Enjoy golf with SD, Flav. Always good to see him; yesterday was first for me since 2019 meet up at Oracle with you two Unc Snarkk and Zum (before game). That was also last time to see game live.
Hey bottom 3 in order got on base 6 times in 12 PAs scored 2 drove in 2 of 3. Let’s get top rolling.
Sounds like an amazing day.
I wonder if Stix has an air fryer…
He does it works on helicopters π
I just learned on the Yankee telecast that there’s a stat known as “Outs Above Average”…
Baseball Savant uses that for D ratings, + or -.
isn’t that one of the range metrics that correlated to Crawford’s log of nearly impossible plays for a few years?
Makes sense, Xoot – they showed it after defensive highlight clip of A’s CF, Denzel Clarke…
Lineup moves:
Koss (headphones) leading off
Lee hitting 7th
and Schmitt scratched according to Rubin.
Dave Parker gone at 74…
RIP. Loved that guy.
hope this is not paywalled. “In 2009, ten players in the [NBA] had fathers who’d played for NBA teams; this past season, there were thirty-five.”.
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2025/06/30/heir-ball-how-the-cost-of-youth-sports-is-changing-the-nba
Ah poor Lee got victimized by BABIP gods again. Crushed that one but robbed by Slater.
Vamos bringing the glove to end inning for Ray.
So sad to hear about Dave Parkerβs passing man he had swagger! Never forget the A/S game in 1979 he fielded a one hop single in R/F and it was medium deep atleast and threw on the fly to the plate to Gary Carter who put the tag on Downing? My jaw dropped on that play it was so cool π
Koss and Wisely setting the table.
And just like that…
Yes they did…
Speaking of BABIP, excellent NY Times article about the trevails of Lee. This is the “remove pay wall” version for folks that can’t access the Times:
https://archive.is/20250627220107/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6453908/2025/06/27/jung-hoo-lee-slump-hitting-profile/
“. . . Lee has been hitting like a sub-Mendoza line hitter over the last month, thatβs because he has been. Heβs been a contributor in the field and on the bases, but his slump is one of the biggest reasons the Giants are struggling to score runs. It might be the biggest reason.”
However, there is hope (as Willie alluded to above about “BABIP gods”). Per this NY Times writer, “Everything we know about batting average and balls in play suggests this is just a hiccup. The hits will start falling, and the world will make sense again. The good news is that Lee isnβt the kind of hitter who will hit like this for very long. The bad news is that heβsΒ exactlyΒ the kind of hitter who will have long stretches like this at some point.”Β
Are you fucking kidding me!
Pfffttt!
3rd base = Giants “Bermuda Triangle”
Jesus F****ing Christ Wisely picked off 3rd Iβm so sick of this shit!! I want heads to Roll starting with Williams,Burrell,Halleberg these 3 are pathetic!! 2nd and 3 rd no outs and they screw up another one with this base running shitshow ..
What exacerbates our situation is that we are such a shitty hitting team and to squander our few opportunities is so frustrating. Even crap teams like the Sox can potentially win with 1 (as they just did now) or 2 runs.
Devers swinging and missing against this lifetime mediocrity in that situation combined with yet another pickoff play against Wisely, who thought they were done with him after the unsuccessful attempt at second. The fucking horrors just keep piling on.
And now a Sox homer.
that baserunning gaffe outclasses even the giants
lol . . . How embarrassing for the Sox. Misses home plate. Too funny.
Well, flush that one. Get em tomorrow.
Thursday June 26 was birthday #88 for renowned bassist Reggie Workman.
A Giant among bassists.
True dat.
Cecil McBee has to be at least 90 and he’s still cooking with the Cookers. Besides a great player he’s a great guy. Got to chat some with him in 86 when he was playing with the Leaders.
Rough day in standings as NL WC teams Cards Pads and Brewers all won. Marlins beat AZ 8-7 and Dogs lost 9-5 to Royals.
I looked ahead and was thinking 5 wins vs Marlins and Chi Sox ( 2nd and 3rd worst teams in MLB coming in) was real and 4 wins was expected. Now We have a chance for only 1 win. Fucking Fuck.
This is probably a gross over-simplification of the situation, but Lee should be hitting leadoff. That’s how he started the year, and he was producing. He seems to like hitting leadoff. As his numbers increased, Melvin kept moving him down in the lineup (to drive in more runs? not sure), but the lower he’s gone in the lineup, the lower his numbers have gone (observationally speaking). We finally have a prototypical leadoff hitter. Just f-ing put him there and leave him there, for krissakes.
Poor Robbie Ray, he’s probably thinking he could be 15-0 on a team that can actually hit.
Ok, my Sunday morning rant is finished. I’m still very excited and optimistic about this team. They still have a lot of time to solidify things and stay in the WC hunt. Division looked doable for awhile there, but that’s probably not realistic.
Dave Parker homered off Scott Garrelts n the third inning of Game One of the ’89 WS. No recollection of that whatsoever…
Parker also homered off my HS baseball teammate pitcher Keith Comstock after he was part of the great trade that landed Kevin Mitchell.Yeah i brought it up to him at are class reunion (50th!)
He always wanted to be a Giant and wasnβt thrilled with the trade for sure.Said yep Parker owned him but I did strike him out once lol π
Friday night in Sacramento the RCs lit up Tyler Glasgow for 5 runs in 2 innings but he beaned Fitz who left game after 1 AB and missed last night too. Arrgh
“Schmitt scratched again”
https://x.com/shaynarubin/status/1939350591958036955?s=46&t=k0FDC_rVBvlG86Y-OHTiNQ
Not a good sign with Schmitt and this bone bruise, why waste a roster spot if he canβt play?
That’s the Giants way.
Or, there’s no one in AAA worth a plug nickel.
This year they made Randy Winn VP of player development, around 10 years ago he was the roving instructor for OFers and baserunning. I think Randy should get back to being a roving instructor or hire Kenny Lofton or someone to do it. These young guys coming in have their HR trots down, but their base running skills are nil.
I mentioned this about 1 month ago, trade for Luis Robert Jr. (whom is day to day and about to exit the 10 day IL). For the Giants, a trade for Luis Robert Jr. is a high-risk, high-reward move. If they believe their coaching staff and environment can help him return to his 2023 form, it’s a steal because his contract, with its team options, becomes incredibly team-friendly. If he continues to struggle, they’re on the hook for $15 million in 2025 plus a buyout, which is certainly a loss but not as devastating as a long-term, high-value commitment. Given their ongoing search for impact bats and outfield defense, it fits a team need, but I acknowledge the performance risk is substantial.
I am totally amazed at Buster’s ability to “think outside the box.” His last move for Devers was awesome. Robert Jr. possesses a rare five-tool skill set. His 2023 season showed his potential to be a true superstar (38 HRs, 20 SBs, Silver Slugger, All-Star). Likewise, Robert Jr. is an elite defender in center field. Yes, even better than Lee. I hope Buster is looking at Robert Jr.
Koss and Bailey get Giants on board as bottom of order comes through again
Koss is opening eyes.
Adames is closing themβ¦
Real nice Fuck yell by Yaz after he struck out on a pitch down the middle and of course Adames Kβd as well 2runners on yeah you bet STRANDED!!
Iβm telling you get rid of Burrell heβs just no good a coach.
Miss the combination of Donnie Ecker&Justin Vilue(sp) they got everything out of that old bore core players in 2021!
Koss getting it going again. Kid might be a keeper ..?
Koss at .261 is there 2nd best hitter in the LU to Ramos itβs crazy that Koss is their best hitter right now.Can every Giant rub Koss head and bat for any magic?
no estamos vamos.
Leasure suit didnβt want any part of Devers.
β¦ or Wilbur
Guess Leasure didnβt want any part of Flores either..
A run!
a gift, but weβll take it
And that’s all.
yep, bases corked, one out .. one gift run .. sheesh!
as Blade as pointed out itβs the same movie, over and over again .. and itβs facking boring as hell.
Lee is looking more lost at the plate with each passing day and has he descends in the line up
Boring baseball, but whatever works. Let’s go for the “Grandwalk” (4 consecutive walks)!
Best game pitched by far for Verlander this year.
Getting him a win would be monumental, but with no offense, can the BP get the final 9 outs? In this 2-1 snoozer π΄
So much for V getting a W.
Miller-Walker tag team gag job.
Yeah John, terrible luck. He deserves better.
Pfffttt! Close game nearly turning into a blowout.
arms are tired, bats are limp. This June is nearly as bad as 2014
nice balk. Jeezus.
Agree xoot. June swoon indeed!
Yeah Bozo and now ballgame 5-2 nice job by Walker getting lit up and hey letβs throw in a ball for a run! Verlander deserved better for sure as does the Starters.
Sheesh, this Sox pitcher is dangerous.
I sniff grand salami coming . . . Come on Ramos.
Hope your right Blade. WE lose because we still can’t buy a hit with runners on. Sad and confusing how Walker was so electric and one of the best closers in baseball last year and now he sucks;(
Fuck us…
Did you sniff a DP ball blade to kill another rally?
Where’s Nostraflavor when you need him?
We are 4-7 since Devers arrived not including today
Dominic would’ve made that play no trouble.
The Dbacks are licking their chops.
1.5 games back in the Wild Card.
Bullpen with a lead. Rodriquez, Rogers, Doval. Apparently not today:(
PS. A short sample size but Devers looks like Bailey whenever a pitcher throws a changeup. And has he always struck out this much? 14 K’s in 11 games. hitting .233 with OPS .745. It was .905 this year with Boston and hasn’t been below .850 in 6 years… We dragged him down!
1-5 vs 2 of 3 worst teams in MLB. Awful
Continued abysmal .170/.289/.321 with RISP over a 15-game span. I like what Paul said about Lee – leave him at lead off. At least he fucking hits the ball (BABIP). This bullshit of Ramos batting lead off and Devers 2nd smells like it passes the Zaidi sniff test, but wont get us any wins. Same deal with Adames batting 5th . . . He doesn’t deserve to bat 5th, put him further down with the Baileys, et. al.
1-5 against the bottom-feeders.
Mo-fucking-tel deep 6 has to decide on a lineup and stick with it. Yaz cleanup is a fucking joke. Yaz leading off is a fucking joke. Ramos leading off is a fucking joke.
Lee, Koss, Ramos, Devers, Adames, Flores, Yaz, Wisely, Bailey.
Fucking do it more than once.
Get Wisely out of there, and I’m agreeing with your lineup.
Adames’ shitty numbers at Oracle are actually a little better than his shitty numbers on the road, so I guess you can’t blame the park…
Fish sweep the DirtBags
“Lee is looking more lost at the plate with each passing day and as he descends in the line up”, yes BB, and Charlie and Steve criticizing the lineups too. I have decided that BoMel completely sucks as a manager just because of his stoopid lineup variations and illogical construction of putting hitters where they shouldn’t be. He seems to lack basic analytical skills in constructing the lineups and also lacks the “going with his gut” intuition that great managers possess. If I don’t see Lee leading off next game, I’m pulling out my BoMel voodoo doll.
The players on this team are better than they’re performing. Gotta blame someone, and it’s not the FO. Buster probably doesn’t want to blow up the manager and coaching staff, but at some point, he just might have to. Getting Chappie and Schmitt back will help. What happened to Johnson and Smith? I haven’t seen them playing much. They joined the team and it went out and won 7 straight. There probably are only so many shake-ups Buster can pull off. Hey, I’ll try it again, they’re slip slidin’ away. Every time we say that, they seem to bounce back. Need another bounce.
From someone on KNBR: “If they miss the playoffs, I think that’s a big failure. And then questions come into play about your manager and your coaching staff.” Uh… yes… but if they wait until they don’t make the playoffs to address those questions, it’s wayyyyy too late, dudes… Someone said they want to see a “playoffs or bust” mentality from the Giants, which most likely would require some bigger changes between now and then end of July, which suddenly is just a month away…
This was my exact beef with the Niners last season. Special teams and the defense were both horrible. It was obvious early in the season.
Both units sucked all year and it cost them at least 5-6 games.
FireBoMelNow!! Haha. Ok, that’s enough.
Only halfway through his deal and pre-Devers they were probably considered over-achievers. But something needs to change I guess. The next month leading to the deadline will decide that. Devers may just need a little more time to settle in and become a real difference maker. Adames is my biggest concern…
Agree about Devers, he’s not the problem, although he hasn’t done as much as we’d hoped he would. But he will. Adames, Bailey, a few others, just seem to have poor approaches to their at bats; they have talent, but WTF. Can a better coach help? These guys are veterans, they should be doing better.
yes, exactly Loo. WTF IS UP WITH ADAMES?? He has had 1/2 season to adjust to new team, and mates. Fucking earn your paycheck Bro! We ainβt paying for a cheerleader
Mets outscored 30-4 in Pittsburgh over the weekendπππ
What the hell happened to the Mets? Looked like they were going to run away as best team in the NL. This is a total collapse on their part.
