Thank God For Robbie Ray
If we’re gonna skewer Farhan for all his pointless moves we need to give him props for his good ones. Trading Haniger and Disco (who I don’t think are even in the league anymore) for Ray was brilliant. Fitting to celebrate his complete game on July 4th. Happy 4th you guys!
absolutely. But disco t bone pitched vs the Giants out of AZ’s pen just the other night. I noticed because his warm up music, Gimme Shelter, played loudly enough to cast a brief spell over the tv feed.
yes, I just saw he was signed by them a couple of weeks ago.
Stones at the peak of their powers…
Anyone here been to River Cats stadium, even before remodel?
Went about 15 years ago when they were the A’s affiliate. Nice little park when it isn’t 110 with major league beer/hotdog prices.
I spent the summer of 88 working in Sac. Most days in June over 100 in recorded history (to that point) iirc. The local newspaper posted daily headlines tracking the blessed event. Spent many evenings in AC’d environs watching Giants games on tv. Never made it to the minor league field.
I went a couple years ago. Going on Sunday after finding a couple of tickets that weren’t too pricey. Weather looking good so far, mid 80s projected around game time.
unseasonably temperate! Add the evening breeze from the coast and it should be nice. HR weather maybe.
James your 7:15 post from couple days ago about 3 SPs leading way got me thinking. who do you think third one behind Webb and Ray might be? Someone Giants acquire maybe?
We hold these truths to be self-evident…not all Major League Baseball teams are created equal. Just check teams’ respective payrolls.
As for our Giants, past four days, past month and first half of season accurate depiction of state of ballclub. Are Giants team that won 12 of first 16 games to start season? Or team that played .500 ball from mid-April thru end of May? Or team that won 7 straight in early June and hit high water mark of 12 games above .500? Or team that lost 7 of 8 at end of June? Are Giants team that looked hopelessly lost Monday and Tuesday in Arizona or team that won past two nights?
They’re all of the above. A better constructed roster than past couple years but still imperfect (I need to refrain from repeated references to Declaration of Independence). Buster’s two free agent acquisitions have been underwhelming though I believe Adames is coming around and will be solid contributor in 2nd half. Verlander not likely. And Buster deserves great credit for engineering Devers trade.
However, Melvin and coaching staff is source of frustration. Melvin’s use of bullpen frequently puzzling and head scratching. Williams 3B coaching abysmal- though players themselves also bear accountability for repeated base running gaffes reminiscent of Bad News Bears. Burrell must bear some responsibility as hitting coach for Giants mediocre offense at best and disastrous RISP hitting woes.
Starting pitching good to date but couple of starters NOT named Ray or Webb must step up in 2nd half to provide depth. Relief pitching an enigma. Rodriguez, Miller & Rogers solid but Walker & Doval maddeningly inconsistent.
In short, where Giants stand at end of September anybody’s guess. I wouldn’t be surprised if they snuck into wild card spot nor if they settled couple games above or below .500 and missed playoffs. But 2025 edition of Giants certainly more entertaining and watchable product than last 2-3 years of Farhan regime.
Not when they ain’t hitting.
per Grant Brisbee in TA yesterday, Giants pen has lowest ERA in baseball plus lowest BA and Lowest WHIP in NL. Under Melvin’s control.
fwiw Melvin admitted he had a “discussion” with the team after Tuesday game L. Baggs said, ” … Melvin aired out the team following Tuesday night’s loss ” Which resulted in better play as they got split.
many great versions of this masterpiece out there, including Dave Alvin’s collaboration with X. But this is my favorite. Happy forth! La lucha sigue.
Great version of the tune, with Flaco, David hidalgo and Max Baca. Perfect.
Giants are still hitting 11 points better with RISP than they are overall. The gap in OPS is 50 points.
Overall: 231 BA, 683 OPS
RISP: 242, 733 OPS
Those disparities between the cumulative hitting and RISP are pretty standard. MLB is hitting 242 overall, 251 wth RISP.
In other words, there’s nothing wrong with the Giants hitting that isn’t fully apparent by simply looking at their regular stats.
Giants have selected the contact of SS Sergio Alcântara from Sac Rivercats
to make room on the 40 man they DFA Catcher Logan Porter and optioned OF Daniel Johnson back to Rivercats.. Probably more for a depth piece since they wait for Chapman &Schmitt to get healthy..Those maybe Chappy is close to returning maybe in this series?
The NL RBI Leader is a guy I never heard of…
Suzuki? Good, solid player having a career year it seems. Last couple years he’s been a 30 2B 20HR guy. This year he’s already at 20 2Bs & 24 HRs.
the tax bill that just passed apparently includes provisions that increase levies on gambling income. First I’ve heard of it.
only able to deduct 90% of losses now? Something like that.
Twice this week, I have heard Ryan O’Hearn’s name mentioned as a good trade candidate this week: Sports Illustrated and ESPN . . .

Get ‘er done Buster!
said it here a month ago.
Go Giants. Hopefully our swoon is behind us and we won’t play down to the competition. 2/3 a must!
Matos has become something of a non-entity at this point…
I don’t think “Verlander” is the answer to your question, Willie.
Anyone want to defend signing old man Verlander. What a useless pickup
the crowd thinks this is comic baseball. Ha. Just wait until the Giants get a good chance to run the bases.
Maybe AAA River Cats should have played tonight
Verlanderham strikes again.
WTF? Black is back?
Oh my. Verlander needs to go. Whisenhunt can get some starts.
