A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Still No V W’s

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 25, 2025

I’m still not throwing Justin into the Big Titty Volcano just yet. He wasn’t good but a lot of starting pitchers aren’t good. And it was another winnable game for the team that he pitched in. Matt Williams is there for his gritty manly old school look. I think there’s a decent chance Kate Upton could coach 3rd base better…..

I know you guys follow Jomboy, his breakdowns are just fantastic. This one on the Caitlin Clark fight thing is one of his top 10 in my opinion. Zumiee– what up with your girls, this shit is starting to get out of hand.

that’s wild. I may stop by the occasional wnba game now for the chance to see brawls. I think they could improve the sport if they put roller skates on the players and banked the sides of the court for speed.

I could give a rats ass about Catlin Clark but her teammate the Enforcer Sophie Cunningham gets my respect in this bush league. She is Hot as Hell and now has over 1M followers on Tic Tok.She’s got Clark’s back as the Marty McSorley to Catlin’s Wayne Gretzky…

Williams sending Devers and not sending Lee a few games earlier is just stupid beyond belief. For obvious reasons. Lee’s run would have won the game, he’s fast.

Devers send took the bat out of Wilbur’s hands and was a rally-killer. Devers is nursing a groin strain and just ran all-out to prevent a double play.

Loved Williams as a player but get him the fuck out. He’s costing us games.

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 said, on June 25, 2025 at 9:41 am

Lee’s Run would of only tied it up Unca, yeah he would of scored for sure if not the incompetence of Williams. That game was heading into Ghost game at best.Think you were expecting a hobbled Schmitt at the time to hit a walkoff bomb but struck out instead to end the game..

“Many who responded to The Athletic’s player poll this spring said most of their direct messages on social media feature fans asking for reimbursements for lost bets. Some manage to be funny. But with the more serious threats, which can include specific information or a harsher tone, players have noted a difference since sports betting operations were legalized on a larger scale and formed partnerships with MLB.”

from a piece in the Athletic today. Kennesaw Mountain Landis and Bart Giamatti would be pissed. Manfred couldn’t care less.

It’s a terrible call, he’s right about that; but he’s wrong that “nobody watches the WNBA.” The viewership and TV ratings have grown a lot in the last couple of years. The league has its own identity now. And guys are drooling over photos of Sophie Cunningham.

  13. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 25, 2025 at 12:35 pm

There’s concern that the WNBA refs aren’t up to the task, or the rules aren’t up to the task. But that concern is also in the NBA. Players are grabbing and shoving on defense in both leagues. Players are stiff-arming opponents and shoving on offense in both leagues. The sport needs to get cleaned up. It leads to players getting into fights.

    • blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 25, 2025 at 12:59 pm

Bottom line? Majority of the league players don’t have a clue that Clark is their “meal ticket” out of obscurity and more important to them, MO’ MONEY.

Yeah, I saw this almost 2 weeks ago and Clark is an “assassin” on the court. Great floor leader, deadly 3 point shot, passer, defender, etc. Other players better end their jealousy or like I said, they’re shitting on their meal ticket.

Somebody made the point that she could leave the WNBA and start her own league with currently unsigned players, and her league would have more viewership than the WNBA. I think that actually might be true.

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck said, on June 25, 2025 at 4:01 pm

Well, fucking with CC gets you guaranteed coverage from the likes of ESPN. Will that lead to anything? Maybe, maybe not, but it is their 15 minutes.

How about those Valkyries! If the playoffs started today, they’d be in! In fact, they’re the 6th seed at the moment. They’re hungry and scrappy, and any team that takes them a little lightly is going to get a surprise.

And, to no one’s surprise, the attendance at the Chase Arena has been awesome and awesomely loud.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 said, on June 25, 2025 at 12:50 pm

Not picking on you Zum, but the playoffs don’t start today and it’s one my 30 trillion pet peeves when people use that line. In fact knowing you from here only, I would think this is the kind of thing that would irk you as well…

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 25, 2025 at 1:03 pm

Yeah, normally yes; but the Vals are an expansion team, so it’s just a fun thing to say about them. They are surprising!

Also, it’s important to note that the WNBA regular season is only about half the games of the NBA, so the Valkyries are a legitimate playoff contender, which would be huge for the team and the fans.

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 25, 2025 at 1:27 pm

Yeah, I have many pet peeves too in sports. An outfielder with a great arm always has a cannon. A well-pitched game is always a gem. I don’t like when basketball broadcasters refer to the basket as “the cup.”

And I absolutely hate the phrase: “Giving the player their flowers,” meaning complementing them. I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It rankles, and I don’t even really know why, but it really rankles.

Oh, and calling an easy basketball shot a “bunny.” Hate it!! What happened to the broadcasting in the sport!! We miss you, Bill King!!

      • zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 25, 2025 at 1:31 pm

“Scoring the basketball,” “Rebounding the basketball,” arghh, just awful.

Reggie Miller dressing in Indiana gear and openly rooting for Indiana during the finals. What the heck is that? It’s lame for a broadcaster to do that, IMO.

Well, when you have James Harden and LeBron getting brush fouls continuously while Steph (and others) gets tossed around like a ragdoll off the ball, or even during shots, then you have shit like this that smacks of fixing. Given the gambling money floating around every sport now, you have to wonder.

The playoffs were especially obvious regarding Steph. One call on an obvious foul on Steph was reversed to an offensive foul, and Steph was t-ed up after the foul.

The NBA became hard for me to watch this season. I just couldn’t get into it. I miss when teams used to run plays. A point-guard would hold up a hand-signal, and a bunch of guys would run around and set screens and make cuts. Now it’s a guy in each corner, and a screen and roll up top, and lots of boredom

Great passes are as satisfying as anything in the sport. It’s a beautiful unselfish thing. Clark is a great passer. It contributes greatly to her popularity.

The three-point shot could be eliminated, and I’d be just fine with that.

  16. zumiee's avatar zumiee said, on June 25, 2025 at 1:11 pm

remember how the bizarros played baseball? They held the bat by the barrel and threw it down in disgust when they hit a ball over the fence for an out.

Per cbs Doval threw 15 sliders out of 21 pitches to 6 batters, 4 of whom reached base.

Got ahead 0-2 to first & third batters, but gave up walk and RBI single. Maddening.

    Stinkeroo by Camilo.

What a ClusterF of a game. Matt Williams is on a streak — of horrible judgment. But, the real story is the linguini hitting continues despite Devers. He’s probably wondering WTF did I fall into ? Now, Schmitt may be hurt just as he started feelin’ it …

I don’t know Chuck the Giants could be sober and still not hit!

And Ballgame and Schmitt probably has a broken hand but they still played him in the field, wtf? They are morons, you see him shaking his hand the whole inning?

3-5 on this homestand. At least Lnotos said sending Lee was stupid.

I just saw that Diego Seguí died. One of those names that stuck with me, like Rogelio Moret.
