. I think the Red Sox just looked at how many years were left on the contract and how many hitters they were bringing into the major league team and just decided to cut bait. I really wish they had gotten a little bit more of a return, but it’s nice to hear you have some optimism on Harrison and Tibbs.”

Something had to be done to pump some life into the offense, and something they did. Wow, what a stunner. Finally a legit threat in the lineup, maybe a player opponents will have to account for when his turn comes up. Too bad they gave up Harrison, who seemed to be turning it around, but who knows if he’ll keep it up. Same for trading Mr. Tibbs, who knows if he’ll pan out. Hicks? See ya. The only ones happier than us are Yanks fans, since Devers destroys the Bombers.

  46. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 15, 2025 at 7:28 pm

Man wheeling and dealin Buster&Zack are not sitting on their asses like Farhan constant dump diver players, he’s aggressive and pounced on an opportunity to get Devers a LH power bat with outstanding numbers, shit his last AB today he hit one out, now gets to take it to his former team at Oracle next week , how cool will that be?

Amazing in a span of 6 days the Giants go from Lamont Wade to Rafael Devers with alittle Dom on the side.

  47. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 15, 2025 at 8:09 pm

Giants FO obviously knows about Devers balking at changing positions in Boston. 3B is Chapman’s for the long term, but maybe he’ll be out longer than they thought, and I’m guessing they have a plan for Devers once Chappie returns. Maybe something else will be in the works about Schmitt and Fitz.

  48. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 15, 2025 at 8:33 pm

One peripheral thing I’m happy about: the trade put the Giants in the top stories of the day. For some reason, MLB site has become unavailable to me over here, so I must rely on ESPN. I love this trade! if Harrison works out good on him. I like him, and was excited to see what he could do, but you have to give up talent to get talent. Another major plus is we always “just missed” on the big hitters. Now we finally have one. Vlady got 400+ million so Devers at $30 is reasonable. AND it will take some pressure off Adames!
