Enjoy golf with SD, Flav. Always good to see him; yesterday was first for me since 2019 meet up at Oracle with you two Unc Snarkk and Zum (before game). That was also last time to see game live.

Hey bottom 3 in order got on base 6 times in 12 PAs scored 2 drove in 2 of 3. Let’s get top rolling.

Speaking of BABIP, excellent NY Times article about the trevails of Lee. This is the “remove pay wall” version for folks that can’t access the Times:

    https://archive.is/20250627220107/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6453908/2025/06/27/jung-hoo-lee-slump-hitting-profile/

“. . . Lee has been hitting like a sub-Mendoza line hitter over the last month, that’s because he has been. He’s been a contributor in the field and on the bases, but his slump is one of the biggest reasons the Giants are struggling to score runs. It might be the biggest reason.”

However, there is hope (as Willie alluded to above about “BABIP gods”). Per this NY Times writer, “Everything we know about batting average and balls in play suggests this is just a hiccup. The hits will start falling, and the world will make sense again. The good news is that Lee isn’t the kind of hitter who will hit like this for very long. The bad news is that he’sΒ exactlyΒ the kind of hitter who will have long stretches like this at some point.”Β

What exacerbates our situation is that we are such a shitty hitting team and to squander our few opportunities is so frustrating. Even crap teams like the Sox can potentially win with 1 (as they just did now) or 2 runs.

  24. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 28, 2025 at 6:51 pm

This is probably a gross over-simplification of the situation, but Lee should be hitting leadoff. That’s how he started the year, and he was producing. He seems to like hitting leadoff. As his numbers increased, Melvin kept moving him down in the lineup (to drive in more runs? not sure), but the lower he’s gone in the lineup, the lower his numbers have gone (observationally speaking). We finally have a prototypical leadoff hitter. Just f-ing put him there and leave him there, for krissakes.

Poor Robbie Ray, he’s probably thinking he could be 15-0 on a team that can actually hit.

Ok, my Sunday morning rant is finished. I’m still very excited and optimistic about this team. They still have a lot of time to solidify things and stay in the WC hunt. Division looked doable for awhile there, but that’s probably not realistic.

This year they made Randy Winn VP of player development, around 10 years ago he was the roving instructor for OFers and baserunning. I think Randy should get back to being a roving instructor or hire Kenny Lofton or someone to do it. These young guys coming in have their HR trots down, but their base running skills are nil.

  31. blade3colorado's avatar blade3colorado said, on June 29, 2025 at 11:11 am

I mentioned this about 1 month ago, trade for Luis Robert Jr. (whom is day to day and about to exit the 10 day IL). For the Giants, a trade for Luis Robert Jr. is a high-risk, high-reward move. If they believe their coaching staff and environment can help him return to his 2023 form, it’s a steal because his contract, with its team options, becomes incredibly team-friendly. If he continues to struggle, they’re on the hook for $15 million in 2025 plus a buyout, which is certainly a loss but not as devastating as a long-term, high-value commitment. Given their ongoing search for impact bats and outfield defense, it fits a team need, but I acknowledge the performance risk is substantial.

I am totally amazed at Buster’s ability to “think outside the box.” His last move for Devers was awesome. Robert Jr. possesses a rare five-tool skill set. His 2023 season showed his potential to be a true superstar (38 HRs, 20 SBs, Silver Slugger, All-Star). Likewise, Robert Jr. is an elite defender in center field. Yes, even better than Lee. I hope Buster is looking at Robert Jr.

This bullshit of Ramos batting lead off and Devers 2nd smells like it passes the Zaidi sniff test, but wont get us any wins. Same deal with Adames batting 5th . . . “Lee is looking more lost at the plate with each passing day and as he descends in the line up”, yes BB, and Charlie and Steve criticizing the lineups too. I have decided that BoMel completely sucks as a manager just because of his stoopid lineup variations and illogical construction of putting hitters where they shouldn’t be. He seems to lack basic analytical skills in constructing the lineups and also lacks the “going with his gut” intuition that great managers possess. If I don’t see Lee leading off next game, I’m pulling out my BoMel voodoo doll.

The players on this team are better than they’re performing. Gotta blame someone, and it’s not the FO. Buster probably doesn’t want to blow up the manager and coaching staff, but at some point, he just might have to. Getting Chappie and Schmitt back will help. What happened to Johnson and Smith? I haven’t seen them playing much. They joined the team and it went out and won 7 straight. There probably are only so many shake-ups Buster can pull off. Hey, I’ll try it again, they’re slip slidin’ away. Every time we say that, they seem to bounce back. Need another bounce.

  65. Paul Sorensen's avatar Paul Sorensen said, on June 29, 2025 at 7:28 pm

From someone on KNBR: “If they miss the playoffs, I think that’s a big failure. And then questions come into play about your manager and your coaching staff.” Uh… yes… but if they wait until they don’t make the playoffs to address those questions, it’s wayyyyy too late, dudes… Someone said they want to see a “playoffs or bust” mentality from the Giants, which most likely would require some bigger changes between now and then end of July, which suddenly is just a month away…

Only halfway through his deal and pre-Devers they were probably considered over-achievers. But something needs to change I guess. The next month leading to the deadline will decide that.
